  1. Lol....this guy is funny..."you don't need tons of training...." Dude, seriously ?? Even the great Lance Armstrong tweeted the the other day that he had the highest respect for guys who did the epic....
  2. Hi fellow cyclists, Not sure how many of you have struggled with a "mental block" when it came to training and just cycling in general. Im struggling to get my head "right" and focused on what it is i need to do to get back on my bike and start training... Any "mind bending" tips...???
  3. Awesome race!!! thanks to all the organisers and everybody involved. Took my kids with and they too had a wonderful time. I like the fact that you can take the whole family and there is something (race wise) to do for everybody...my kids are so impressed with their medals, i think its awsome that they all get some kind of recognition...
  4. Wow...how i wish i was living in CT right now...that is dirt cheap!!! thanks for the advise anyways...
  5. I think its the top tube...if i pick up my front wheel and i swing the handle bar from one side to the other, it feels stiff, resistent...
  6. My Spokie...love her to bits!!!
  7. Im not sure though. I have never even touched the headset and neither has anybody else, i only picked up on this this morning, it was perfect on monday when i went for a ride and its been perfect every time before that...stange...
  8. Hi Hubbers, I need some advise, my steering feels stiff and i dont know why. when i pick the front of the bike up and swing the handle bar from side to side, it moves with effort (not sure if this is making sense...) I think that the top tube is dirty perhaps but not 100% sure. If so, how do i clean it? do i have to take it all appart and clean or would a simple wash do the trick? i do wash my bike after every ride so im not sure what it could be... Please help...
  9. Ok, here are some specifics... I broke my clavical bone (collar bone) three years ago. i broke it in such a way that they had to operate on it an insert a plate onto the bone to get it back together and to heal. I know the plate is suppose to come out after a year but i have been putting it off and feel its time to take it out. Like i said, i dont wish to go back to any of the two other surgeons and would feel more comfortable with someone who perhaps specilizes in Cycling / Sport injuries...
  10. Bru, operating procedures specifically relating to cycling injuries... I have been to two othropedic sergeons before whoi was refferd to. I was not happy with them and i dont wish to go back to any of the two. I just think that someone who perhaps is a cyclist or specializes in sports injuries, and a surgeon would perhaps better understand those kinds of injuries and would better know how to sort them out...
  11. good plan, thanks for that but at this point in time i dont have much time for anything related to the Blue Bulls...ill wait up and till they start winning again...hehehe...
  12. Oops, sorry forgot to make that clear, i'm in need of a Orthopedic sergeon
  13. Hi Hubbers, I need some info and advise from my fellow cycling community members. I am looking for a great competent surgeon who is familiar with cycling injuries and operating procedures. I am pretoria based and would like to make use of some one in PTA or Centurion. Any suggestions?
  14. I am just baffeled still that these bike shop owners dont see the bigger picture. Why are'nt these guys investing in their staff and their skills. Im sure these guys make money on new bike sales but surely they need to understand that there is a lot more sustainability in giving people good services on their bikes. We all know things break especially on mountain bikes because they tend to ride on rougher terain... Come on bike shop owners, bring it on...drive away all your clientele by giving all of us shitty and pathetic services. Nothing a manual cant fix.....
  15. Wow, must say the support for DIY is amazing and i think i am going to give it a go... Thanks for the advise you guys have given, im sure we will be chatting more often...especially if i cant remeber what goes where, hehehe....
  16. I recelntly sent in my bike for a service at what i thought to be a reliable bike shop. I was quoted on a standard service and specifically asked that if they find anything else that needs attention, they call me first and check if they can do it. Obviously i also want know what this extra repair would cost before i commit myself to it. Needless to say, not only was i not contacted BUT stuff i never asked for were repaired and i had to at the end of the day pay for it in order to get my bike back because if they did not fix it, my bike would have broken into 50 pieces the next time i went for a ride..... Today a friend of mine phoned me with a similar story, not only did a standard bike service set him back R1600 but when he was quoted initially, the price he was quoted EXCLUDED vat...this offcourse sent the charge sky high once vat was added. Now, here are my questions and comments: 1. If i had to teach myself to service my own bike, how would that impact on the warranty that comes with most of the components. 2. How can bike shops just get away with not being upfront when it comes to the actual price you are going to pay at the end of the day and how does one put an end to it because it happens at MANY bike shops... 3. Surely i would be saving a fortune because at the end of the day i will only be paying for the parts i need and WANT to replace at that given time. 4. Where can one find the best and most accurate tips on servising bikes and components. Im tired of being taken for a "ride" NO MORE !!!!
  17. JUST WANNA LET YOU KNOW...I HAVEN'T SEEN IT OR FOUND IT YET... WILL KEEP LOOKING THOUGH

  23. I agree these methods sound insane but you have to give credit to this guys reputation...somehow i think he knows what he's talking about...I guess it comes down to one question: How fit do you want to be... here is some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Vaughters
