  1. - The expert is carbon right? I think it's quite a jump in range of bike from the comp. Isn't the comp the bottom range Epic? Would love an S-Works, but holy cow on price
  2. Thanks Popeye. To put things into perspective; I'll only be forking out around R18k for this bike - brand new
  3. Thanks guys! Really appreciating all the comments
  4. Thanks Santa
  5. Hey Hubbers. I want some assistance in deciding whether this bike is for me. I am 6foot 3. Weigh +- 80kgs. I have currently been riding since last July on a Commencal Meta 5.5 ('07) that I got second hand. Loved the bike, but just finding it heavy for the riding I have ended up doing - mostly XC type stuff. I ride the Spruit a lot as well as Northern Farm and Teak Place. Have also done Breedts Nek and some other places. The Commencal is bomb proof, but at 15.3kgs it's a beast to climb with. Please give me your thoughts on the Specialized Epic Comp 2010. As I have a great opportunity to get one. Thanks in advance! The model I am talking about is the '09 -'10 model. Specs: Fork: Fox F100 RL Shock: Fox/SBC remote Mini-Brain Shifters: SRAM X-7, aluminum trigger Brakes: Custom Avid Elixir R SL F/D: Shimano M660 SLX R/D: SRAM X-9, 9-speed, mid cage Crank: Custom Shimano FC-M542 Wheels: Custom DT Swiss X420SL Things I've heard - Avid brakes aren't great. Neither are the custom DT Swiss wheels (lower quality). What are you're thoughts around the brain system? How best do you set it? Any comments will be greatly appreciated!
  6. If you would take your bike to be serviced at Solomons in Woodmead over a store like Dunkeld Cycles, then your opinion is void
  7. The whole experience at DC is awesome. The guys give a service that's more personal than any other LBS I know. Not slating other LBS's out there. Just love mine!
  8. I must say that I have been VERY happy at Dunkeld Cycles. They give great service and the mechanics know their stuff. Check out their new website - www.dunkeldcycles.co.za
  9. Hey Hubbers. I'm looking into getting a gps heart rate monitor from the states and was wondering if anyone knows what I should be expecting, , to pay in duties. Shot!
  10. Ok, this rant has me on either side of the fence. It gripes me when anyone delivers bad service, but I use Dunkeld and have never had an issue with them. I bought a second hand Commencal Meta 5.5 MTB that needed some TLC and after I got it back (with a 2 new chain rings, a chain, cassette, BB and a full service including shock and fork - at R2200) it felt like new and has been a dream since then (July). Ok given I look after my bike really well and clean it after every ride. Even when my shifting was a bit out, I rode in and they sorted it right then and there at NO cost. I understand that you have given them a second chance to redeem the error, but I honesty feel that if you take the bike in and have a chat with either Mark, Merlyn or Aidan they will sort it out for you. I don't think it's fair for one bad experience to be used to discredit any store or business. No Co can deliver top class ALL the time and in hearing most of the replies, most people have had great service from Dunkeld My issue with your rant, andyr249, is that you expect a bunch of guys who run a LBS to be online all the time and get back to you in your timing of urgency. If you are wanting information and wanting it NOW, then pick up the phone. I have been in Dunkeld a LOT and they ALWAYS answer the phone when it rings... Just saying. They aren't an online help desk waiting to respond to every email that comes in. The fact is, it's less work for you to pop off an email than dial their number (which is 011 - 341 0627 by the way) and have to actually SPEAK to someone...
  11. How about this boys? https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/86885-raleigh-nomad-mtb-r2500/page__p__1188846__fromsearch__1#entry1188846 2.5k?! Seems like a good deal
  12. Lol! Yeah, first thing I noticed. Asked him if he was deformed haha! It was from the accident. Hasn't touched it since as has pretty much been in and out of hospital since... Any recommends on other bikes? Any steals you know of???
  13. Wow, no wonder I couldn't find info on a 2005 fuel ex 9.0 that looked right. Thanks for this. Maybe he assumed? I'll ask him...
  14. Ok - so the story is, he is a mate of my CEO. Couple months ago fell at Emmarentia and ended up in ICU for 2.5 weeks. Broken ribs, collar bone, collapsed lung - HARD CORE. Now getting out of MTB'ing So know he's not a dodgey guy at all
  15. Well, as stated, it's a gift for a mate. So not keen to spend more than 4k at the most... Specs wise, the bike looks fairly decent. Reckon the fork isn't too bad???
  16. Apparently both shocks have been serviced in the last year... It may just be dirty?
  17. He was asking 7k, but i've got him down to 3.6k... I know it's old. I own a Commencal meta 5.5 - this bike is a gift for a good mate (want to get him into the sport)
  18. It’s a trek Fuel 9.0 SLR (super light racing) 2005 model Aliminum Size: 21 inch (Large) Rims: Bontager Superstock Tyres: Brand new maxxis cross mark Rear Shock: Fox Foat racing Front Shock: Manitou elite Shifters: Shimano LX Deore Rear DR: Shimano XT Front DR: Shimano LX Avid Cantilever Brakes SPD pedals Cateye comp Thanks in advance for your input Hubbers!
  19. That's awful news Bongo! Sorry bud. We shouldn't have to lock our bikes up inside OUR OWN GARAGES! Grrrrrr! Pisses me off. Will have my eyes and ears peeled online mate
  20. I've heard cycle lab is hellish expensive... Maybe an LBS isnt necessarily what I need. Need to stock up on energy drinks and gels, etc...
  21. Afternoon Hubbers. Hope you are ALL getting ready for an awesome weekend. Hopefully with loads of riding I live in Hyde Park, just around the corner from Dunkeld cycles. I had my bike serviced with them just after I bought it second hand. Their service seems pretty good, but they do seem rather pricey. Does anyone have any advice on which LBS I should be going to? Thanks!
  22. Doing Breedts Nek tomorrow with the boys, off sat for the rugga (Go Lions) and then a 50-60km spruit/Northern Farm ride Sunday am
  23. These guys rock my world! I'm looking for a camelback aurora for my lady and they don't have the colour I'm looking for (light blue). So I mail Christof (sales) and ask if they don't perhaps have any lying around. he comes back to say they will order me one and let me know as soon as it is available. WHAT SERVICE!!!! CHAMPS I TELL YOU... CHAMPS!
  24. The Giant is oooooold! Think a '97/'98 model. Have heard good things about them though. The Merida is my choice, but want to get a feel from more experienced riders and hubbers. Hey, he is a mate, can't afford a bike at the moment. I want to share the awesomeness that is MTBing with the guy - hence a bike as a gift Found this: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/80482-silverback-nebraska/page__gopid__1153285#entry1153285 But quite steep for me to spend alone. May look at getting some "input" from other guys I know. Is that a decent price? Don't really know silverbacks
