  1. If I understand correctly, the Vida frame is actually made by Merida....
  2. What an amazing race, we missed the bush fire by only minutes before it jumped. Stage 1 and hilltop was a breeze, Stage 2 was more challenging with boulders but we managed fine and then the last 20km of the 3rd stage just drained us completely.....manage to ride the time we aimed for though with 5 minutes to spare . Organisation, food, vibe and route was great! Will be back next year....
  3. What is the total elevation/ascent of the jock over the total distance or per stage?
  4. Absolutely rubbish tyres, I had a race king and mountain king, after 600km the mountain kings knobbly's started to fall off and the race king got a 3cm diameter bubble in it. Really useless but expensive tyres, will never buy them again!!!
  5. Just over 300km/week. Will train until Thursday and then start to slow down....
  6. I disagree with you and I think this graph is actually very nicely laid out. Cost per kilo is the only constant whereas cost per hour means absolute nothing as everyone's riding time will differ but they will receive the same support, number of water points, goodie bags, breakfast, lunches & dinners etc which is the cost that the organiser must spend on each rider, almost like cost to company is now cost to rider. So looking at the graph if you don't have a million dollars means that the Garden route & Cape Pioneer you get the most bang for your bucks. You also know that how hard you must train for the W2W if you've done the Sani as the climbs are more or less the same but you know that you must train a bit harder for the Garden route. It's not reducing a person's life down to a set of numbers but rather comparing apples with apples on a financial & fitness level however MTB'ing will remain an experience on its own with each stage race, I agree.Everybody complains that the Sani and Epic is over-commercialized and therefore very expensive, now you can actually see that with the graphs confirming the arguement. Another thing is that paying R22/km or R30/km on a bicycle you must pedal on your own is much more that any car you drive and that excludes your wear and tear on the bike. Thanks Janneman, I think your effort and thought into this is very valuable.
  7. My brother who don't believe in tubeless, 2x on the one day and 1x on the next ride....
  8. We decided to stay in the area from the 23rd and then going straight from there to the Argus. Nice 2 week recovery/holiday. The Buffels bay caravan park is rated one of the best caravan parks in the country if someone is interested.....
  9. Hi Chain-L We entered for the GR300 2012 and it's R4,800/team as per my invoice so R2,400 is correct(what a bargain!), they've also sent us 3 emails with the *NEW* updated routes for each day which is a bit longer and more climbs totaling between 295 and 300km against last years route which was about 260km I think....? The GR doesn't include accommodation but does include 3 meals/day which is the same as the rest but good point. So I think Janneman's info is quite accurate on this one....
  10. The cost per km is quite interesting. The Garden route seems to be the best value for money of the 3 day stage races and then the Pioneer of the multi-day stage races.... Janneman, this is a very cool comparison, thanks a mill!
  11. I can't remember but one of the Sani2C days, either the first or second has like 75km+ singletrack. Really awesome!
  12. Same route as well?
  13. Updated route info, its getting a bit worse..... Garden Route day 1 and 2 has been confirmed, Day 1 99km (1950m vertical climbing) Day 2 now 115km (2100m vertical climbing) and now waiting for day 3's confirmation.....much more than we anticipated :S
  14. We're also doing the GR300 for the first time & I see where Jaxtun comes from, according to the website: Day 1: 95km & 1950m ascent Day 2: 105km & 1980m ascent Day 3: 75km & 1650m ascent We only started training January but did the W2W the end of last year, currently we're just aiming for hours in the seat so we do about 14-16hours per week and anything from 60km - 100km per day(Saturday club rides, Sundays, Tuesdays & Thursdays) . We stay in Pretoria so the max we can get is also 1000m ascent per day...
  15. It's called Frank.Net and that's exactly what the are doing, they're Frank about the truth. Good marketing campaign though!
  16. Yes, I was just busy replying. Must be a 94.7 insider who deleted it??? However, I agree with your statements!
  17. They take very good photos, then they need to tag each photo eg with the Argus, Sani, upload them etc. I will pay it with a smile.
  18. Have anyone tried to tell the guy that you will pick it the bike in person from him and pay him cash?
  19. Sien julle daar, daars ook n lekker pub op die buffelsbaai pad oppad knysna toe, riverside cafe.
  20. We're going to Ballito soon, where is this exactly?
  21. Hi, try Buffelsbaai karavaan park. Dis so 20minute se ry van Knysna af en een van die mooiste in die land. Net buite buffelsbaai is daar ook Buffelspoort karavaan park. PM my as jy vashaak.
  22. 1.75 and 88kgs, good climber and no problem with the decents. Matric weight 13 years ago as a short distance athlete was 85kgs, so 3 more to go then Im happy.
  23. Same problem here, done the Argus 5 times but a while back, also not seeded properly yet(only after the ride 4 sights seeding). Perhaps @Bontie or @hannes will know.....
  24. How do you know the weighting of each race or does PPA calculate it after each race? Is it published somewhere?
