  1. Normally ride with a partner/group on long rides, but must admit I've been enjoying these long rides on a Saturday alone allot.

Don't know if I will tackle a solo road ride to Cullinan/Harties and back, or a solo MTB ride out to Nkwe and back, that seems a bit dodgy.

But a 3.5hour ride is really fun, just you and the bike and your thoughts.

I realized your long rides can't be dependent on someone else's motivation to go and ride.

  2. Anthem X29.

It's designed to be a long ride cruiser, designed for all day riding and stage races.

Lockout isn't necessary on climbs, the RP2/23 doesn't have a lockout feature, only "Pro Pedal" mode.

I leave my RP23 in pro pedal mode all the time.

The front fork has a through axle. (Not too sure about the 2013 models, but I would assume so)

Maestro suspension makes use of sealed bearings, and is low maintenance. Maintenance is mostly dependent on riding conditions.

I think in your case, I wouldn't worry too much about servicing the maestro suspension system often.

Keep in mind that there is lots of bearings used in this suspension design and that replacing them will get a bit expensive.

Buying bearings and doing a DIY job will cost you around R600.

    Hope this helps.

My Anthem is the best bike I've ever owned.

  3. IDT is perfect for a structured interval program to use throughout the week.

When training properly I'm between 3 and 5 times in the work week on my IDT and do my LSD/ Hill repeats/heavy rides over the weekend.

Nothing beats good 90min interval sessions used right and structured with incremental added workloads and resting weeks.

Also want to mention that it only starts to really transfer to real world riding after 6 weeks assuming you have a decent base fitness.

So if you know how to use it, you can get allot done in relatively little time over the week.

Starting to train again this year for Sabie I realized how hard intervals are at the beginning, but after the first week you break through, the workload gets harder but the perceived effort isn't proportionally the same.

Also a great way to focus on pedaling technique and isolating problems and practicing them.

  4. The right bike is the one you ride 4 times a week

The one you do all your suffering on.

The one you do all your races on.

The one that you smile at when you open your garage.

The one you take extra special care of when loading it up.

The one you thank for getting you to the finish when your legs gave up.

The one you want to buy an upgrade for - not cause it needs it - just because you love it that much.

The one with your butt imprint in the saddle.

that is the right bike for Epic!

Ah! So you are saying I have to stick with my EMD9 race build after I just bought myself a Anthem X29? Not for the epic though but for stage racing and marathons.

  5. I will be leaving the house on the road bike with a heavy heart on my way to Magnolia tomorrow morning.

Will be joining the guys there, then off to see family on bike and then heading home. Don't think a training ride is in order for tomorrow.

    Dre, see you hopefully tomorrow.

Hopelik gaan daar baie mense wees...

  6. Oddly the Aspen survived 3 months in which time i killed 3 ikon exc3/abc4/xo (or what ever all the bloody decals are) but the only aspen's i can get here are the normal foldable ones and i am tired of buying new rubber. Didnt like the Racing ralphs or rocket rons, they just seem'ed to washout or lock up too often. I now run the X-kings front and rear and i am very happy. Have to say if I get a UST Aspen ill fit it again, that thing rolls like a slick and corners like its on rails.

I would assume an Aspen on the front will last allot longer than one on the back.
