  1. how would i monitor my energy consumption? Counting calories?
  2. Thanks to everyone for your responses, so the just of it is that you need to eat less energy than you using. So will this teach your body to use the fat as energy on your ride instead of using sugar and carbs?
  3. Thank you , would you elaborate more on how to tell what each zone is?
  4. Hello everyone, I know the new thing is to now use body fat as energy instead of eating carbs for energy. I'm just wondering what are ways to burn fat while riding that have actually been tried by people and they can vouch for it working. I've heard one way is to excercise on an empty stomach. I know I can google this question but I want something that people can say it actually works. Please tell me what you do and what works for you.
  5. True that. Some of these websites have an export to excel spreadsheet option so it's a lot faster than sitting yourself and putting the numbers in.
  6. Thanks Yes thank you that would be great. I'm cycling after many years of taking off so I'm in the process of learning where to go on the trails. Does the entire forrest/plantation up Curries post and karkloof belong to karkloof club?
  7. I know this is 5 years old, do we still ask you about the trails?
  8. I know this is an old post, have you found a trail or club? You tried the karkloof club?
  9. Thanks, I kind of meant which website do you use for the coupons? There so many fake coupons out there.
  10. Have you tried any of them? How do they work for you? ah thank you I'll give them a try Thanks , i'm going to try that. There are a lot of stuff there that I don't understand and others that I need an external monitor for. Thanks, that's actually a really good idea especially if you not home. I had a quick look at training peaks, where do you get the coupons? I like how you can find a coach there.
  11. ag no man!!! Maybe the organizers didn't get the memo. On another note i'm so happy when i still see stickers on cars showing cars passing 1.5m from the cyclist. I don't see them much anymore but they still around,
  12. Thank you for your valued input, like my post says i'm already on strava, i'm looking for others.
  13. I think if everyone just obeyed the rules of the road it would be fine. A lot of cyclists refuse to ride in a single file, a lot of motorists try their best to drive as close as possible to a cyclist. I think the biggest problem is cars turning right infront of a cyclist making him/her swerve not to get hit. If everyone had respect for everyone else we wouldn't have a problem.
  14. Hi everyone, I'm looking at training apps and software to monitor your progress. I see many people use strava, GC, TP and Garmin. Are there any others i should have a look at? My goal is to see my progress as I become more fit. I have a basic gps cycling computer that syncs with strava and it shows time, speed, distance etc. Can you name some that have worked for you?
  15. thank you , i will definitely have a look.
  16. Thanks for the info , what is TP and GC?
  17. Things i've learnt from commuting for 12 years (i rode to school and rode to work and then rode to the shops and everywhere else) Positive: Find the joy of riding up a long hill that you know you will ride down later. Life is like an uphill climb on your bicycle No matter how many times you pedal, if you in a very low gear by accident you not going to go anywhere very fast There's nothing quite like riding down a long downhill with the wind in your hair and knowing you just hit 81km/hr Changing from a mountain bike to a road bike increases your speed immensely. There are some people who will pay you to repair the bike when they drive into you and bend your back wheel Not so positive Drivers in cars don't care about you and will drive as close as they can to you Always carry a spare tube with pump and tyre levers, also carry a puncture kit. Pedestrians will walk into you and still blame you even though they in the wrong Cars hoot at you just for fun, they also hoot to see you get a huge fright. You need to carry basic tools with you incase you need to adjust a cable or a brake pad You will need to fix the bike quite often and you'll realize it is cheaper just to walk
  18. This is probably the best setup i've ever seen , how much did it cost?
  19. Thanks, you said that you have everything synced in one place? Are you talking about Strava or somehow syncing all the apps together? that's what i'm doing at the moment, it takes a little extra time and the times of the ride don't come out perfectly but it's a great place to map out your ride.
  20. That's great to hear, can you please share how you did that? P.S. strava won't run on my huawei phone because it needs google to run. I'm going to have to export somehow and import into strava on pc
  21. Hi all I've always wanted to join vitality but i see the benefits from 2014 have changed now? Is it possible to still get up to 50% of your start up fee back? Also people are accumulating so many points but what can you use the points on? I think to join it's about two hundred and something rand per month but is it worth it?
  22. Hi everyone, I was wondering who's on strava and if we can add each other? We can share our routes with each other and it's a good motivation when we give your ride a thumbs up. What does everythign think?
