  1. definitely an area being targeted by criminals.
  2. A Cyclist was hijacked in the Cape Point area this morning, probably around 7am. She said it happened close to the Cape Point Ostrich farm, but also said she saw the car head off up Red Hill. Therefore I think the attack happened closer to the Red Hill Y-Junction. 2 coloured males (her description, not mine) in a new shape, white Audi Station Wagon robbed her of her bike and phone. She called into Cape Talk this morning, that's how I heard about this. Already posted on my Facebook and Twitter page. The road from Smitswinkel to Scarborough is not safe! The out of town guys need to know this. Especially early in the morning is when most attacks have occurred. There have been about 5 this year? Speaking under correction. There was even an incident on the Red Hill road where cyclists were stoned riding past the informal settlement. Don't ride alone and try and get to this area a little later, if you can. When the tourists are on the road to Cape Point it should be safer to ride there. Be vigilant and keep a lookout behind you and for vehicles parked on the side of the road. As you can see from the incident this morning, it's not necessarily and old clapped out vehicle that you need to look out for. Stealing bikes is clearly a lucrative pastime for some! By the way. The Table Mountain tracks are safe with no incidents reported off the tar roads for well over a year now. Lots of snake sightings in Tokai, so be careful. We expect the usual spike in crime over the festive period, so be extra vigilant wherever you ride your bike. Consider downloading the free MySOS App to use in case of any emergency. Saves you having to find numbers to call as the App gives you the relevant numbers based on your location (in the country). Stay safe and Happy Holidays.
  3. Cathsseta is a government entity. I think a government or municipal entity should not be sponsoring commercial events. There are more pressing issues that need financial intervention. Logistics of this event must be "tiny" compared to overseas road events and be easily affordable for the big financial institutions. They fall all over themselves to sponsor mtb events, but seem allergic to getting behind road events. What is CSA doing about this? Is it not in their interest to keep the event alive? Cape Minstrels got R25Million of Lotto money last week. Just saying.
  4. I don't see the point of a powermeter on a mountain bike. With such variable terrain and so many short accelerations , what's the use of knowing your wattage output? Great for road bikes, but seems to me like a waste of money for off-road.
  5. Love the 10mbit fibre optic line we just got installed at the office. Full HD with no more buffering!
  6. Remember that PPA members were allowed to enter a week and a bit ago. That would have taken away a chunk of entries already.
  7. In case any of you are interested in attending. When: Wednesday, 17 September 2014 Where: Canal Walk Auditorium (in the shopping centre) Time: 17:30 for 18:30. Light snacks are being served at Primi Piatti (near Woolworths). Park near Entrance 5 for quickest access. You get a paid parking ticket at registration. You have the opportunity to put questions to the Exco as well as vote for PPA Exco candidates. Only paid up members can vote though. Some current Exco members are standing for re-election and there is one new candidate standing as well. Her name is Liezel vd Westhuizen and she is keen to get involved at Exco level. You may know her from KFm or TV. She has turned into a keen cyclist and her public profile won't hurt the PPA cause. Come to the AGM and hear about what Pedal Power has been up to over the last 12 months.
  8. Lekker! Last night, 20 of us came down the trail as another group of 12 waited at the bottom to ride up.
  9. The trail upgrade is finished and the trail is open. We will monitor the condition over the next week or so and see how it goes. Pictures are one thing. Go and ride it and let everyone know what you think.
  10. Email my wife: melaniev@axxess.co.za We live in the CBD and she is a Physio specialising in sports injuries and sports massage.
  11. In a nutshell: riders complained about the condition of the trail to San Parks. San Parks contacted TMB and I put forward a proposal of how the trail can be made user friendly. My proposal was accepted by San Parks and I got a quote from Ace of Spades for the work. Monday they moved in for 3 days worth of work which will be completed in about half an hour's time.Pretty simple really once permissions are given. TMB will maintain the trail, but I am sure San Parks will provide assistance if asked.
  12. I was on site half an hour ago and the team is busy working on the top and middle parts of the trail. There are small berms going in at the top of the trail as well and a new track has been cut just after the bridge when you're coming down. I blocked off a trail leading off to the left after the bridge. Please leave it this way. At the bottom of the "new" ST, there is a fork going right to the lower ST and a fork turning left towards the tar road. If you use the blocked off path, you miss out on the berms at the bottom. Bennet will be done this afternoon, then it's over to us to keep the trail in good shape. As for the loss of technicality by upgrading the trail, I respectfully disagree. With an overall "smoother" trail, there are still one or two rocky sections , plus you still have to ride up the hill. Why not see how fast you can do it? On the way down. Practice your cornering, try holding your speed let the bike flow. Also, see that you don't use your brakes in the corner, but rather before you enter it. If we can look after this trail and stick to the agreement with San Parks, there is no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to do this again somewhere else in the near future. I am thinking Deer Park, for instance.
