  3. Weather looks dry with a bit of wind. Will go out.
  4. Was looking at a Night Ride on Friday to coincide with the Moonlight Mass at 9pm. Windguru is telling me to stay indoors, but will monitor the weather.
  5. Hey Doc! Well, done on the Trans. Too much pt for me this time. I'd like to see you push a 42/26 at the Pioneer. I'm not as strong as you.
  6. Schwalbe's, whether Snakeskin or not are fine to run tubeless. Have not had issues. I run them at 1,8 bar. Maybe you haven't used enough liquid? 50ml per tyre should be enough. Did you seat the tyre properly before riding? Pump it up to 3 bar or more until you hear the loud popping noise or noises? There is a thin rubber line on the tyre wall that should run parallel to your rim, it shows you whether the tyre is seated properly.
  7. Thanks for the Q Ring guide. I guess I tried to ride as per usual and my legs took a beating. At some points I was flying up the hills, but taking a hammering later on in the ride. I have now done 85km of off-road riding and will do the last 120km at an easier pace. Interesting to read the difference between road and mountain bike adaptation distances. 500km to 200km. So it is true. Every 1km on the dirt is equal to 2,5km on the road.
  8. Tested the Q Rings properly on an 85km ride (1475m ascent) from Grabouw to Greyton yesterday. 40/27 Q Rings vs my 39/26 XX rings, I must say that I felt it in the legs. Either the elliptical shape and the "new" pedalling dynamic or the 1 extra tooth, or both. We rode a solid 21km/h average and the route included th climb up to the Nek above Lebanon village and one 5km climb on a dirt road with a strong side/headwind. Now the question begs: ditch and go back to round or persevere and get stronger?
  9. +1 Look at Flo Jo. She set a world record they won't beat for a long time. But, she died young and we can pretty much work out why.
  10. Agree with Iron on this one. Lance got all the glory standing on the podium and then raked in the endorsement $ after that. So let them come and take his trophy cabinet away. With all the cash he made, he'll fill the gap with an expensive sculpture of piece of furniture. Where's the punishment in telling a guy now that he never won 7 Tour titles? Scratch his name off the trophy, what does that achieve? We all saw him win on TV and he was idolised for it. You want to punish the guy! Make him as poor as he would have been had he never won any of the titles they want to strip him of now. That will hurt more than taking a trophy away.
  11. ok. corner Ivy and Kloof Street
  12. I leave at 5. Can you make it?
  13. If you're keen to ride, contact me on ride@tablemountainbikers.co.za I am organising a group ride on the 2.9. at Deer Park. Come along and you'll meet riders of all levels. Plus, you can join the TMB club
  14. I will be riding for sure.
  15. Crap, and I thought could attach the rings and get going. Good thing I organised a cable and derailleur session for 6 of us with a great mechanic on Saturday morning.
  16. Sorry, i made an error with the day. the meeting is tonight.
  17. Bought a set of second hand 40/27 Q Rings from a fellow Hubber yesterday. I'll stick them on my XX Crank which is on the Air Carbon. Doing a ride from Grabouw to Greyton on Sunday, that should give me enough time to get used to them and evaluate. If I like the Q Ring, I will probably go one smaller, because I spend more time climbing than I do on the flat roads.
  18. Do you need a longer chain for the Rings?
  19. I am 89kg and have ridden a Pioneer and Epic back to back on the same set of Crest's . Plus plenty training and other races in between. Crest's are light and strong.
  20. This year I rode a Full Sus and my partner a HT. He was fine all the way. Don't over spend on the bike, your Silverback sounds more than adequate. If I may hijack the Thread at this point: I am doing Epic again in 2013 and therefore my wife will come along to do Massage. She is a Physio of 20 years experience and worked for 4 teams this year and she plans to do the same again. Everyone was really impressed and happy with her knowledge and ability. So if you want to book a team slot with her, this is a chance to spend some money wisely for the Epic.
  21. Thanks Andro. I had actually spoken to Mr Stander last year about Rotor cranks, but was put off by the price and went for an XX rig instead. I would however like to try the Q Rings on the XX crank and see what it feels like. Buying new just to try is not what i want to do so I am looking for a second hand set. 40/27 or 38/26.
  22. Niner Air 9 Carbon frame, brand new, box was sealed. R 10k.
  23. I want to go 56km/h uphill. i have been eying the Rotor cranks , but just got the XTR a month ago. Would the Q rings fit either XX or XTR? Would dig to give them a try if anyone has some second hand ones.
  24. Skins "Pro Bib" or "C400 Bib".
  25. I felt I had to ask. I think I'll move the XTR crank over to the Carbon bike . Probably leg fatigue, a slight cold and the terrain yesterday made it feel so hard to turn the crank over yesterday.
