  1. Personally, I would find it quite hard to offer him a job. Especially one which requires a certain measure of responsibility. Perhaps he'll become a Nutrition rep? Or sell spares at the LBS.
  2. What old DG did is like white collar crime in the workplace. Perhaps it should be referred to as "bib short crime"? I hope for his family's sake he is either a trust fund kid, has a rich wife or has a nest egg stashed somewhere in a tax haven. I can't imagine his family can survive on his previous winnings, sponsorships and Nedbank retainer.
  3. So, David George just phoned and asked me to ride the W2W Race with him this weekend.
  4. Reading his admission, I visualise the broad smile on his face at the Pioneer when he knew he had the 100k wrapped up. What a 2 face loser. I love how anybody caught out takes the emotional approach, looking for sympathy. I also remember Kevin Evans saying to Paul Valstar at the Trek, how this prize money would come in handy for his kids schooling. Wonder how Mr Evans is going to deal with Mr George on this one. But I must also ask an obvious question. With Team 360 Life seemingly being thick as thieves, did Kevin not have any clue that something was going on? Did he not notice a spike in DG's riding at some point? Why take EPO if there is no visible improvement in your ability? At the top level even the smallest % increase would be noticeable. Just asking.
  5. I heard that the test was done in August already (on the Cape Talk News bulletin). If this is true, can someone please tell me why the suspension only comes now? I can't imagine it takes that long to get a result (it's not like the SAPS Forensic labs are conducting these tests). George and Evans' season ended with the Cape Pioneer and now the announcement. Looks a bit too conveniently timed to me.

What he said. Did the Adventure last week and feel like another dose.

Small knobs on the back. Just make sure the sidewall is strong. Lots of sharp stones on route and saw plenty of tyre repairs going on. Route was mainly dry with some wet patches nooks and crannies. Times should be fast for the Race.
  9. Deon. Going to get a training plan to prep for Epic. We seem to occupy a similar place in the field, if I go by the Pioneer. I'll give you my plan to look at and you can see how it appeals to you. The guy trains my Epic partner and she has improved in leaps and bounds over the last 2 years. I'll keep you posted. Btw. Are you camping or B&Bing at the Epic? If you're going to look for Beds, then we must talk logistics regarding massage and all try and stay at the same place.

The Suunto stand charged R 20 to charge a Garmin.
  11. Chris Willemse and Cycle Funatic got some. If you don't see them there , they could have run out. I'll keep tabs on the stocks and replace asap.
  12. Happy to debate this in a meeting. Just to make a point. Give the San Parks rangers a bit more credit. It's not like the trail map has woken them up to the fact that there are trails they didn't know about. They are out there every day and know the mountain better than any of us. The rangers know where guys are riding illegally. The fact that they are getting away with it , has more to do with lack of resources and priorities. Rangers want us to use the mountain and like ideas TMB has proposed to share trails with other users. Don't get them mixed up with San Parks management. The desk jockeys are the problem. Baby steps required here to make progress. If you want to debate, I am happy to meet.
  13. Same reason Oak Valley is off the list.
  14. That would be the next logical progression, but I somehow doubt it. The sponsor has a contract with the Epic until 2014, so there is a 50/50 chance I might get another ride to make it 4 in a row. One of the leading teams (non professional) is budgeting R 300000 for the next year. This telephone number includes everything though, from wear & tear items during training, right up to race support (no upgrade packages or camper vans). Once my luck with sponsor entries has run out, I will tick off the Epic as "done" and move on. It will make my wife ecstatic.
  15. Sit tight. Entries will come up, guaranteed. Keep training as if you had an entry and be patient. Paid full price in 2011, half price in 2012 (waited) and was lucky enough to get a sponsor to take care of the entry in 2013.
  16. That was never going to happen. I wonder if the demand for entries has been so strong due to everyone thinking it would be a Knysna-Lourensford route?
  17. Saronsberg was rubbish last year. Let's hope they have found better routes this time around.
  18. You riding the Adventure or the Race?
  19. Weather is looking great for the start next Friday. Organisers promised that no matter what, we will get to the finish this time. I'm riding the Adventure with my wife and would be keen to do the Race as well. If anyone needs a partner at short notice, let me know.
  20. Now you accept the refund and put it towards organizing your own accommodation next year. At the B&B's we stayed at in Calitzdorp and De Rust, the owners picked us up, drove us back for massage, back for dinner and then dropped us at the start the next morning. In De Rust the B&B owner even gave us his car to drive to the start , because we wanted to be there a little later than he did. We just had to leave his car parked with the key under the mat. Now that's what I call service. If I do Pioneer next year, my wife will be there. 20 years of Physio experience and she will give you her undivided attention during each massage session. That 5k will do the same as the 16k for the Platinum upgrade.
  21. Not going to make it today. I'll ride tomorrow , if anyone's keen?
  22. sms me on 083 6319796. leaving office now.
  23. could make 5pm. Let me know , otherwise I'll take it slow coming home.
  24. tube, bomb & adapter, pump, plugs & plug tool, multitool, gators, couple of cable ties, tyre valve (if you're tubeless), spare derailleur hanger for your bike. 50ml refill bottle of Stans. Other than the hanger for your own bike, split the above with your partner to carry each day. Take a pair of brake pads in case of rain. If it's dry, don't bother. Spare tyre. Take a clean cloth and some bike cleaner with you, the bike wash is DIY. Take a bottle of chain lube and cloth to wipe excess off. Stick to a minimum. There are plenty of mechanics around who carry spares.
