  1. Got another R 300 off with the Sale voucher. Costing me R 2537. I buy all over the place, give everyone some support.
  2. Check last month's Tread Mag for a review . 42k for an XTR spec bike Kilo No.1 Airforce fork. No Frame only price given. Call 086 1116230 for more info.
  3. I'm going to order over the weekend. XTR 2x10 Crank. With the voucher discount it's around R2850. Bargain! Won't order spokes though
  4. No event will prepare you for what you experience at the Epic. You won't be able to replicate the nerves, stress, pressure, intensity of the event. If you've got deep pockets then go and ride Trans Baviaans, Pioneer Trek, W2W and Knysna 300 as a lead up, but you can save yourself a lot of cash by getting used to many hours in the saddle. A lot of base training and once 100km plus, off-road not on tar, doesn't phase you, reduce the hours and focus on intervals. 2 months before Epic go down to 8-10 hours/ week, that's more than enough. Best thing you can do is get used to your partner's habits and foibles, strengths and weaknesses. Communicate all the time while training, and be man enough to admit when your partner is pushing too hard and you are taking strain. To go back to your original question: Do the Pioneer.
  5. Anybody needs some carbon cream in the future, come around to my place . I will sell you a squeeze for R 5. PA Hire. I hear what you're saying. Olympic has actually managed to beat some of the CWC prices . I give them a call and tell them what I can get product X for somewhere else and they generally match it. Give my mate Paul Winter a call at OC, he can make a plan with his swipe card
  6. I use the Cycling Lane once a week for a training ride on my Mtb. I don't see thorns on the path. The tarmac is excellent and there is enough space to avoid any pointy stuff should it be there. Never had an issue with congestion. You can see so far ahead that there's enough time for any evasive action. The only long wait for cars is where you come out of Paarden Eiland and have to cross Marine Drive. At the other intersections I find it easy to cross. I use the Lane to train on my own and with a friend, so no problem there. If you want to train in a Peloton, you are going to have problems on the road too. Paarden Eiland has been fine. Visibility is good and there is enough time to take evasive action if you feel there is a threat. Ride in the middle of the Bus Lane through PE, if you want more space to dodge an attacker. You can see the buses coming a long way off. Stop making excuses and use the Bike Lane. Maybe the chops riding on the verge are closet pervs wanting to check out some cleavage or leg when they pass cars stuck in traffic.
  7. Got the Tacx Carbon cream, all they had . R 250 for a small tub. I know I'll use min, but a hefty price.
  8. Will be heading there. They have pretty much everything.
  9. Ok. Save me hassle of phoning around Cape Town. Work in Obs. Which shop will have carbon paste in stock?
  10. Cool guys, thanks. The clamp looks fine and has not been damaged in any way. Will give the Carbon paste a try. Probably something you get at Motor Spares places?
  11. Put my bike back together after Sani and now my seat post is slipping! It was absolutely fine before. Ride a Niner Air Carbon with a Thompson Alu seat post and it's held together by a KCNC 34,9 clamp. Cleaned the inside of the frame tube, wiped the post down, checked the clamp and give it some WD40, but it's still slipping. Could the clamp be worn out after 6 months? Pissing me off and I need a remedy. New clamp?
  12. Been a Gobi fan for 2 years and have ridden 2 Pioneers, 1 Epic, Baviaans, Desert Dash, LOTCR and W2W without complaint, until Epic 2012. My ass got 2 massive sores which have still not quite healed. I don't know what happened, but now I am questioning the saddle, although it makes no sense since it worked fine during the other races. I have the 2012 Gobi which has a slightly longer nose. I am finding that a bit uncomfortable and am wondering which saddle might be better, if any. Problem is, there aren't many test saddles around.

    Joberg2c 2013

The Joburg2c follows closely after the Epic. How tough is the course (just did the Sani for the first time, so am aware of the last 3 days)? I will do Epic 2013 and if I can secure a sponsor for J2c, I would like to rid it as well. Just wondering how an amateur can handle 2 big races so close to each other.
  14. I have it. Send me your email address and I will forward my file.

    SANI2C

can i charge my Garmin somewhere? i just use my laptop, but won't be taking that along. same goes for the GoPro
  16. Every tried the bibs made by Skins , Australia? Very nice. I got some coming on Friday in Large.
  17. Epic had.
  18. I did it about 3 years ago. The route is undulating with mainly jeep track. Some short, sharp climbs and then the main one up to the radio towers with a long, rocky descent. It had rained a couple of days before and the clay surface felt like you were riding on velcro. Tough going. Plus it was frikken cold at the start, the puddles on the ground were iced over. The route is not that scenic, low scrub throughout. Not bad, but I woudl save my fuel to drive to another race.
  19. 10-20% "Admin fee" for cancellation this far in advance would be reasonable. We take a straight R 200 fee for cancellation plus any bank charges, more than 30 days prior to commencement.
  20. First ride was me, myself and I. It was to be expected, but the weather was great. Dry, water coming off the mountain, very pretty. I ride anyway ,so I am not too fussed riding on my own, it would be nice though to see more interest. Most people are sitting on the fence, watching. Thursday I ride again.
  21. Update: meeting point has changed to Bacini's at the top of Kloof Street. 5pm.
  22. Thanks for the information, appreciate it. I have been riding and training to my Heart Rate for the last 2 years, but want to switch to Watt training and am only starting to research what's out there. Prices are high so I want to do my homework. I am looking for a PM for my Mtb only. Is it cheaper to buy overseas (asking, but will start researching from today)? Cycleops, SRM and Power2Max. I don't want to have to buy a whole new crank, I see the P2Max system can be attached to a standard crank system. Costs R 7000. I'll go back through this Thread as well, but if someone can point out whether certain systems only work on road/Tri bikes I would appreciate it.
  23. Just saw this Thread as I am interested in a Power Meter. Anybody out there have any info on this Cycleops product? http://www.cycleops.com/en/products/power-meters/powercal.html?page=shop.browse&category_id=25 Looking at prices of PM's and this device comes in way below the hub or crank systems.
  24. I will start a ride from Carlucci's on Upper Orange Street, every Thursday at 5pm. If anybody wants to come along for a ride of an hour and a bit , you're welcome. The route will go past the Herzlia field into Deer Park and then towards the Blockhouse, head up to Tafelberg Road and then down on to the Jeep Track towards Kloof Nek. Up to Signal Hill Viewpoint and then down the Jeep Tracks towards Poyser Road and back through Tamboerskloof. Join in and peel off where you like. I will set out rain or shine at 5pm sharp. Email me if you need more Info: ride@ tablemountainbikers.co.za The route may vary depending on what guys feel like (add in Plumpudding Hill from the Rhodes Mem side ). I will look at the feasibility of riding the contour trail above the German School and we might include that.
  25. If races just stopped handing out medals , eventually guys would stop complaining about no medals and still be proud of themselves for finishing. But, this is the kind of subject where you will always have 3 groups: "Need a medal", "Don't need a medal" and "Don't care whether I do or don't get a medal". Most riders seem to expect the medal (for 376th place) ,so give him his medal, but make it different to the others. Achieve a certain time and you get a gold medal. Take longer and you get a Silver medal. Take the longest (376th place out of 400) and you get a Bronze medal. At least then there is some motivation to reach the next tier and get the scarcer medal. And don't bring category into it, all based on Time.
