  1. I suggest you add your details to the DC notice board. This is the first place teams look when they need a replacement. http://www.coronationdc.co.za/riders/notice-board/
  2. Yes, but what if the device was imbedded into the frame? Then there is no way to remove it so you can track your bike through the network.
  3. Could this be something we could use to track down stolen bicycles in the future? http://www.wired.com...len-bike-too/ Tile, a new product that combines tiny plastic tags with a companion smartphone app, promises to help lost stuff get found once and for all. But that’s just part of its potential. If adopted widely, a crowdsourced network of users could be a powerful resource for recovering stolen stuff too.
  4. Ride the road bike in Summer and the MTB in Winter. I like the choice of doing both.
  5. There is a guy in Hout Bay (retired engineer) who is brillaint at building and trueing wheels, and he doens't charge a fortune. Let me know if you are are interested and I will send you his contact details.
  6. Condolences! I konw how you feel. Sounds like a professional job but someone must have seen something. I put up reward posters and got my bike back in 3 days. it might be worth a try.
  7. I also had a brand new GT MTB stolen out of my garage in Hout Bay a year ago. I put up Reward Posters at the bus stops, Spar and Shoprite and within 30 minutes had my first call. The bike was spotted in Harbour Heights and my informer gave me details of who and where. I passed this onto the police and they recovered my bike. It had already been sold twice (apparently) by the time the SAPS got there. The police never bothered to follow up but I at least got my bike back and I was happy to reward my informer. Now my bikes live in the house with me. My wife calls them "our extended family".
  8. Went at around 9:30am and wasn't too busy. Spent a pile of cash on t-shirts (R75 each), sandals (R150), Golf Shirts (R150), Oakley glasses for Missus (R150), belts (R75) and bunch of other stuff. Prices have dropped since yesterday but less stock. Not a lot of choice left in the sunglasses section. Prices should drop again tomorrow.
  9. Two guys tried to mug me in October last year on this route just after the tunnel under the N1 on the railway side. They knocked me off my bike as I rode past so I had a nasty fall. I am still pissed off! I continue to ride this route but I am very watchful and now carry a taser. I haven't heard of any trouble along here in a long time but it's best to be careful. I ride from Hout Bay to Century City so I am normally riding against the traffic so I ride alone. If you can ride with someone then even better.
  10. I am 94kg and 1.9m tall and did a 3hour 3min Argus this year so even though the weight makes it more diffifult, you can still be somewhat competitive. I was 113kgs when I started cycling again in 2007 so the cycling has certainly helped me lose weight even though my BMI is 26 (overweight), my body fat is around 7%. Muscle is heavier than fat. Make sure you have strong wheels. My first bike had poor quailty spokes and I had to change them rather quickly.
  11. Bennett's baby bum cream has worked for me but I normally catch it an early stage when it's still a pimple and it's gone within a day.
  12. thanks for the support. The City is concerned and asked me to send them a report - which I duly did. hopefully we will some visible policing in this area in the near futue.
  13. I was the guy that they tried to mug at around 5:30pm last night. As I rode under the N1, I could see one guy standing alone but I was alert and looked out for anyone else. I managed to avoid being robbed but sustained some serious roasties and a stuffed shoulder. I spent the evening at Constantiaberg Hospital getting x-rays. Thankfully nothing broken. The chap that kicked me off my bike was very calm and cool and I got the impression that they have done this before. I ride this route a couple of times a week and haven't had any isses until now but we need now to be on the lookout. This chap was standing very casually looking away from me and his mate was hiding so I didn't suspect anything. I have reported this incident to PPA and asked that they report it to the City of Cape Town. There needs to be more visible policing along that route. That section is very remote and quiet so it is the ideal place for muggings.
  14. There is a group ride every weekend (either Saturday or Sunday) from the Complete Cyclist shop in Hout Bay tp Cape Point via Chappies, Fish Hoek, Simonstown, Smits, Scarborough, Kommetjie and back over chappies (about 80 kays). Some riders continue through to Green Point for an extra 40 kays. This is a great ride and you are welcome to join us.
  15. This MTB has been recovered by SAPS. I put out reward posters all over Hout Bay and had my first call in this regard within an hour. The bike changed hands a few times in the Hangberg area but my informer gave me a name and a location, which I handed over to the Police. I am very happy to get my bike back even though the carbon back stay was cracked and I have had to replace the frame.
  16. My Brand new GT Zaskar 29er (White & red) was stolen out of my garage in Hout Bay last night. The local redistribution experts forced open my garage door and helped themselves to my bike and tools. This is 2012 model and there aren't too may around. Please let me know if you spot this "baby". Thank goodness my road bike was in the house and is safe and ready for the Argus!
  17. Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I will going for the FS after all.
  18. After many years of being a roadie I have decided to invest in a moutain bike and want to order a 29er. Now the question is, do a get a hardtail or full suspension? I am a rather large guy at 102kg and have been told that heavier guys like myself should rather go with full suspension bike, but then again, others have advised that the larger wheels produce a smoother ride and a hardtail is perfect. Are there any larger chaps out there who have done some stage races on a 29er who can give me some feedback?
