  1. Chatted to him once, he was given the bike a few years ago and also someone took him to ride the Argus a few years back if I recall correctly. He commutes everyday, rides really strong, where is the PPA to help guys like these. Looks can be deceiving.
  2. I commute between Stellenbosch and Durbanville mostly between 6pm and 7pm, and in the last few weeks, it is still relatively dark. First of all the nigh riders from CWC on Wednesday looks awesome, looks like a plane coming in to land, with all the lights, looks like tons of fun and well organised. But for all the good there is always the bad side as well, and I would hate to read about riders getting taken out at night, but we have a few Darwin Award nominees in our cycling community. On Monday night saw 2 riders riding from Stellenbosch direction N1, no lights, its dusk and trucks and whatever pulling into the yellow line, super dangerous. The second genius, thought it appropriate to wear his full black winter kit (remember no lights), I thought I was passing batman (black tights, black jacket, no reflectors). Then again last night saw a few daredevils, but standing out again is people leaving Durbanville to Silos with no lights about 5 minutes behind the CWC group. Let’s think about what we are doing and keep safe out there. I started talking to Signup on getting some signs up in the Durbanville area, post to follow.
  3. Azonic, very easy to be an armchair critic. Mr Koen for you that is, is better than many other most other cycling commentators, even the guy that currently does the Giro on SuperSport. I also dont understand what you mean by what he does for a living? Anyway, you are surely too bored in life to start such a silly negative thread
  4. Malcom is just 100% right. We had a pretty cool Pro Calendar a few years ago, and yes even in isolation we had some decent riders coming out to race in RSA. We raced against Vinkourov, Ulrich, etc. Rapport Tour, Boland tour, Hansen Tour and the Giro del Capo was Mickey Mouse at the time. I am also a fun rider, but I dont get all upset when someone mentions fun riders, that is who I am right now. To take this up with Cycling SA, reeeaaly, get a life. Oldschool2010-05-12 04:02:10
  5. Engen is also putting money in some Fun Rides, nicely done.
  6. Well mate good answer, if anything, you got some good advertising out. Good luck with the job, just glad I dont owe R3.5k on bike services, my wife would kill me.
  7. Totally undestandable,They would rather deal with some spandex claded guys (I know we are tough, some oke did the Epic in spandex), than some insane Soccer hooligans that will come and torch the Multichoice building. DSTV also did us a favour, think what a Hooligan will do the next morning when he sees some cyclist riding 3 abreast and he is coming from the Bar. So in hindsiight , thanks Multichoice.
  8. Some guys must lay of the protein juice, it also makes your thingy shrink
  9. Just make sure on the duties, bought some bike bags, 30% duty that, could have gotten it at Chris Willemse for the same price, for the rest super sweet deals. I also had an issue where they did not send all the stock as listed, but they have been great and I picked the rest up this morning. Just remember to manage your order well if you choose out of stock items, I emailed them and cancelled some items to get it sooner.Good luck
  10. What office? he holds no politcal standing. He is the leader of a youth movement , like when a was a hoof voortrekker in die North West voortrekker commando, OK made that up, but get the point Oldschool2010-03-18 14:55:44
  11. Firstly, All said our guys road or mtb are hitting some good form, hope Burry and Kevin hit form when it matters, in RSA things work a bit different, poor Kevin needs to hit form every weekend, where abroad the riders work towards a peak. Like Lance he would barely win a Race untill it gets to the Tdf (back in the day that is). Secondly we are looking at an exciting Epic, hope the Burry, George and Kevin can stay on form Thirdly, that R16k for Malcolm's (he still got it) is sad, I think the Cycling bodies can start to treat our riders better and start paying the big names, they ride on the names of all the good riders for TV coverage, but pay them nothing (Shame on you PPA), Lance scored a hansom R500 for his 10th place, are they sending him the Cheque. Lastly tried to watch the pathetic coverage from Sabc 2 which I recorded, they could have left it. Did they show the Giro during the week? Because that 2 minutes they showed, was sad. I can do a better job with my cell phone camera overall.
  12. What everyone forgets is that George taught Evans to train like a roadie to be a better mtbiker, which obviously worked. Burry is just an awesome athelete. And for Lance he has nothing to prove, taking a nice training ride and hurting the rest of the bunch while doing it, he wont go for the sprint, but dont be suprised to see him on the front for a long time abd cracking the wip on Suikerbossie, if you followed his training this week, you can see how he staked out the route. So for all our weekend warriors suffereing in the wind tomorrow, remember last year you did it with Jason Bourne, this year its Lance, cant wait to see who is doing it next year
  13. O dont put stickers on my car, but for the Think Bike Cycling SA one, I would make an exception
  14. gobbo dont defend so hard, I am sure you are a standup guy, but with a topic like that you know you were going to get flamed. Now, just stop, drop and roll
  15. Can some of the organisers maybe put something together, I am keen to watch some of the racing in Durbanville and also the Signal hill TT, I looked for some start times on the Giro website, found none. I think there will be some goode racing, although there are little international riders, the local teams can go hard at eachother. See some good names on the start roster Darren lill, Kevan Evans, David George is the Giro King (took over from Andrew a few years ago.), then there is the whole of Medscheme. NICE
  16. Got the email from Cycletour to win a bikerack saw this bit "Dear OldSchool By now you must have heard that cycling great, Lance Armstrong, will participate in Cycle Tour. He joins the likes of Greg LeMond, Eddie Merxx, Jan Ulrich and Matt Damon who have participated in previous years, and it is amazing to know that South Africa's greatest race is enjoying increased international attention. If you have entered the 2010 Cycle Tour, you should have received your start group and time by now. If you haven't, " Well the great Indurain and 5 times TDF winner has made Argus trip on many times in the last few years, pity that 5 wins is no longer good enough to be remembered. I have to give away my signed Banesto Yellow jersey now
  17. Not so sure if it was him, I dont think he is that smart, but here goes U.S. cyclist accused of computer hacking French judge has issued a national arrest warrant for U.S. cyclist Floyd Landis on hacking charges. The warrant was issued January 28 after French anti-doping authorities accused Landis of hacking into one of their laboratory computers, Pierre Boudry, the president of France's anti-doping agency, the Agence Francaise de Lutte contre le Dopage, told Reuters on Monday. 18. Just placed my order at CRC, I must admit one can also get a bit carried away.
  19. Hi Just want to know if someone bought a bike from Chain Reaction Cycles yet, worked out fine? Import tax on that? Thanks
  20. qoates like this that gets you fired man.
  21. I understand the plea to stop the thread, but there is still some things to be said. Like Hagar I don?t look the part, whatever that is , at least not like a Pro Racer. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I could also understand the feeling of a cold shoulder first time visit, as you are mostly used to your LBS with 1-2 customers in there all the time, Willie sometimes looks like Cape Town station with plenty of buzz, especially before a big race. I have only ever gotten great service from these guys. I don?t know Willie personally, but has always been friendly and helpful. I wandered in and out the shop for a full year, before I bought a road bike. And the day I bought it I got super service and a great deal from Willie himself, for that I will always be thankful. His shop was always well stocked and for most of us who need expert advice from our LBS, for that they provided a valuable service to the cycling community. For those of you buying online, yes it is mostly cheaper, but refunds and issues is a B1tch. I am saddened by the shop being closed (even temporarily, hopefully), and hope they could somehow get back up and running. This is also evidence for how bad the economic state currently is. To Willie, John and your team; all the best of luck and thanks for the service you and your team provided to the cycling community for many years. Hope to see some positive comments from some of negative buggers on the hub.
  22. I also fail to see the issue, had the same to comment as Willehond, that part of the N1 is not illegal. As far as hugging the truck, I dont let that oppurtunity let me by, just hope the truck lights work and you dont hit part of an 18 wheeler tyre burst.
