  1. We observed a minute's silence at the start of the south group ride at 7am yesterday. Condolences to his family and friends - very sad indeed. No one seemed to know who the cyclist was.
  2. Co'mon...Not the end of the world One Sunday every year the runners have a go at a the reserve loop - WOW!!! I take my hat off to them - can't ever imagine running there... @ least if you're on a bike you get to free wheel down the hills Good Luck to the Bruce Fordyce 50km runners on Sunday There was no mention of Saturday 2nd April on the notice that was up, so should be ok to take the bike through there on Saturday
  3. FYI I was there last week Sunday. There was a notice up informing people that the reserve will be closed to vehicles and bicycles this week Sunday 3rd April. So giving this weekend a skip - back there on 12th April
  4. I have had shocking service from Johnson's Cycle Works - they produced a fraudulent invoice and were paid by my insurance company last October for work done on my Trek Madone WSD after I was hit by a car. Funny cause the only work they have done to date is remove my cassette from my damaged back wheel, fit a loan fork to my frame and oh let the Cyclesure assessor through their front door last October. The invoice was for a new front fork, STI levers and rims - haven't received any of these to date! Well at least now I know why they didn't make an effort to keep me updated with the progress of parts etc from the USA...they were sitting pretty with money.
  5. extremely scary - was so out of it for 2 weeks the lesson I've learnt during this frustrating time + it was highlighted so clearly in January - your health is important + you've got to listen to your body when it's telling you to slow down, else you land up doing more damage! I've just started doing some moderate exercise again...going to keep things chilled for a while - enjoying the fresh air + sunshine...focusing on having fun and forgetting about racing this year! @Wheelsuck... happy pedalling @ 60% ... @ least you are still doing what you love Once you fully recovered you can push the limits again
  6. The coxsackie b that plagues endurance athletes is not the acute form but rather related to chronic fatigue syndrome.
  7. snap - I have it too Think I posted in @Wheelsuck's thread before... For me it's been a struggle...I was told my viral levels were down last december, so picked up my training a notch + landed up in hospital 2nd week of Jan with suspected encephalitis . I'm convinced there's a link cause I've read that coxsackie can cause encephalitis. Don't think I've ever been as sick as I was just over a month ago. Collapsed on Sunday 16th January, rushed to casualty @ Bedford Gardens...followed by 4 days in Milpark Hospital. It's been an extremely frustrating time but I have had to accept that for now I need to take things easy... the encephalitis was a very scary and a big wake up call - my body was forcing me to slow down! Take it easy + listen to your doctor - your health is important... if it means resting now then do it, at least you know you will have many healthy years of cycling / running / swimming to come
  8. RIP Graham... very sad news indeed... you will be missed . A great cyclist, phenomenal character, courageous and always smiling !!! Condolences to his family and friends.
  9. I have a Trek Madone WSD 5.5. I bought the bike from Johnsons Cycle Works at the end of 2007. I am on the third frame - two warranty claims for paint peeling off the frames - one in 2008 and another in 2009. Both times I had to wait more than 2 months!!! On 26th September 2010, I was hit by a car. Not much damage to me but the quote for replacement of the front fork, both Bontrager race lite rims and STI levers came to roughly R18 000 Cyclesure was extremely efficient and the claim was approved within a few days . Johnsons gave me a lead time of 3 weeks for the parts to arrive from the US. They supplied me with a loaner front fork so I was able to ride while waiting. Almost 5 months later, I AM STILL WAITING I am livid with Johnsons Cycle Works for their LACK OF COMMUNICATION. They do not bother to update me on the situation - I have phoned a few times and just get told that the parts have not arrived from the US yet and are 'on the way' i.e. Trek / Just Fun issue. Apathetic service from both Johnsons and Trek / Just Fun
  10. I am sure the route is fairly flat - doubt we'll head towards Karee Kloof. The race is only 60km + Karee Kloof is a good 45 - 50 km from Stone Haven. Certain Cows have been known to push ice cream bikes , so helping fellow cyclists shouldn't be a problem
  11. I had an UDDERly MOOtastic ride at the MTN OFM Classic – it’s awesome to get out there and raise awareness, to ride with a purpose and with each pedal stroke know exactly why you are out there. You are able to keep going regardless of how you feel on the bike because you are focused on something so much bigger than just the race. I managed to create quite a stir at the start line, featured on the OFM live Twitter stream. Had a few hilarious but minor ‘tail’ problems in the first part of the ride but otherwise everything went sMOOthly. I managed to slog it out in the heat and wind, had tons of fun with fellow cyclists and spectators, even saw some fellow Friesland Cows out to PASTURE along the route!!! http://twitpic.com/34nt2w Hope everyone else had an awesome time
  12. I live close by too...count me in
  13. Know the place very well - love it there . Just have to watch out for the staff vehicles travelling in the wrong direction Awesome hill training + just being there is "chicken soup for the soul"
  14. definitely MaD and proud of it! All the causes already mentioned are noble and worthy and deserve support. We all have our own personal reasons for helping and getting involved with a particular one. For me, being able to take something I am passionate about, riding my bike, and through that being able to touch lives, is awesome Remember that every little bit of support, be in the form of money, time or other, makes a HUGE difference
