  1. Looking forward to it, I am worried that it is going to get warm out there tomorrow
  2. My insurance company is not interested as I had not specified the rack in my policy. Not one of those you think about until it happens. And my car was undamaged. So annoying - he knows he is liable, he admitted he would have to pay for it and now he is back tracking. What is wrong with people.
  3. So my bike rack was driven into last week while I was parked at a shopping center. I got the persons contact details and told him I would contact my insurance company. My insurance emailed to say they won't cover the rack. I then phoned the guy who drove into it and asked him to claim from his insurance, his car was also scratched. He said he is not claiming from insurance and cant I just have it bent straight. My question is surely this is now a weak spot on the rack and with prolonged vibrating while driving the arm could snap? Would any of you guys trust this. I have sourced a replacement frame from the supplier and emailed him the quote but he is now not replying to my messages
  4. So jealous, wish I had done that instead of the Val de Vie. I broke my seatpost at 22km so had to join up with the 30km route. I saw no no single track in the 45 km I completed, was there anything in the 60km? The advertising for the event said world class single track. The T-shirt was nice.
  5. Hopefully not too bad when I went back an hour later the road was cleared. All that is left is glass and sand over oil with white spray paint showing were the car was. No body bag at least.
  6. The main road in Lakeside is closed to traffic. A cyclist has been hit and all I can see are crumpled bicycle wheels and emergency vehicles. I was just beginning to think I would start training on my road bike again.
  7. Sounds like my mom: 23 Argus cycle tours - has never changed a tube. She just phones my dad to come out and do it !
  8. Never had a good experience in store but seriously you went ahead and dropped 3k after a comment like that?
  9. Riding on the M5 in morning traffic in the rain? seriously? WTF
  10. Luke is great. He has even had the patience to sit with me in the evenings, after work, while I built up 2 of my own bikes in his workshop. Was lots of fun and I learn't so much.
  11. Stay 150km away, I use their online shop and most of the time it works like a dream but the 5 - 6 times I have been into the shop have been awful. It may be because I am blond and female but when I finally can get someone the give me service they are usually disinterested and/or condescending. I always get the impression that they take one look at me and decide I am not cool enough / hard core enough / rich enough to be a serious buyer. I took a friend there to buy an entry level mountain bike and the salesman didn't offer to let him sit on the bike let alone test ride it, I had to take it off the display myself and say to the salesman can he take it into the parking lot to try. It was an embarrassing experience with someone who I really was trying to get into the sport which I love. It made me appreciate the small LBS where the owner is the salesman and knows that if he treats you well you are likely to go back the next time.
  12. In a similar situation After this happened: I ordered one of these: But now I feel like a dork: But at least I have my front teeth
  13. Exact same thing happened to me after about 3 months.
  14. Wasn't there a legal case recently where a businessman leant a colleague a few million rands. The colleague never repaid the loan and the case went to court. The businessman lost the case as he was not a registered credit provider. Doubt Neils Wheels is a registered credit provider.
  15. Face first into a tree ...
  16. I rode Tokai late yesterday morning, the weather was amazing and there were so many riders enjoying a break from the rain. These guys must have been very brazen/ high, it was hardly a day when you would consider yourself riding alone or vulnerable. On our way home we were passed by 4 speeding cop cars, they all entered Westlake and drove passed the gym- Must have been following the church robbers.

  20. Email from the local neighbouhood watch: Cyclist Attacked and Robbed near Tokai Arboretum On Thursday evening, 27th September at approximately 7.30pm, a resident was attacked in the Tokai Arboretum parking area. Resident was riding fast through the parking lot in the dark when he was suddenly hit in the face. As he staggered, not knowing what had happened; two coloured males accosted him and took his bike. They both jumped on the bike and rode off down the road past the Manor House. Resident stopped a car that was driving up the road and the driver quickly agreed to give chase past the picnic area, but the thieves had already disappeared. Resident then went back to the security gate at Chrysalis Academy and with their help, alerted the police, armed response and the neighborhood watch. The security guards reported that they had spotted these 2 guys walking up the road and had been monitoring them due to their suspicious demeanor, but the point of the attack was beyond their range of view. On subsequent inspections of the area, resident has found a thick, solid branch about 2.5m long and believes thieves could have been hiding behind the first big tree on the left as he come down through the gate and then whacked him with that branch. Apart from 4 stitches on his chin, resident is fine and understands that SAN Parks want to write a full report. For what it is worth, for all the eyes out there, the bike was a White Giant Anthem 29er MTB. There are very few of those white ones in the country so it will always be easy to identify. If anyone has seen a bike matching this description, please reply to this email. MORE CAUTION FOR CYCLISTS An incident on Sunday 23 September has prompted a general warning to cyclists and runners in the Blockhouse / Rhodes Memorial area - to be on the lookout for a menacing group of youths (4 or more) who are not afraid to confront and harass people. These kids are seemingly high on something and were not afraid to block the road - prompting the rider to shoulder charge his way through the group. He managed to get away and to warn other cyclists who were on their way up to the Blockhouse. Apparently they were reported but we have no detail on this. Regards, BKM Watch (Emergency Number 10111 - report Suspicious behaviour to 086 000 2669) Office 021 715 5557 open Mon - Fri 08h00 - 12h30 and 1st Sat monthly 09h00 - 11h00
  21. In the s/suburbs try Marelise Badenhorst, 021 7121173; she's a cyclist and has a masters in orthopaedic rehab
