  1. Aaarrrggh I love this race (done about 8 or 9 now) but its now been moved to DC weekend! There are loads of MTB'ers who do DC....... Oh dear sob sob
  2. RIP Burry
  3. Thanks to organisers for a great day! Really really enjoy this one - the technical bits and the amazing feeling of being out in the most stunning fynbos :-)

    [Event] WP XCO

Hi does anyone know if this is still happening? As its at a 'Tygerberg' venue I thought they would have something on it.. but they don't.. Help? Anyone?
  5. The 45km was awesome last year! Brilliant riding in the fynbos, with awesome views and some nice tough climbs. I'll be back
  6. Looking good Erm - permit information is sketchy in places (e.g. hemel & aarde - its not explict enough in text that permit is req or the vague price) Clicking on Eudoia cycles for hemel & aarde take s me to cederberg wine And Is there any reason that so many of the central & klein karoo spots on the map have lovely images of the cederberg arch?? which in most cases is about 300km's away from said spots? (or am I being picky here...)
  7. You really do want tough tyres for Attakwas. I wouldn't use Schwalbes. Go for full UST and something reliable like Maxxis Larsens or Conti Race Kings. I've done my previous two on Spez Fast Tracks, but even these are a bit risky.

    swazi frontier

Great report - really sums up ride. Loved it - Jason & my first time. Jason's first time at the back of the race due to my speedy(!) riding Spare a thought for the two Swazi guys who took the 'swazi gold' wrong turn, did an extra 1.5 hours and still managed to actually miss the swazi gold...............
  9. wasn't arguing re need for clean up - just saying that sanparks prob wouldn't do for MTB unless formally approached and asked for permission to ride there. I agree its sort of a grey area I'm just repeating what I know from meetings with SANParks. I wouldn't like to see the issue 'pushed' as I know people do ride there and I've had the 'official' position from SANParks. This was several years ago and the position might have changed. AMArider would have contact details for who is currently in touch with SANParks re MTB (e.g. fixing trails in Tokai) if you want to do something about 'formalising' riding and / or getting it cleaned up. The article in Tread doesn't make it right.........
  10. Stunning photographs. ummmm one minor point.... SANParks are unlikely to 'clean it up'. Technically speaking as far as I am aware you are not supposed to be riding up there. Its not one of the recognised MTB 'legal' tracks....... But things might have changed since.....
  11. AVOID having all your cartilage removed. BAD plan. From what I understand from friends who have had meniscus tears (from climbing) and repairs (shaving off of small bits). Recovery took about 6-8 weeks and cycling was part of the recovery . As dusty said - back on bike quickly. Muscles and tendons aren't affected as in an op such as a cruciate ligament repair. Just moved out the way to get to the cartilage. Hence faster get better rate.
  12. The village people at Netherlands v Cameroon... and interesting hats
  13. The loss of a sensibly organised active topics has made using the site slightly nightmarish.... Please either sort out the active topics (organise by forum) or split all the adverts off totally. Or both. please please please - was promised last week but still nothing
  14. Thanks Tygerberg for a well organised ride. I really enjoyed it. The trail - in pure 'technical' terms it wasn't that tough until you tried to ride it very fast, with no resting etc etc as noted by MTBiker! it hurt ! (and was fun ) XC racing really adds a new dimension to riding 'normal' trails
