I was there on Friday for some shorts. Got good service, not sure of the price comparison, but the service was very good. I'm glad we're getting some more retailers into cycling the fold here (in Fourways). For a quick in and out in Fourways, we only really have Cajee's and Cycle Lab. So for the day to day stuff, I hope SW keeps it going and comes to the party. Big up for trying, hope it works. BTW, everyone was wearing black Livestrong T's...

My first, Monster in any form. Did the 70km and thought I was in good shape. Cramped up @ 28km mark and it didn't let up until a fella named Willem gave me some of his potion (magnesium) took 10 mins and it mostly disappeared enough to bear with the pain. He even stayed with me for a few k's afterwards offering some hugely needed encouragement. What a champ, thank you. What strikes me on these rides is the fact that everyone who passed me while I was in pain on the side of the course offered some sort of assistance. This doesn't happen on the road rides, not even for punctures. One of the many reasons why I love this sport. Cycle computer says I did 5h16 riding time, while I ended with an official time of 5h54, so that's 40 or so mins fixing my legs and having some refreshments along the way. Very happy with the official time though. Next year my hard tail 26'er will need to make way for some bigger wheels. But I'll definitely be back. Thanks again for all offers of help.

Hi, Ride the spruit fairly often and have also been uncomfortable with the inhabitants between Witkoppen and William Nicol, where else is there to ride appart from Northern Farms etc. At this rate, dare I say it, the road is a safer option :unsure:

Right, so it's been a while since this thread looked like dying, anyone tried it for longer period? There's now anew Garmin out there and I'm even more confused. I really like the Polar and can't decide which would be better all round. Any ideas?

I've ordered a few times from CRC, only one hassle. I ordered a Polar CS600x cycle computer with some extras, when it arrived, it failed to start up. I called and they very politely pointed out that my blonde hair was at work and the battery was possibly the problem. I went and replaced the battery and all worked. CRC offered to refund me the cost of the battery. They also offered, if I was not happy with that arrangement, to let me ship the unit back to them for a full refund as well as a refund of the cost of shipping back to them. This was all no questions asked. As far as I’m concerned, problems happen, that’s not the issue. The issue is how they’re dealt with, and these guys did a great job.

I have only been riding since January and have limited it to MTB. I am now toying with dipping my toe into the road. I've looked around and have a budget of R25K max. Absolute max. Should I look to buy a bike or would it be better/more cost effective/more fun to build a bike?

Not sure on this one, I bought a TFS300 from Cyclelab and after about 6 months and around 3500km's when the bike went in for a service, the shock had some problems, turns out it was full of water. It was sent off to Suntour (In Cape Town) who said they could not repair it and I'd need a new shock. I asked for the same model to be put on the bike and prepared myself to pay for it. When the bike was ready, I was told that I would only be charged the cost of transporting the old shock to and from Cape Town and the replacement, whcih was the model up from the original was not going to be charged for. So it cost me R200. Not sure if it was Cyclelab or Suntour that made it so easy and quick (about a week) but either way I managed to go through the whole process with relative ease.

Hi, This is something that is done in the USA as far as I can see. Are there any of these in SA? I battle with the knees and a little with the back, so the running is quite tough for me. Any ideas or feedback would be great.

Hi, It just so happens that I am looking to buy an AMR 7500. I currently ride a 46cm framed bike, hardtail, and I see the closest I can get to this size on the Ghost is either a 44cm or a 48cm frame. Which size would be more suitable and why do they not provide a 46cm frame?

I'm riding the two Knysna Oyster festival races next month and thought it would be an easy thing just to go and get a carrier for the bike to load it onto the plane. Now I ride a fairly inexspensive bike and was a little blown over when I discovered that these things cost almost as much as the bike did! Any idea if anyone rents these things or where I could get a cheapish one?

Hi All, I start a week day riding in complete darkness. Now that winter is approaching, it seems I'm doomed to finish in the same fashion. I have tried a few lights and although I seem to get some distance from many of them, I'm now faced with the problem of not getting a very wide angle. Any suggestions on what light I could get for around R1K that would provide good light wihout being to close to a laser as far as beam width is concerned?

Seems I'm squeezing plenty of brain power out of you guys these days. I bought a Polar CS600X and decided to add the cadence sensor and the GPS unit as well. My question is this: If I have the GPS unit and use it whenever I ride, do i need to install the speed sensor onto the bike? Surely the GPS unit will gather all of this information for me and add it to the ride's file? am i duplicating information if I install the speed sensor and use the GPS at the sanme time? As usual, I look forward to the wealth of knowledge that always follows my questions :-)

Hi, I have been using a generic hydration pack for a while now and given the increased distances I am now riding, I need to upgrade to a 3l unit. I've been shopping around and can't seem to find any consensus on which Camelbak is the best for my use. I ride MTB 98% of the time and need something light and practical, a small amount of cargo storage for snacks etc. would be advantageous. The problem is there are so many variants out there; I’m not sure where to look first. Any ideas? Thanks, Jigghead
