  1. Thx ... was thinking white toast and jam 2 hours before swim. And brown rise or pasta tonight.? Last thing I want is reflux whilst swimming.
  2. Thank you. What specific carbs worked for you the evening before?
  3. Doing the Race2Stanford tomorrow. Will be my 1st full 70.3 distance as Theewaterskloof Triathlon had the swim cancelled. Question to the guys that have done these ... what's best to eat the night before ... and the morning of the race, and how long before the swim do you stop eating. Thx.
  4. WTB 40C Nano Tubeless, at 4Bar, mixed Stan's Race and Stans Regular sealant 50/50, doing 50km to 80km per day. Not had to stop yet to fix puncture.
  5. Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but should I fetch a Apple Watch 4 now or will SA get a LTE version within the next 6 month, or is it the one available now? ???? The Vitality 24 months on previous watch just lapsed ????
  6. Anybody doing the Race2Stanford 70.3 I'm getting a little nervous. The weather doesn't look great for the swim and I'm a right-side breather ... ???? ... means somewhere in the loop I'm going to have the spray coming right at me as I breath ???? I have been training alternating but not comfortable breathing to the left side yet.
  7. ???? I did a commute from Lakeside this morning with a tailwind of 50km/h .... I was freewheeling uphill ????????????
  8. ouch .... I think the Tableview guys cycling back home from town this afternoon is going to have a fun time too ... the wind is pumping, and it's not the South-easter
  9. Unfortunately they had to cancel our swim leg at the Theewaterskloof Ultra on Sunday. They postponed the start with about an hour hoping the water temperature would rise. With the final measurement at 11.4 degrees celsius, it was too low and the officials had no choice according to the triathlon rules to exclude the swim. They decided on a run-bike-run instead. ???? It changes the race strategically too, as some of us were planning on stealing time from the swim to ease the cycle. .... But the day turned out great. ???? I need a lot more run training though ????
  10. Thank you, good luck to you and hubby too. I'm 133, and my partner is 104 ????
  11. Wow ... look at the wind speed .... can't ask for better than that, going to be awesome!!! ????
  12. yes .. the runoff from the snow is going to cool the water, and the air temp isn't great at 7:30 either. I always struggle those first few strokes, trying to force my face into the water ....
  13. hi ... yes, we've been keeping an eye on the weather for Theewaterskloof all week
  14. Sorry to hear ... hope you heal up soon ..
  15. How did you decide on who's doing which leg? Would imagine it being a fist-fight for the cycle? I can't run to save my life .... doing the run in 10 & 1's.
  16. Doing my firtst Ultra in 2 week's time at Theewaterskloof, and just had a look at the cycle profile. Have to do 3 loops for the 90k cycle. That hill is nearly at 6% for 2.5km .... Copied the Power images from Bicycling - website. Wish I had a bit more time to lose weight, although I am more worried about the 21km run. Is it normal for Triathlons to have hills like this .... thought triathlons was generally flat so as to be able to compare time between different 70.3 events? .... lots of fun awaiting us ...
  17. Cotic fork, PLT handlebar, Ultegra Shifters, Dura ace 10 rear derailleur, Campagnolo Athena crank, Adamo seat, bb7-road disc brakes, Oval seatpost, Funn stem, Blackburn rear light, Trelock rear dynamo light, Exposure Revo dynamo front light, backup flashing silverback light, Sp dp8x 15mm dynamo that I laced to Mavic Open Pro UST 32 hole rims, and a rear dt swiss 350 hub and wheel from a Juliana on tubeless WTB 40's ????. Most of the parts including the 2011 Ridgeback Flight from the BikeHub classified, bar the dynamo, Mavic ust rim , and the WTB 40 Nano tyres. ???????????????????????????????????? I love this bike, it goes everywhere, fast !
  18. 24.5km x 2 (49km round trip) 2011 Ridgeback Flight, hacked, modified and converted to a cyclocross bike. (SP 8x dynamo 15mm front hub with Exposure Revo lights ???? - lights always on)
  19. I wasn't that lucky ..... nearly got blew off the bike crossing the Black river via pedestrian bridge between Observatory and M5 ... rain bucketing down
  20. Thank you. I will definitely concentrate on my breathing going forward. I've also found a gym where the smell of chlorine is not that excessive.
  21. You are right. I am trying to find evidence to either refute or support Dr. Price's book. All the other causes of cholesterol have been published widely. As a triathlete, have you observed how many triathletes struggle with high cholesterol on said forums? Without appropriate explanation. It does not seem to make sense as triathletes are generally some of the fittest people around. Thank you for sharing your results above. It refutes his theory.
  22. So have I. Up to before I started swimming 3 hours a week in chlorinated pools for triathlon training I had 15 years of very low cholesterol levels.
  23. Thank you for the post. I was hoping to get a bit more information. Do you swim there +-3hours a week, have you done so continuously for the last 10 months. Have you had a cholesterol check in the last month? I am interested in data supporting or refuting Dr. Price's proposition. He purports that the continual scarring of the arteries/veins caused by the chlorine, and the cholesterol layering the scars as the cause for the high LDL cholestrol. Breaking the cycle with weeks of no swimming, or swimming in open water will allow the arteries to heal and cholesterol levels to lower.
  24. Hi Eddy I hear you. My main objective was to find out whether anyone else on the hub had experienced similar results. I know there is many variables, ... even if Price's proposition holds some truth, ..... the chlorine content in each pool will differ. I'll keep an eye on my cholesterol intake and go for another check-up in 3 months. Hopefully the anomaly would have corrected itself by then.
  25. Last night I trolled the internet again .. And found the following on another forum - US Masters swimming forum http://forums.usms.org/showthread.php?12301-Body-composition-and-swimming Further into the page she gives a more complete picture of her history/results. The lady has 13 years of unexplained LDL cholesterol levels hiking when swimming more and lowering when swimming less. There is obviously many variables, but Dr. Price's book might be an explanation for her results.
