  1. Eish ... I am so disappointed for your sake. On my side there was the recent cancellation of the Two Oceans Marathon. But there is also the possible announcement on the Comrades later? It's very painful. But I think cancellation of the Cape Epic far outweighs the other events. Sorry
  2. Are you doing the Epic? .... Awesome, would love to do it one day too!! Best of luck!!
  3. The other awesome advantage about gravel bike riding is the tremendous strength training towards road racing. My commuter is a heavier gravel bike “2012 Ridgeback Flight 3” with drop (road) bars, and 40c's rubber. The extra continuous average wattage that I need is excellent for building endurance, while keeping with the geometry of your race road bike. When I get on my road bike it feels like a feather compared to the commuter. I believe Wout van Aert’s success is built on this
  4. A couple of weeks ago there was a carbon Cannondale SuperX in the Bikehub classifieds .... I thought that is the perfect bike as I could swop out the gravel wheels for road wheels whenever I wanted to do a road race. .... was a bargain at 20K ... but the current recession stopped me from flirting with the idea.
  5. One way to curb this would be to enforce e-bike laws as done in Europe and elsewhere: Since 30 May 2012, Australia has an additional new e-bike category using the European Union model of a pedelec as per the CE EN15194 standard. This means the e-bike can have a motor of 250W of continuous rated power which can only be activated by pedalling (if above 6 km/h) and must cut out over 25 km/h – if so it is classed as a normal bicycle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_bicycle_laws
  6. I have no qualms with e-bike riders. Just think that mentioning "PB" and e-bike in the same sentence is irrelevant. Like racing around the CTCT in a car with your Garmin on? Glad most people enjoyed the ride, including the e-bike riders

    Why?

there is no money left in the country .... at least you are getting offers .... There is more than 1500 bikes for sale on bikehub .... don't think I've ever seen that number available before. If you want to get rid of "stuffs" you are going to have to let go (of what you think it's worth)
  8. Cygolite Hotshot 2W I have one that's been running awesomely for 3 years now ... bright as hell - 23 000 lux So ordered another 2 last week, one for the MTB and one for the missus, got the package this morning
  9. Thank you ... yes, Full Ironman next year, but Comrades this year I have to confess though .. only reason I cycled in today is because I'm sitting on 183 consecutive Vitality weeks. A colleague and I have a personal challenge going and I can't drop the ball now. Needed to get my 900 points for the week.
  10. I'm sliding down the board at speed. Been working from home on days that I need to run/train as I have picked up an injury lately .. which I think is (was told) from not enough rest? I'm hoping to participate in the Comrades this year This week I had to stay away from running entirely as I have ... Tibialis Posterior Tendonitis Still cycled in today though
  11. My advice would be not to load any initial relationship/date/friendship. Don’t see any newly acquainted person as a potential partner. Also, don’t try and find a partner outside your interests, rather find what you really enjoy, whether it’s hiking, cycling, triathlon, throw yourself at these activities, join the clubs and groups, and you’ll meet like-minded people while doing these …. And that’s probably your best bet for finding a compatible partner. It worked for me. Also, don’t date while you still harbour negative thoughts towards your ex … or exes It taints stuff.
  12. Agree, I love my Altra's too, but the sole on the Superior wore down very quickly. Since the majority of my running is on the road, the sole wore down even faster. Purchased a brand new pair of Altra Escalante's, absolutely love them. Did the Peninsula marathon in them. My feet not nearly as tired in the Escalante as compared to the Superior. Escalante's sole is much harder, and the new 2.0 has a much better heel-cup than the previous Escalante (in my opinion). Love them. Want to purchase a second pair before they change the model.
  13. ... you missed a commute because your Garmin battery was flat ..... I think an intervention is necessary .... commuters don't stop riding when the GPS battery dies !!!!
  14. Eish, sorry to hear, but very well done for finishing. My partner and I also did the Peninsula yesterday, trying to qualify for the Comrades. Was my first marathon too. I just-just managed to get there in time for Comrades qualifying, needed 4:50, made it in 4:47. From Fish hoek to Simonstown was brutal. Sadly my partner didn't qualify, we are also doing the West Coast marathon to get her there.
  15. lol !!! ... I'm at the Jhb office for a few days.. might only be able to get a commute in next week . The interference from the office has started
  16. https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/road-bike-reviews/compare/continental-grand-prix-5000-tl-2018-vs-pirelli-cinturato-velo-2018 The Pirelli's taking a beating on rolling resistance ..
  17. I'm also looking at trying the GP5000TLs, .... interesting that both Egan Bernal and Ivan Sosa from Ineos fell in the Colombian National Championships in Tunja on Sunday, and Team Ineos is sponsored by Continental? Both were front wheel slipping ... wonder if it had anything to do with the tyres they were running?
  18. I never have breakfast. I have only a cup of black coffee before I commute (cycle) to the office. On some days I cycle back home without having had anything the entire day. I do intermittent fasting. On fasting days I'll do the ride home a bit more relaxed else I bomb around 20km of the 38km commute.
  19. don't believe everything Hairy says ... rather find yourself a gear where your quads don't burn, grab the drops .. and spin. Hairy sadly only have one gear .... but it doesn't have to be like that ... but the wind will become your friend
  20. i am speechless
  21. While on the topic of Peugeot. I have a Peugeot Prestige Mirage from 86' which I want to fix up for the next "Hillclimb". Was my first race bike . I damaged the fork in a house-move and after much searching decided on ordering a fork from Soma. The steerer on the fork is a bit too long though. Does anyone know which bikeshop in the Southern suburbs will be able to thread the steerer a bit further down (and then cut the excess)? It's a 1" inch dia. steerer.
  22. Love tubeless .... best thing ever for commuting. See your tires is still new, I dread having to replace well used tires on my commuter – nothing goes like bald/smooth tires …..
  23. interesting article on transition from cycling to running ito injuries: https://www.pressreader.com/south-africa/business-day/20200126/282050509036403 reference: (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/329965611_Bone_health_in_elite_Norwegian_endurance_cyclists_and_runners_A_cross-sectional_study)
  24. Thank you. I did some road riding over weekends last year, but this year my weekends and off days are taken up by running. 124km running and only 1024km rides thus far for January. I'm on +-40km a week running, and +-300km a week commuting.
  25. it's scary how quickly things go wrong .... glad you made it out unscathed
