  1. Two guys attemped to steal my bike as I went out training today. I was on the stretch between Killarney Racetrack and the Du Noon settlement. Ive passed that way a couple of times a week, and am always on the lookout through Du Noon, but that's no longer enough, it seems. One guy ran out from the left of the road, ran alongside and attempted to knock me off, ( there was lots of traffic restricting my leeway) while another appeared rapidly to assist him. Traffic and the guys erratic runs in front of me prevented me accellerating out of trouble. Eventually I had to stop where Criminal#1 demanded the bike, all the time laughing. I then indicated in the negative and introduced them to a few new Irish swear words. All they time they were smiling, enjoying themselves immensely. Just when we were getting into the traditional test of strength to decide the matter, a senior gentleman in a white bakkie owned by Motor Masters stopped to help me. The guys backed off a few meters, I turned round and headed back, with the bakkie guarding my rear, until I was well clear. The driver gave me a friendly wave and continued on his way. If I can find out his name he can have the Christmas Hamper of his choice from me, with a gallon of whatever Christmas spirit he prefers. Stay alert and stand ready....you know not the day or the hour. Irishj92007-11-06 06:09:24
  2. yes..until the big powerful guys decide to storm through an unsurfaced road on 53*13 like it was the Forest of Arenberg ( Roubaix). Then all the light little skinny buggers get bounced around like crazy, so that they have no strength or inclination left to attack on Malanshoogte or even Vissers!! hehe Then the big powerful guys go on to win and they laugh at the skinny little wheelsuckers when they come home ten minutes down....hehe
  3. AND........BMC remove bike sponsorship from Astana. Manager retorts that several firms are trying to take their place, notably LOOK.
  4. I think its perfectly reasonable to report that " X states that Police were seen at the Barloworld hotel" But its a big jump from there to " Soler is positive' Irishj92007-07-29 04:25:50
  5. L'equipe reports the 2008 tour will revert to a mixed system. National Teams, sport groupings etc. A new start, a return to more innocent days, a cleaning out of the current team system, etc etc. What do YOU think? Irishj92007-07-29 04:19:40
  6. Vino's lawyer says: "Up to now, the public has heard only one version of events. We encourage people to keep an open mind and not to suppose that the laboratory has followed process correctly or obtained precise results"
  7. L'equipe July 29th Doping by Media For 24 hours the name of columbian Mauricio Soler was discussed in a new ( and false) doping story, carried by elementsof the Danish, German and Belgian press. Claudio Corti, manager of Barloworld explains: "Some of the press have not played their part correctly these last days. Everyone tried to win the race for the news scoop, without any checking, resulting in false information being released about my rider. How can you imagine that if I had a positive test, I would be able to keep it secret?. Its absurd. And we should have been contacted immediiately, and before the mud slinging commenced. Soler's case is symptomatic of the sick spirit prevelent in cycling these days. People see dopers everywhere. Everything started Friday about 5.30pm after the stage to Angouleme, where we were told that the police were waiting for us at our hotel. When we arrived, there was nobody there, but in the press room, some people had already recieved the false information. At 8pm we heard that Soler had been declared positive, but, there again, we had no information. Everything was totally blurred. Our rider was there, sitting opposite us at the dinner table, and we preferred not to tell him ion order to spare him the stress. During the night, I recieved many calls from Columbia without being able to explain to them what was going on. It was me who contacted the UCI Sat morning, to get some information on this false business. Suddenly the world had been turned upside down. Someone started this rumour without checking the facts. Thats serious. I almost called a press conference to warn the journalists and to tell them that we were happy with our Tour, with two stage victories. But reason won out, I didnt want to depress myself. I only want to say to many among them ( journalists) that I understand their job, that they are also in a real race, and are constantly trying to beat the competition. But they too have to respect the rules, and above all, without cheating" Irishj92007-07-29 04:23:32
  8. Give David Millar aring. Think he needs a new disc which doesnt fall apart when the pressure is on lol
  9. Probably no racing tomorrow till the Champs Elysees. There is talk of a riders protest tomorrow- remember?
  10. Tour organisers say Soler did not test positive http://www.cyclingpost.com/tour/article_005202.shtml However in my view, anyone who drugs up from today onwards, will be home free. And I include the TT. Too much damage sustained already. Positive results will be lost, like dockets in a SA police station lol Irishj92007-07-28 06:59:43
  11. ...Though, if it WAS Soler, I wouldnt be shocked!! You don?t need L'equipe to spot a drug cheat. All you need is to use your brain.... Irishj9 - July 25th : -"Now theres an interesting topic. Unknown South American comes to biggest bike race in the world and challenges major climbers who are all suspected ( some proven) to be pumped up with drugs. How is this possible? Richard Virenque complains bitterly in the press that French crowds have been insulting French riders in the mountains. "How is it possible that a wounded kazahk can beat the best in Franceon>" etc . Now we know. How is it that an unknown Columbian can beat...etc etc ===================================== Hehe! . Now, WHO is second in the mountains competition? CONTADOR hehe. 12. Dont get preoccupied with the exact nature of the rules. Section 12 paragraph 6 etc. These are only guidelines. We must insist on a higher standard. An ethical standard. Personal integrity and morality. All those who want the glory must be above reproach ( on the bike). Frankly I couldnt care less who they sleep with. Irishj92007-07-28 06:31:37
  13. Nothing in L'equipe this morning. Either the news broke very late last night, or its alla load of hoooey
  14. L'equipe - Sat July 28th Taking care of your rear end Since the start of the Tour the riders have spent more than 100 hours in the saddle. Their perineal zone, on which they sit, is therefore subject to numerous problems. To avoid the problems of overheating, infection of hair follicles, and even more serious medical issues such as the famous ?third testicle?, riders have to take great care of this area. Gerard Guillaume, doctor with FdJ, insists on the key importance of preventing lesions. ?Today, unfortunately, we sacrifice comfort for performance. Saddles have become lighter and lighter, therefore slimmer. But 40% of the weight of a cyclist rests on the saddle, and the perineal zone is therefore subject to a great deal of rubbing and compression so that its surface area, on which it rests, is thin and weak. We need to use wider saddles, without a gap in the centre ( because with them the pressure is greater on the sides, where the lesions are worst) , and without any stitching. The other way to avoid problems is to use a less rigid bike, a saddle specifically chosen to fit, and to take really good care of racing shorts. The shorts should be washed by hand ( preferably) or by machine with non aggressive washing powders. And above all, they should not be dried on a washing line!". Also you can apply a cream before putting on your shorts. ?the best are those with a Zinc oxide base, available at chemists? continues Dr Guillaume, ? But you can also use (baby) talcum powder?. Nicolas Bonenfant, a manufacturer of racing shorts, insists on another point. ?Your shorts must be like a true second skin, and not move at all. Choosing exactly the correct size can avoid so many problems? Irishj92007-07-28 05:53:38
  15. CASSANI UPDATE -L'Equipe He didn?t just SEE Rasmussen in the mountains that day in June. He had a conversation with Rasmussen. ?He told me that he?d already been riding for 8 hours, that he left his hotel at 6am on his bike. That?s what I reported. To praise him. To speak of his obesssion with preparation, his weighing of his food, his counting of the pate?s he eats, one by one, etc? The conversation with Rabobank manager De Rooy. Last Friday Theo called me on the phone. It was a brief call. ? Hi, its Theo. -Hello Is it true you saw Rasmussen, in June, in the Dolomites? -I think so, yes. You think so, or you saw him? - Do you want the real truth? Ok I saw him. -OK. De Rooy hangs up. It was 8pm the day Rasmussen left the Tour. Next the desperatecall from Rasmussen - Cassani - ?I heard a shake in his voice, a man who had never insulted me or accused me of anything, but I felt his pain, and it moved me to tears?. He ( Cassani) refuses all interviews ( which he could have offered at EUR4000 a shot) and remains in hiding in the RAI caravan. In his heart he remains inconsolable, he liked Rasmussen too much. ?I cantbear to think that in speaking to him (that day) I have perhaps destroyed the man, and his career, especially since I was once a rider too. It brings a wry smile when you think how simple it was to force him to leave the race, and throw the Tour into chaos. All it tookwas that, as chance would have it, one day in the Dolomites, a man alone on a deserted road in a rainstorm, encountered another man on a quiet sectet mission. Irishj92007-07-27 05:10:22
  16. McLaren accused of cheating in F1. They were found to have secret Ferrari technical specs on their computers. Guilty as charged. No sanctions. Half page styory, L'equipe P15
  17. Athletics now under the L'Equipe spotlight. In return for a reduction of his suspension term, Hindi delba, positive for EPO, is helping the IAAF press charges against 12 French athletes. Full page story...its not just cycling....
  18. THE NEW TOUR HAS ARRIVED! " YES, Yes, I checked all the rules. Sunglasses are allowed" Irishj92007-07-27 03:09:50
  19. lol ok from now on I will just state what is known. When the inevitable flaming occurs, I will tell you guys to learn French lol
  20. hehe I love the Plateau d'urineswitch
  21. lol a Colonel....excellent. If Rasmussen had a good excuse, he wouldnt have left the tour. His lie was exposed, and he knew it
  22. What do you mean you havent heard this one yet?. Try to hold the wheel at the back there please.....lol L'equipe July 25th - GERMAN TV SHOULD HAVE CALLED THE POLICE! Concerning the police search of the Astana hotel rooms, (last Tuesday in Pau after Vino was found positive for blood transfusions), the police should have made some strange revelations known to the team directors. Notably theone about Vino?s security arrangements, and the former ?bodyguard? of Lance Armstrong during his US Postal days, Serge Borlee. Theinvestigators should have warned police that journalists from TV channels ARD and ZDF had informed them that, the morning of the TT in Albi, they had seen Vino, early in the morning, climbing into a van with smoked glass windows, registered in Switzerlandon>, ( the one which awaited the Kazakh at the end of every stage). He was accompanied by a member of the team?.and whom they suspect of helping him perform blood transfusions. These samejournalists saw Vino return to his hotel, one hour later. Interrogatedon the subject on Tuesday by the authorities, the Belgian bodyguard denied having seen the Astana leader perform a transfusion. He was driving another van that morning, taking Iglinski to the TT start. =================================================== So thats OK then lol Irishj92007-07-26 07:05:38
  23. LOL !!!! If Contador is gay ( and thats his business only) then what are we to make of the rest of the peloton? Two hundred "straight", men, the cream ( !!) of athletic heterosexual manhood, cannot keep up with a little spanish queen? Oh PLEASE, make it so!!! The tour just gets better and better Irishj92007-07-26 06:44:54
