  1. Agree u do seem weird but have quite the talent as a master debater!
  2. From constructive comment and debate to the Hub gutter! Well done Ultimate hubber - I'm off
  3. Ok boet then send me the bucks!!
  4. Send me the R 250 and I will stop posting I think you will find it is more about the principle than the money! + the same logic can be used on the timing issue "Start timing all chip wearing participants already!!"
  5. One more observation - Why are PPA events not exclusively for PPA members?
  6. How about organising a proxy on the hub - I give you my vote
  7. Again an excerpt of my correspondence As the timing of the event is electronic and computer based and the equipment is in place already it really doesn't make sense that it would cost much more to time everyone with a transponder. Surely part of the extra entry fee could cross subsidise your expense. This would add to your membership benefits in two ways, cheaper timing and your members would have a more accurate and realistic view of their achievement. Whilst you have a flat rate to help manage an event, it is not the true cost of your involvement as all your members ride at a discounted entry fee, a substantial discounted fee! In fact as an organiser the easiest way to maximise revenue would be to attract as many non members as possible ! Somehow all of this seems convoluted to me and whilst I don't doubt your motives, I'm sure there is a more fair and inclusive way of doing things!
  8. Icycling - as a cycling business operator you surely have a vested interest in the growth in numbers of active cyclists. As such it makes good business sense to be involved in any organisation that promotes such growth including sitting and serving on committee's. As a cyclist I appreciate the work you and others are doing, but think that the PPA is making a huge mistake by using what appears to be coercive methods to gain members. As previously mentioned had (constructive) correspondence with Karin Pohl part of which included this; Thank you for your comments; it is always good to get feedback from both members and non-members, and relooking the services offered to cyclists is an ongoing process. We’ll certainly look at making our project funding and other initiatives more public. Yes, you need to do about 5 events per year to justify the cost of PPA membership. I copy from the previous email: Non-members/visitors who wish to ride in seeded start groups, are welcome to (and many do) join PPA for the day, in order to receive a seeded number so that they can start in the seeded start groups. As far as the winner is concerned: That will be the first person across the line, and you are entirely correct that the first person wearing a transponder may not be the same person at MTB events. Having said that, most of the PPA events are funrides and are listed as such on the CSA calendar, and as such the organisers may offer only hampers and/or lucky draws and not offer prize money, unless there is a specific licensed racing category (like the road riding leagues). We are, however, investigating a MTB league series and have been talking to WP MTB in this regard.
  9. +1 For the life of me also can't understand why PPA members don't add voice to the issue of timing. How do you measure yourself against the other competitors when they are not being timed? Surely you would like to compete against the whole field! Had a long email exchange once with PPA head and whilst I have to concede they do an enormous amount (check out their website)for promoting and developing cycling it seems to me they are in the process of poisoning their well, by being just plain obstinate. Coercion stinks big time!!!!
  10. I have been very happy with my Garmin but don't think I will buy again or recommend it to anyone else.If something goes wrong with the unit internally, you have to bin it, as the agent will not open it up. Apparently it has been hermetically sealed and can therefore not be opened - so if the battery dies it means a new unit!!! Not Ayoba
  11. My bike came out standard with 12-36 Giant XTC1 29er
  12. Suggest you go with the firmware option first, It fixed mine. My biggest issue has been the mounts that regularly need to be replaced - keep mine in my back pocket now. But wouldn't want any other cycling computer!!
  13. My RaceFace EvolveXC Crank Drive Arm has play on it even though everything is tight. Apparently a common problem due to spindle wear. Has anyone had experience with trying to 'rebuild' the spindles with J-B weld? Or perhaps have another remedy?
  14. Google this replace giant du bushing Simple process, got the bushing from Bearing Man
  15. Have done many of Dryland's events but never one involving PPA. Each one has been superbly managed. Have done a few PPA backed events and always been disappointed with their arrogant attitude, I say who needs them, by all accounts they cost a lot for little or adverse effect! Let people enter online until the day before the event! Early bird entry fees.
  16. Have a look at these http://www.squirtlube.com/pros/index.php http://www.londoncyclesport.com/Features/Features_All/Squirt_Lube.html http://www.bicycling.com/article/1,6610,s1-1-323-16558-1,00.html?cm_mmc=RSS-_-bicrsshome-_-NA-_-NA http://www.frameforum.org/newportal/squirt-lube-1st-impressions-gear-135 http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/tools/cycling-tools/product/squirt-lube-32098 http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=473370 http://mtbikeaz.com/2008/11/17/review-squirt-dry-chain-lube/ Tried the motor oil route and what is being said by Johan certainly makes a lot of sense, but I personally found that too much dirt was picked up and the noisy drivetrain, drove me to distraction. (Perhaps I wasn't doing it right!) I followed the directions from the MTBr forum and am much happier, despite the science!!
