  1. Have to give a shout out to Jason at Ballistic Bike Trading. Emailed the guy with what I thought was a complaint about one of his products. He called me right back to discuss and as it turned out, the product is 100% but the application was not that great! But he didnt stop there either... He got me to come round to his place where he sorted me out and sent me on my way, one happy customer. Great service like this doesn't go unnoticed! Thanks again Jason And be sure to check out his super BBT Tubeless Rim Strips! Easy to use and better than any other UST conversion!!!
  2. Hey Guys Did the first one earlier ths year. Its a good ride with surprisingly loads of single track. The climb arent too serious eithier. Last time the 60km was a double lap of the 30 so its perfect if you worried about over extending yourself, you can turn in after the first lap. There were some river crossings which werent great last time from heavy rain as well but the organisers did a great job at adjusting the route and ensuring we were safe, so it didnt detract from the ride. Good luck. See you there
  3. Thanks guys. I actually gave Solomons a call (LBS) but no luck. At least I know they out there now!
  4. So I did a tubeless conversion on an Alex DP17 rim using stans yellow tape and a Bontrager screw in schrader valve. I'm having an issue with the valve leaking because at first the end was too wide and thus didn't fit flush on the inside of the rim, so the geniuses who installed it filed the edges but now it cuts through the rubber still and still leaks... Anyone know of any other manufacturer who makes a bigger valve to lock into a schrader valve rim hole? Shot a lot
  5. Wow what legends! This morning I awoke in my nice warm bed, switched on my lights and flushed a toilet... Although I work hard for these things, I am apparently a spoilt brat... ha ha I also had a long and loud fart... And if I had actually followed through would it have contained the same level of intelligence as the peice I just read! Dont let this spoil your week. Its just hot air! Have a good week people of the hub who have the ability to think:-)
  6. Must agree! Jhb looks rather 3rd world in comparison to the Republic of Cape Town. In fact it prob looks 3rd world compared to Harare...
  7. I just got passed this linkhttp://www.jhbcityparks.com/typarks.com/ . Thought guys my want to take the survey and point out maintenance issues or what ever. also be good as it asks where and how often you use it, and if we put our hands up and show them how many of use these areas, maybe they'll pull finger and clean them up a bit (In places, some are good).
  8. Gotta put another one in for the Monorail/Crossmark combo. Really high rolling and although they more for hard pack, with the mono on from they do just fine in mud! And prob best value for money at the moment...
  9. Oh I've heard of this stuff. Apparently it doesnt contain latex or ammonia (Dont quote me on this I just remember reading it some where...) both of which actually void the warrenty on Maxxis tyres. For the guys who say they use bombs and dont have an issue this may be because the sealnt still dries where the rim meets tire as per normal but if you experienced a burp or the likes, you may find yourself having a diff oppion! Has anyone tried the no flats? And what are prices like cos Zero Flats, Stan's, Joe's are pretty dam expensive aswell! Check www.noflats.co.za
  10. Do you think they will catch me if I pedal really fast? I love the way others always latch onto something like this, saying they have been practising such n such for way more years but didnt call it that! Even though some guy got stoned one night a couple weeks ago and sucked it straight out his arse! Humans are strange!
  11. Late last year I changed from an entry level Marzocchi fork to a RS Reba Team. Not so much a comparison cos of the different cost etc. but man oh man did it make a HUGE difference. From my experience adjustable rebound is the most important thing on a fork! And the adjustable flood gate is really cool too. I sometime lock out the fork on tight decends (Not rocky tho) as it stops you from going over the bars and the floodgate still absorbs the big hits... Just as a matter of interest do Fox forks have a similar thing?
  12. Man I would give anything for a 100k bike! Well everything except for a 100k! I wonder if this need to pay for love stems from not being breast fed as a child?
  13. Funyy you metion auditing... Im one of those! And I can confirm it DOES cost hundreds of thousands of rands for just a few weeks of um... lets be diplomatic and call it "Problem Solving" And it is my experience that many people find this extremely painful too! Especially middle aged creditors clerks who have been doing the wrong thing for the past 26 years!
  14. Just intreagues me! Advertising on Discovery Channel cant be cheap! But more hoping for the rediculous entertainment:-)
  15. So after reading the thread on petrol/electricity prices, I need a little cheering up! So are there any scientologists out there? Is that the correct term? Im sure there are some strong opions just waiting to burst out of hubbers! Lets hear them, I need a laugh!!!
  16. Ja considering the selfish mentality of our, no wait, its not my government, anyway... We def need to start finding ways to better use our fast becoming scarce resources! Not too sure about the whole motor bike thing though, especially with the animals otherwise known as taxi drivers! And cycling is just as dangerous! I gues we gotta start living closer to work? On a positive note though, Saffa's have an uncanny way of getting through what ever sh&t is thrown at us! I heard a good quote the other day... "A government trying to tax itself into wealth is as effective as standing in a bucket and trying to pick yourself us" Good luck JZ, you....
  17. If only I could do it that way! Would save me cash on plane tickets!
  18. So Im flying to Cape Town over that fantastic Easter break at the end of the month and am considering taking mine and my fiance's bikes (mtb) with... So the first question I put forward is: Any tips on actually flying them? Im booked on Kulula and dont have actual proper bike bags... And secondly: Im there from about 22 April to 2 May, anyone got some good rides to do there during that time? Races or just places... Shot a lot!
  19. I thought the race on Sat was pretty good. The route was well marked and even the second time round the chalk was fine... There was lot of it! Not too tough too which was good because I was taking a little strain toward the end! I cam to the conlcusion that my tires were over inflated during the last 5 k's or so! Chalk it up to experience I guess! Personally dont care much for a goodie bag! Esp when it comes with rubbish like Imana soy mince. Also, when you late, what do you do with it before you start. They should maybe get hold of that stuff but then donate it all on our behalves to the local community we riding in or something. Having said that, its unprofessional to advertise that there will be something and then not give it. I thought they did a good job putting together so much quality single track, given the area we were in. Was also nice to not have some long mission before hand to get there! I'll be going the next one... After all, I gotta try beat my time!
  20. Cool thanks for feed back guys. Looks likes its gona be fun! If you riding have a good one!
  21. Hey guys so who's doing the race tomo? I know this isnt exactly the correct place to post but its where all the action happens! Any one ot any idea what the terrain is going to be like? I've entered the 60k and its the first time Im riding that distance so Im stressing just a bit!
  22. Buy Conti tyres from www.easybike.co.za they the best price by far.
  23. Interesting. I just changed my chain yesterday (On mtb). I was running Shimano HG 53 and also only got 100okm's out of it beofre my BBB chain checker said time to replace. And I keep my gear uber clean, so Im not sure how guys get 3000k's out of it! I also decided to rather replace now than in 3 months time and have to replace my cassette too! Upgraded to HG 93 so we'll see if I get better wear out of that.
  24. So a friend of mine (Chemical Engineer)told me how using CO2 bombs dry up the sealant in your tires... Not really believing this I went and asked the guys at my LBS. "No thats absurd" was the response! So, much to my surprise, while I was undoing some of the sh&% work done by another store on my UST conversion,I noticed all the sealant in the tire had dried up! So I went back to the first tire I had just redone (I had bombed it 5 mins ago) and about 70% of the sealant in there had also dried! I've seen this now with two different brands: Sludge and Zero Flats. Has anyone else had this issue? Seems a massive fail. Esp if you need to bomb your tire on a ride and then get a second puncture...
  25. Hectic! Thanks for the heads up!
