Event Name: Cape Classic 380 When: 8 November 2019 - 10 November 2019 Where: Montagu, Western Cape Category: Road The sixth edition of the Cape Classic 380, a Montagu based 3-day road event is scheduled to be held over 8th to 10th November 2019. Under Cape Cycle Tours’ new ownership, the 2018 event was successfully re-engineered and was roundly praised by participants for both its organisation and its unique vibe. Largely and predominantly social, but incorporating some fun competitive sections for those who wish, the event has become popular with the fairer sex as the organisers boasted a 52% female entry in 2018. For 2019, Melkbos Cycles come on board, joining existing sponsors PowerBar and RBS Insurance. The RBS Time Trial record, set by the sponsor himself at an average of 52kph, is the target to beat on Stage 1, whilst the King (and Queen) of the Mountains and Points jerseys are up for grabs over the full 3 days of the event. [/url] However, all participants will be faced with a challenge which Tim Brink describes as “tough, but manageable”. 100km with 1500m climbing on Day 1, 160km and 1870m of climbing on Day 2’s Queen stage and 105km with 830m of climbing on the final stage. Days 2 & 3 cover the whole (and more) of the Coronation Double Century route making the event an ideal preparation, albeit in a slightly more relaxed manner. As Tim reported “the organisation is slick, with a fully protected peleton, enjoying motor traffic, Think Bike, medical and mechanical support, luxurious lunch stops, friendly Ride Captains marshalling the front and rear of the various ability groups and occasionally more socialising than is healthy for the following morning”. For 2019, and in line with the event’s female friendly ethos, the organisers are pleased to announce their recruitment of Lara Tennent to join the crew as a lady Ride Captain. Included in the entry price is a Saturday night braai hosted by Montagu’s fine dining B&B, the Mimosa Lodge, where presentations will be followed by fines, aided and abetted by the liberal flowing of free wine provided by the sponsors. Event Name: Cape Classic 380 When: 9 November 2018 - 11 November 2018 Where: Montagu, Western Cape Category: Road After the launch of the Cape Classic 380 in 2014, the event has attracted those looking for a multi-stage road event and has become particularly popular with local triathletes and those undergoing a training programme building up to the Coronation Double Century. This year the event is set to take place from 9 - 11 November 2018. This is a challenging, superbly organized fun 3-day cycling event based in Montagu in the Western Cape for amateur enthusiasts looking for a friendly event with an optional competitive angle. The event founder, Andrew Selby, is moving on to new pastures and has passed the event on to Craig Edwards of Cape Cycle Tours under whose “Captainship” the event will continue. The event will retain the founder’s ethos of being a relaxed and informal affair, but the event stalwarts, of which there are a number, bring their own competition and old rivalry into the race sections. However some changes are planned to the previous 3 day format. Day 1 will be slightly shortened to around 100km, although the nature of the out and back route, along the little travelled Koo Valley out of Montagu, offers the flexibility to increase the distance if required. The price for a shorter day 1 is, well, a longer Day 2….Day 2 will comprise 160km of the Coronation Double Century route but starting from Montagu, riding via Swellendam, through the Tradouw pass returning over the main challenge of the day – the Op de Tradouw climb – and back to Montagu. This will enable DC participants to experience the infamous final 3 “rollers” of the DC into Swellendam, but this time on fresh legs. Day 3 will comprise the Day 2 of previous editions, being a 106km loop from Montagu to Bonnievale via Robertson and return via the Cogmanskloof Pass. Therefore the whole of the DC route will be comprised within the routes of Days 2 & 3 and the logistical challenges of the transfer to and from Ceres of previous editions will be avoided. Been lucky enough to have been testing a 1000 for about a month now, very cool bit of kit but not something I'd take out on a MTB ride. The screen is significantly better than the 810 (sensitivity and colour) the wifi is very nice to have too. My only problem so far is that I can't set up different bike profiles - hopefully something that will be sorted out with some software upgrade. No I don't work for them !

Re Team HotChillee: our 6th rider's ( Nicholas Dlamini) timing chip wasn't properly linked so the result you see is for our 7th rider to cross the line. The problem was resolved yesterday before prize giving with the race commissioner.

If you're staying in the Hostel, what ever you do just don't get up before 07h00 ! It's f...ing cold out there and the race only starts at 10h00 !!!!

I've been looking at the pro's and cons of the two options for a while, the BG option seems more thorough and personalised ? Or do I just wait for a retul system to open in CT ?

I live in Hermanus and ride the routes around Elim, B bos, Struis and Malgas often. The riding there is a bit more forgiving than the Cederberg, would be a good place to test kit and get some experience. The farmers are also quite friendly if things go wrong.
