  1. I'd rather be the non-asthmatic athlete, I am asthmatic, it is not fun, racing is harder without, I have done it without before. Oh and the higher possibility to have a heart attack due to the extra strain on the heart because there is a feeling of drowning whilst surrounded by beautiful breathable air, but cannot get it into the lungs. No thanks. TUE's are there for a reason, there is chronic conditions for which it is supposed to help, if you are treating a temporary condition, the cyclist should be rested and NOT racing. In my not so humble opinion.
  2. One day soon I will be riding the spruit, as with everything in Joburg, don't be stupid and try to avoid dangerous situations. I personally would not ride it alone. A small group is better, more social and perhaps more fun. Not easy to an active group of ladies together to cycle though.
  3. I don't miss my cruiser (have no idea which wheel size it was, but lots of gears), I used to ride to school and back, 8k's of downhill in the morning, got to school in a jiffy, never took lunch to school, so basically bonked every afternoon trying to get home doing the same 8k's in reverse. Taught me to hate hills, wind and just about everything else, also taught me the beauty of cycling in general, bonus was I GOT STRONG. LOL
  4. People look at me and my 26er and nod in agreement, NO 29er for me, it is just too big, a few has commented that I should perhaps consider a kiddies bike! LOL! I am NOT missing my gears though, SS all the way. 200 cents worth of "advice" LOL
  5. As well as 1000's other studies. Not picking on you guys, but it is true. Women are not chosen to be 1st on any list when it comes to any type of study, specifically sports science. Second or third best or later studies perhaps but never ground breaking studies, unless it has to do with very typical "women" things ... OK going to think happy thoughts now, not good for blood pressure or state of mind, it is Friday afterall, best day of the week.
  6. Typical (friday rant) most "scientific studies" are done with men in mind, because women cannot be tested ... ok women are too complex ... or we don't suit the criteria due to x, y,z. It would be refreshing if some studies were done with women in mind, not just studies specifically aimed at womens health, but health, training and wellness in general. (rant over) I am too old and too much estrogen anyway.
  7. OK, so your trips must be quite flat then, or only uphill, no hectic downhills and very good takkies to stop. LOL! Like it a lot, not practical, but like it a lot.
  8. @ braailegend, how do you brake with this one? is it a fixed gear? I try to only go fixed when on the track, hehehe
  9. Big fan of Whippet cycles, will have to check out Hunters. Love the single and fixed gear bikes.
  10. Track cycling and speed skating are close buddies, yes speed skaters makes awesome track cyclists. Both fantastic events to watch. Love the speed! Hectic
  11. Most of the medals land up in a shoebox anyway, I only keep the Provincial ones I earned myself and my spouses Provincial, Nationals and International medals. Shew the UCI Master medals are the only ones that a really really pretty, sleek and shiny! All other medals pale in comparison have no meaning at all, junk in the cupboard.
  12. 1. Slow cycle touring in the Netherlands, eating lots of stroop wafels, beer, cheese and bread 2. Slow cycle touring in Sicily, eating and drinking lots of local wine, food etc. 3. Riding at the Sir Chris Hoy Track in Scotland, doing a PB in a 200m sprint qualifier ... ahhh what bliss, perhaps even a 500m TT 4. Riding at a dutch track, just having fun 5. Attending one of the Belgium 6-daagse events
  13. Just do not think about trying out the track discipline, you'll love it and will not be able to do anything fun with a PPA membership, oh wait PPA does not focus on track as a discipline anyway .... nuff said.
  14. Hi there anybody and everybody, Probably not the right forum to post this request, but can anyone please confirm the venue for the 2012 Track Cycling National Championships. It would be good, as a lot of planning etc. goes into getting the logistics into place for a track cyclist to attend these. I would feel much more comfort if I knew the venue. AARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH! Frustrated!
