  1. Ja, but this is where the muscle starts, to the right of the shin bone of the left leg.
  2. So, I decided to go running yesterday and as with everything, I had to go full gas. Mid run I got a sharp pain in the inside of my left calf muscle, which forced me to stop. From what google tells me, sounds like shin splints. At the moment I can't put much pressure on my toes (either pointing toes up or down). I cycled into work this morning, initially not being able to push down at all with left leg but then once it warmed up could spin easy gear with no pain. Can't really walk properly at the moment. Not too worried about running, but anyone know how long it might take before can cycle normally again?
  3. Perhaps just my personal preference, but I think it'd be cool if the search section (BUY, SELL, CONNECT) was collapsible. It's not something I use often but takes big percentage of vertical real estate (I seldom have browser fully maximised)
  4. Me too. And I already know all the stories
  5. I just tell myself while I'm riding into the headwind..."Don't moan. It's gonna be an even stronger tailwind at 5pm" I hit 74km/h along the beach road on way home from work last week between Blouberg circle and big bay. Chasing the sand down the road.
  6. I think Hartlief must have towed a few of teams to a PB. Jack is a monster.
  7. Except for the roadworks section, I think it's perfect as it is. The neutral zones add to the vibe of the whole event, as does the faster teams starting last. Overtaking teams does slow you down a little, but it's not that bad and adds to the gees. Imagine the lonely day out if you're the slowest team and you start last.
  8. You haven't got a spare lady for our mixed team have you?
  9. Swallowing all pride! https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/184057-desperately-seeking-a-female/
  10. All the banter is on the DC whatsapp groups I bet. There's definitely still DC gees.
  11. This was my first MTB race I've done and it's weird I actually feel totally fine on rocky / technical type stuff, but normal dusty jeep track freak me out, like those red dirt roads through vineyards. I crawl through there because it just feels like I'm going to slide out, and if the road is sloping to one side, i end up drifting off of the road and into the bushes. I dropped too many F-bombs in that first hour. To make it worse, the sole of my (borrowed) shoe came off within 10km of the ride, so rode the next 50km resting shoe on the sole which was still clipped into the pedal. Had some good banter with one dude who'd smoke me on the downhills and then I'd pass him on the following climbs and then he'd pass me on the downhill again, which we carried on like that until the finish. Shout out to Robert! (I think that's his name) Also got loads of chirps for being on a 26er, along the lines about belonging in a museum.
  12. I spent 60km thinking about this post and wondering to myself - "when is this cobra thing that everyone's talking about coming up? I don't want to be airlifted out of here". I got to the finish and still didn't know what the cobra was!
  13. Entered! Now just to find some mtb shoes before tomorrow!
  14. Am debating trying the 60km mtb. Am quite fit, but not a mountain biker. Wondering if I'm being naively optimistic, as usual.
  15. The point of seeding is so that you can 'funride' with other people of similar or greater strengths than you, and be pushed outside of what's comfortable for you. It's often not actually fun at all at the time, but there's a feeling of reward after the suffering. You can ride Bainskloof pass etc. any other other time for fun, don't need to enter an event for that.
  16. As I understand it, your seeding is calculated based on the winner's time, so I think it's irrelevant where you place in the group. I think a lot of guys misunderstand that. The times I've ridden in B, it was a coffee ride with everyone sprinting for a position at the finish line, and I'm sure it's probably similar with other groups. I always found if you're not in A group, the only way to improve seeding is to work hard together so that group's finishing time is closer to the winner's time. The lower the beta of the race, the closer to the winner's time you have to be to better your seeding, so on a flat or short race, it's almost impossible to improve seeding unless you're really seeded badly. It's definitely easier to stay seeded in A once you get there, as you're more often than not riding with the winner for the majority of the race, if not all of it, so your time will likely be very close to the winning time.
  17. Do you have a link or any other info? I think I might have just passed through that section when it happened
  18. Jeez the weather is miff. We all still doing this?
  19. Just came across this yesterday, sounds like fun. I'm in...if I can get up on time
  20. Yeah, got so close but I was on my limit for that whole first hour. Not sure how much good I'd have been even if I'd made it back to the bunch anyway. Our little group had averaged 40km/h into the wind by the time I fell off the back in Fish Hoek and don't think I'd managed a sip of water in that time. Had also hoped to at lease salvage a sub 3 but alas. Thanks for all the pulls though. Can't face one more person asking me how the Argus went!
  21. I started in $. I'd guess that more than a third of the bunch was involved or caught behind a crash in the first few hundred meters before even getting onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard. Spent the next hour chasing at full gas with a group of around 15 guys who were way out of my league. Got to about 20 seconds off back of the front bunch when they dropped me on Fish Hoek main road. They made it to the bunch and I was left to crawl along in the headwinds in no man's land with three other stragglers. Around Smits some more $ dudes caught us up and we hammered through the tail wind sections but our little bunch went to pieces though the cross / headwind section up to sun valley. Was down to 4 of us by the time we got to chappies and picked up some dropped riders along the way to suikerbossie. With all of us shattered, one of the Savages sat on the front most of the way down along the 12 apostles to home. Pretty humbling day out!
  22. Surely you ride at your own risk? What if it rains and people die from crashing, how is it different to crashing because of the wind? How windy is windy enough to make it CTCT's fault and has that benchmark dropped since 2009?
  23. I rode in 2009 and also in 2011 until it was stopped and I thought 2009 was worse. There's no doubt that it's dangerous in wind like that (I'd actually argue that it's more dangerous in the rain), but I'm not sure that I agree with cancelling it completely. Perhaps letting the top x (x to be determined by somebody smart) groups ride, based on the assumption that your seeding could be an indication of your ability on the bike. It would suck for people who can ride well but are seeded badly, but still better than cancelling the event entirely. Or maybe just let whoever wants to ride, ride, we're all adults who agreed to the T&C's. Most noobs will be happier to stay in bed anyway. Besides, you're being drama queens. It's not going to be as windy as that and I seriously doubt it'll be canceled on account of the wind. Refer to post #847 on this thread. The wind forecast has dropped since that post, and will still drop a little more IMO. Whooplaaa!
  24. I generally plan my life around what windguru says. It's too far out to be accurate. Usually what happens is as you get closer to the day the wind prediction drops off a bit and often shifts up a day or two (eg what's currently forecasted for Friday becomes Sunday's forecast. The worrying thing is the lack of wind we've had this last week and also the lack of wind forecast for next few days, usually the south easter comes to collect its pound of flesh. I'd put money on it being windy next Sunday, but not as strong as currently predicted. Write that down...
