  1. So, they say the 2016 99er is an official seeding race for the 2017 CTCT, yet they penalise it because it's older than 6 months, so it effectively doesn't count. Then the 2017 99er supposed to be seeding event for 2018 99er and it'll be same story with that too. Am I wrong? How is the 99er ever a real seeding race?
  2. asked a dumb question. ignore me.
  3. I got the same. Is that good?
  4. My advice is to turn off your lights like a kilometre from hijack alley and ride in the bus lane...fast. Be as stealth as you can.
  5. I wear a helmet for 99% of my time on the bike and it's really saved me a couple of times. Still, I don't want somebody dictating to me what risks I'm allowed to take when it doesn't concern them. If I want to cruise down to the beach in my flip flops and cap, I don't feel like it's anyone's business and likewise for me to dictate to somebody else what risks they are allowed to take.

  7. Same here. kit been lying under my desk and is still completely soaked. See you on the cycle lane!
  8. Made me wonder about my commuting mileage per year. I've got a 32km round trip. Apparently there are 250 working days in 2016, minus roughly 10 days of no commuting due to illness or injury. I'd say I've done at least 7600 km in commuting alone for 2016!
  9. I have an aluminium Ritchey WCS seat post on one bike and a carbon version on another bike. Holding the two seat posts in each hand, I'd almost say the aluminium version was lighter than the carbon one. I don't notice any difference in comfort between the two while riding.
  10. It was around 8am. They were there again today. Looked like they were pulling people over randomly. Was expecting to be told not to go onto the N1 by bicycle.
  11. Anyone cycle along Marine drive and onto N1 this morning and have any trouble with the traffic cops at the end of Marine drive?
  12. Same here, I find traffic is backed up and moving slowly along marine drive and N1 until like 9am. Same thing with going home before 6pm. Worst case scenario, you ride on that little single track next to that N1 section with no shoulder (it's fine on a road bike) until to you get onto marine drive.
  13. Didn't see one bicycle commuter between Milnerton and Cape Town CBD this morning (around 7:30 am). Where's everyone?

  15. I'm not new to cycling (have been commuting to work by bike pretty much every weekday for the last 4 years) but am fairly new to racing and very new to riding with a power meter. I don't really train during the week besides my commute (15km each way) but often do a 3 or 4 hr ride on the weekend. This week somebody suggested I get coaching, which was what made this thread catch my eye but the thing I always wonder is how much can you really gain by putting in so much more effort (law of diminishing returns). Would be nice to be a real contender for a race, but at the same time, would hate for riding a bike to become a chore. What if the coach told me I had to cut down on lemon creams?
  16. My statement was more of a question. I'm new to riding with a power meter so those were my thoughts. Was interested in what you and others thought. I weigh 66 kg and ftp is around 330 watts, which is around 5 w/kg. On flat races I don't feel like have much chance of winning at all, but races with steep climbs are more in my favour, yet there's always a handful of guys that climb that bit faster, which is why I was saying I thought 5 w/kg wasn't quite enough to win a race. Maybe 5 min power is more crucial in road racing than ftp?
  17. That was what I was trying to get at. 5.5 w / kg is a big jump from 5 w/kg 5 w/kg isn't going to win you a race (unless you're heavy and it's not a hilly race)
  18. I'm pretty sure the dudes winning races in SA will have a higher FTP than 5 w/kg Also, depends on the course and the weight of the rider right? A light guy with FTP of 5 w/kg will get dropped by a heavier rider at 5 w/kg on a flatter course, and most of the races don't have real long, steep climbs
  19. Were you awake when they inserted the chest drain? I punctured my right lung too. Inserting the chest drain while awake was the worst pain of my life.
  20. Why would they have gotten a shock, did I miss something?
  21. In peak traffic, I'd say it's pretty safe to get on the N1 to get to marine drive to bypass that Paarden Eiland section. I actually did that yesterday about 5:30pm. Might have been a bit different if I hadn't.
  22. Thanks for your concern Tubehunter, she's back in Argentina at the moment
  23. This was mine, last time I did it (a year old now) What would the FTP be? Can you determine that from that data? Dying to get a power meter. Waiting in anticipation for a deal on the hub
  24. Thanks man. It's been all good. Should be discharged tomorrow. Not often you get to chill in bed all weekend watching TV and being waited on
