  1. The very first thing I would replace is the shifters. Deore to XT shifter transplant will make a HUGE difference and you can keep your SLX RD and Deore FD for a while. Be sure to replace the sleeves and cables and make it continues sleeves at the same time. Me thinks it is better to replace the brakes as a set (I think they are sold that way as well). My 2c worth. Enjoy the tinkering. That is part of the fun...
  2. Can the mobii load tracks that you create from Google earth and does it have virtual partner. These are the 2 features I use a lot and like on the 705.
  3. Does anybody have a tracklog or GPS recording of the first day of this event? I am planning a MTB ride from Beit Bridge to Cape town and would like to enter PMB from the Table Mountain (Village just outside PMB) side without having to ride to much narrow tar roads.
  4. Who will be the best place in Pretoria to go to for a Pro Setup?
  5. I ride Saguaro 2.2 UST Back and Barro UST 2.3 front. Brilliant! They are a beast to pull over the rim - XT tubeless rims.
  6. I use the VP on the 305 and 705 and yes, it is the ultimate rabbit/carrot. That guy can really make you work hard.
  7. Google for tcx converter. It can convert between a good couple of GPS formats.
  8. I am also around 81 - 83 kg and love my shimanos. No hassles so far. They've been around lesotho at least 2 times
  9. I just use a tiny bit of bepanthen (used by mothers on small babies' bums). Works for me.
  10. That is why I train on the hardtail - My training/racing ratio is probably 10/1.
  11. I ride both and when I ride longer distances (touring around Lesotho) I ride the dual. Training is exclusively done on the hardtail. To me it is mainly a comfort thing and not so much control or speed difference.
  12. I am not excited about the set i've put on the back wheel. They tend to loose ALL grip when whet and need to warm up substantially before the grip comes back. Nearly got caught out a few times on a lap race where there was a substantial water puddle just before a dropoff with a sharp right at the bottom... Fortunately the front pads were still shimano pads.
  13. I think when you "puncture" the bubble from the outsiade the latex acts like a glue and bonds the outside to the next layer.
  14. I have a crossmark on my hardtail on the front that has done the freedom trail, and then I used (still is) it for training. Total kms done - 8252 - to date and still going strong. NO bubbles. 2 plugs. Sealant - puncture free - a black bottle with grey liquid inside. It lasts? I dont know. I put fresh stuff in when the liquid that comes out of the puncture hole doesn't seal but resembles water. (I guess about 6 months)
  15. Did you also miss out on the Sani2C this year? How about we ride from a place called St Bernards Peak Hotel to Rhodes on Sani2C weekend. Wed 3 Mar 2010 - Drive to St. Bernard's Peak Hotel Thur 4 Mar - Ride to Matatiele Fri 5 Mar - Ride to Melekholonyane Sat 6 Mar - Ride to Vuvu Sun 7 Mar - Either ride to Rhodes or Drive home Mail me for more detail strydomi@iafrica.com
  16. With a few minor undulations like Lehana and Steteyns thrown in for good measure
  17. Maxxis Crossmark UST or Geax Saguaro UST
  18. Awesome race. Looks like the batch start thing was a bit new to SS timing. They had a few issues. Hope they can sort it out before Sabie.
  19. Truvative bolts come with a washer for this purpose. I use them on the syncro side of my MTB Tandem. Not easy to find. All are normally the shimano type with the hex (allen) head on the one side and the stupid slotted head on the other. The truvative ones are 2 different sized hex heads, and they come standard with the washer/spacer.
  20. Indestructible. I train on a set - done about 30 000km. They are quite narrow (anti snakebite system) and I run them Ghetto tubeless.
  21. Geax serves me well
  22. What is a TACX VR? I know what a Garmin gpx file is. Got very many of those...
  23. Ghetto - works every time - Did a freedom challenge with ghetto front and back - no problems.
  24. TITS - Time In The Saddle - I have never used shammy cream or any other guey stuff wile i ride. I use Fisan paste (baby bum cream) after the ride if I chfed a bit, but after 2 Epics and a Freedom Challenge I am still lucky and have not had a saddle sore yet.
  25. The three times I came across Gost shifting was loose cassettes and a worn back derailieur with lots of lateral play. But it seem that this has been taken care of, so it must be play or movement somewhere. Check your rear triangle for play as well.
