  1. Ride it until it's kapoet and replace with sunrace 11-46?
  2. Any comment on the SLX M7000 1x11? Looking at changing my wife's XO 2x10 setup. For R3600 you can buy the upgrade kit (11-46) plus a SLX 32T crankset. That sounds hard to beat...
  3. Here you will find a long list of accommodation options in the area: http://lra-roth.touristx.de/web/tx_vm_liste.php?c=1008&g_id=1008
  4. I contacted at least 30 people to get a spot in Roth, but nothing materialised. We ended up staying in Worzeldorf (17km north of Roth, close to Nurmberg) where we found a great house that could accommodate the 9 of us. We managed to get by, but logistically it would be much easier staying in Roth.
  5. Gummibear and Ewep, give me a shout if you have any questions. We just returned from Roth. 5 Saffa friends competed. It was everything we imagined, and more...
  6. Am I on the the Retro (Road) bicycle thread?
  7. Ek hou van hoe jy dink! Disc brake adapter? I didn't know this exists.
  8. Hello Ladies & Gents I need some advice slash guidance. My first bike was a Alu GT Zaskar Expert All Terra (probably 2008 model, so not classified as retro) and it changed my world. Since then I was in love with the Triple Triangle Design. Obviously, I made the mistake of selling it. For the past few months I have been keeping an eye out for a older model Zaskar to buy. Not sure to do what with, but I'll come back to that. I didn't expect what was to come over my path. Long story short, I bought a 1997 Gt Xizang titanium on OLX. Attached is a photo of the same frame (I will post pics later). The choice weapon of some of the original Team GT racing! It is a thing of beauty. The previous owner attempted to restore the bike, but it was an half-arse job, or he lost interest or something. Most parts are original or at least "date-correct" and in good condition and the frame is in great condition. So, I need to decide what direction I am going with this... 1. Restore it to the original (or as close as) and cruise with it on Sundays? 2. Use the parts that are still good, and replace the others with modern ones and ride it, hard. Current Situation. Frame: As mentioned, great condition, seems like the Original decals. There is a small section of fine paint (spray) that came onto the frame probably while other parts were sprayed: Fork: From what I can tell it is a RockShox Judy, but it has been resprayed very poorly. (Looks like someone with a spraycan and some babbelas-shakes). Seems like the original colour could have been gold? XTR Crank - Great condition XTR brakes and shifters - Good condition with a bolt or two missing FR: XTR perfect RD: Shimano 8 spd Dura-ace road bike, I think. Wheels - Mavic SUP rims, decent spokes, aftermarket hubs with a big crack in the rear hub body. The rest are all cheapish aftermarket components. I will post pictures ASAP. In the meantime, some pics of what potential the bike holds. Please advise me what you would do in this situation. Thanks.
  9. The moment I read your reply, my face turned into the sad/ashamed emoticon. Yes, that was the last proper tour. I've done some one or two day bikepacks, but nothing close. I do however have some plans up my sleeve...
  10. This thread makes my skin tingle. In Feb 2015 I finished a project in Port Elizabeth and decided to take the scenic route home...So I jumped on my MTB and cycled 1100km to Parys. Stayed mostly on gravel roads, and slept in B&B's and backpackers. Probably the coolest 8 days of my life.
  11. Hi Furbz I see you are looking at Carbon, but this is also worth a look: http://www.bridgecycles.co.za/CANNONDALE-FLASH29-LEFTY I understand that the feel of Carbon vs Allu differs, but the weight difference on these specific frames are extremely small. This is a seriously ridiculous price. Not sure what sizes they have left? Oh, and on your title question. Cannondale. Obviously. Cheers
  12. Good morning Hubbers There was a bike-jacking this morning at around 07h00 on the Cycle lane close to Sunset Beach. It happened just past the Engen where the lane narrows to cross the bridge. The events: Guy was cycling alone and passing a ‘pedestrian’ the jacker started at him with a knife. He fought back but let the bike go. We (two of us) were about 70m away from them when the jacker started riding in the road towards us, we moved into the rode. The jacker hesitated and went over the bars. We stopped approaching cars & the first car was security. The jacker jumped of the bike and over the bridge into the vlei heading into the ‘binneland’. The victim’s name is Simon. Iron of a little guy. Got a stab wound of about a cm in his shoulder/neck area. We rode with him to tableview where he stays. He’s okay and he has his bike back. Here is the kicker: He bought his bike Yesterday!!!! Please be vigilant. This is crazy. I won’t be able to respond to this thread as I have to go register for a race now. Be safe.
