  1. You could catch Teak Place before it closes on the 9th Northern Farm is a good option and close to Fourways Mtn Bike park in Bryanston (not for 4 hours though)
  2. Haven't ridden at Groenkloof, but ride twice a week at the bike park because it's on the way home from work and is really convenient for a quick hour's ride in the middle of the week. More than an hour or so and it starts to get boring. The new loops that have just been cut are good and provide some more variety. In terms of the berms, they aren't too big at speed, but I prefer the flat corners to replicate the typical single track you would find in a race.
  3. It has arrived in my postbox
  4. D'arcs are great, still have my pair with four options for lenses. But the pain of deciding in advance what lenses will be needed on the day made me move to photochromic lenses.
  5. Bernard Volschenk (optometrist at ASG) quoted me R4000 for single and R5000 for multifocal prescription after I enquired yesterday on replacing my Rydon standard lenses with prescription lenses
  6. Are you sure on the 1.8m? That's not exactly short?
  7. I know you are looking for a hardtail, but my wife has just acquired a full suss XS Giant Trance X4 - she's 1.56m tall and it fits rather nicely. The Giant distributors still had one XS in stock last week at a good price
  8. According to this link, they offer a 35% off RRP crash replacement guarantee.
  9. Mike's Bikes has one at around 15K hanging on the wall
  10. A close, convenient place to ride midweek is the Toyota cycle park in Bryanston.
  11. I've just (last week) had a set of wheels built up with Hope hubs, DT Swiss spokes and ZTR Arch rims. So far they feel lighter and stiffer than the original wheels (Giant P-XC2) and time will tell if they're stronger. Had them built because I bent and cracked the lip on the Giant rim. Of course the Hope freewheel is much noisier than the original Shimano.
  12. I can't compare to any of the Magicshine range as I haven't tried those, but I bought one for the Ride Mag 24hr in April and used it quite often subsequently for night racing. I felt the performance was good, especially at the price. The light was bright enough to handle the single track sections with quite a good beam pattern. I've used both the helmet and bar mount and both held up well, with no vibration problems.
  13. Running it on the front wheel of my XTC 29er. When I changed to tubeless, I went to a Crossmark UST on the back wheel because the sidewall thickness on the Aspen made me nervous. So far so good, no punctures from the Aspen as yet
  14. Looking at Hope Pro 2 hubs with ZTR Arch rims, DT Swiss spokes
  15. Thanks Johan, Took the rim to Mike's Bikes this morning. They took the dent out, but the rim is cracked at the dent so it's a temporary fix only so I can ride Logwood tomorrow. Will go and see them during the week for a forced upgrade but
  16. I managed to put a dent in my back rim sometime in the last week or so - the question now is: 1) Is it OK to use? It was still holding air (until I stripped the tyre off) 2) Is it repairable? I've entered for the Logwood Classic 70km on Sunday - will this make the distance? FWIW, it's a Giant PCX-2 29er Thanks
  17. Nothing in the post, but also haven't seen it in the shops either
  18. Hi All, Having lurked for a while on the board, here goes with my first post... My son has outgrown his Raleigh Strike 20" bike. I've looked at the Silverback Atomic in 24" which looks like a good buy, any other suggestions?
