Whilst levying the fines is a good thing, it will not have any benefit for us. The retailers are now all hiding behind the exchange rate to increase prices. Nothing really comes our way!

Red Zone, you last comment is spot on! However, contributing to that attitude is some of cyclists who do not comply with traffic regulations. Many motorists say that if cyclists do not adhere to the regulations then why should they show respect. Maybe adherence to the regulations may help to bring about more tolerance and that should help bring down the accident rate between motorists and cyclists.

Towards the end of 2012 my road frame (Advanced TCR) developed a crack and I my insurance consultant arranged for the bike to be inspected by a Giant retailer in Cape Town. The retailer was most helpful and contacted Dragons Sport to confirm the crack. It was within days that I was informed of the suitable stock available. After a week, they delivered a replacement frame to the retailer. I very satisfied with the service of both retailer and Dragons Sport in resolving my problem.

All roads out of Century City during peak hours are very congested and drivers are extremely impatient to get out of there. The way they change lanes make it very unsafe to cycle in that area at peak hours. However, there is no excuse for reckless/negligent driving. There are also many commuter cyclists coming out of the area. The two main entrances/exits at Montague Gardens and Sable Road are especially bad. There is also never traffic police around to observe the bad behaviour of motorists. It is always sad when any cyclists is hurt or die in an accident. We need to be cautious but must carry on!

Wish both riders a speedy recovery from their severe injuries, especially Jevandre. Too many times drivers say that they did not see the cyclists. How do they look out when they drive? There is no excuse when cyclists are riding single file and in the shoulder of the road, irrespective of the speed they are going at. Motor vehicles overtake at speed without running into the car they are passing. Why hit a cyclists? Maybe the law should take this negligence more serious. As cyclists we just have to continue to be vigilant when out on the road. Irrespective of these accidents, we still have a place out on the road.

On many of the funrides I have asked riders not to toss the sachets and wrappers in the environment. Some apologised and others told me to f... off, as they were not carrying the sticky empty sachet in their back-pockets. The attitude of some cyclists create a general negative attitude to all cyclist. We participate in a healthy sport but do unhealthy things to our environment.

This morning around 10h30 I came past an accident on Marine Drive, Paarden Eiland. Police, ambulances and tow-trucks standing around. A VW Golf (Chico-type) apparently hit cyclist. Windscreen completely smashed and roof bent. Could not see the injured but was told by two bystanders that it was a cyclist. Car standing in the righthand lane and paramedics at work. Did anyone else come across this accident?

Would certainly help with planning the route for the breakfast ride either Saturday or Sunday morning!

Hi Abbas, I wish you well with your recovery from injuries. Also hope you recover your bike - great machine! Such an experience stays with you for a while but I am sure you will overcome it. I was also attacked by two guys on Koeberg Road a number of years back. Fortunately, I managed to get away with just bruises from being hit with a roof baton. Don't let it stop you. Stay safe!

A friend of mine experienced the same with two specialized romin saddles. His was less than a year old and both were replaced. Could be a manufacturing fault causing the carbon saddles to crack.

Speedy recovery to the injured cyclists. It is amazing that some motorists will not take a few seconds to ensure that it is safe to open their doors when parking. Has happened to me a few years back on Koeberg Road, Milnerton. Well done to Swift for their generosity and Cycle Factory for wanting to contribute. It is also amazing to have people like Paul and Kelly around.

I can attest to the fact that there must be quite a number of cyclists who owe their lives to wearing a good helmet. A few years back I also had a nasty accident in a funride. The rider in front of the bunch hit an oil patch and went down. As we were heading downwind at the time, the speed was high and a number of us were involved in the crash. I ended up with a deflated lung, 5 broken ribs and concussion. At the hospital I was told that my helmet saved me from more severe head injuries. I still observe some 'macho' riders out on the road without a helmet. Tried to talk one and was told to f... off. Some people spend huge amounts of money on components and not the same on a good helmet. Keep safe guys.

I wonder in which country the saddles are going to pop up! The robbers are certainly not intending to sponsor a racing team from Europe. Watch out for shops that will run specials on San Marco saddles.
