  1. I really want to do it this year, but I am worried about not having time for the required training. I am doing my second 70.3 in Jan and the training is already a lot to manage between running my own business, spending time with wife and daughter etc. How much more training is needed to just complete IM compared to 70.3?
  2. Yeah, I did the PE one last year as well. It was fun and relaxed. I plan to take easy and just enjoy the morning out.
  3. This one on the 23rd: http://www.zports.co.za/Home.aspx?EventKey=f3e13fd0-9c62-44d8-b0ed-d40d0d041a51 Sprint Triathlon, just to get some transition and sea swim in race conditions practice. Thanks, I will have a look on Google Maps.
  4. I will be in PE for a few days before Christmas for a triathlon. I don't know PE that well, so which route can I use for some decent 3 hr rides while I am there?
  5. My swim is on par with last year, bike should be stronger and run definitely not as strong, but this year I am running without ITB.
  6. Both. Very excited for the whole race day experience and nervous for the training that needs to be done. Training is going well. The last week or two's rain made cycling training difficult. So I am a little behind on that. My progress to date: Swim 70% Cycle: 65% Run: 60% Goal is 85%+ by end of Dec. I can do all the distances, now its putting it all together. So I am focusing a lot on brick sessions over the next 3 weeks.
  7. I am not sure how to approach the hills training, like you said, without hills. Currently I am doing hills work in the gym on a stationary bike. They have got those preprogrammed programs. But somehow this is not the same as being out on the bike. So other suggestions would help a lot.
  8. What kind hill training would you suggest? I live in probably the flattest part of the country. Those hills caught me out last year.
  9. The last 3 weeks have been good. I have stuck to my program except for missing a swim workout here and there, but I am hoping I can get that going from next week. I am taking a recovery week this week. So far then, but December will be a critical month.
  10. The bike course is not easy and not "piss". I got caught out by it last year. I went out to fast for the first 45km, thinking that the next 45km is down hill. By 40kms my legs were tired and the second half did not go as fast as I hoped. So a word of advise, do not go out to fast and rather ride within yourself then you will be able to take advantage of the "down hill" after 45km. Probably 10km/h faster that the first 45km, depending on the wind. I would say probably half an hour quicker than my Argus time would be acceptable, considering that its 20k shorter, but no drafting is allowed and there is the small matter of a half marathon to run after the bike.
  11. Try this website http://www.triradar.com/ under trajning plans They have workouts for any distance. I have been using them since last year and they are very detialed.
  12. I had one of those days on the bike yesterday. I had two punctures within the first 5 kms and and after that I tried to make up for lost time (mostly on my own) and with about 40km to go my legs started cramping and I just had to nurse myself to the finish for a 4:30 finish. Definitely one of my worst races to date. Except for this, I must say I still enjoyed the race. I hope they keep this route for future races.
  13. Same here. Running is really tough to get going. I am going to keep my distances between 5-7km for the next 2-3 weeks, with a 10k thrown in next weekend and see how I feel by end of November. Then I might start increasing the distances. I guess its a case of listening to your body.
  14. 11 Weeks to go. How is your training going guys? I would say my progress looks like this: Swim: 65% Bike: 55% Run: 20% of where I want to be by 20 Jan. So lots of hard work lying ahead during Nov/Dec, but at least I have been sticking to my training program for the past 2 weeks and I am still slowly building on my run distances.
  15. I am getting a little worried about my training. I am way behind compared to last year this time. It is taking a lot longer that I thought to get myself (and my knee) running fit after my knee operation. I am currently on 5km as my longest run! I do not want to force the distances/speed and end up with another injury. I am hoping to do a 10km race in 2 weeks time. Swimming is going ok and I am at 2-3 sessions a week. Cycling, at this stage, is limited to indoor training due to weather and work commitments. I am hoping to increase my training sessions substantially from next week, otherwise I am not sure I will be ready come 20 Jan.
  16. I just entered for my second 70.3. I only started running/walking last week after my knee operation. So I am currently on 3.5km, alternating between running and walking. I am hoping that I will have enough time to get running fit before January. Do you guys think I have enough time to slowly build up to 21km? I have been swimming and cycling at a very low intensity, so those should be ok.
  17. No its not ok to post David Kramer's shoes, ever, anywhere. Those are legendary and should not be made fun of. Lets open a new thread for that as well. Maybe I ll complain about that as well to the moderators. Karma, sorry man, but it seems you are the vark in die verhaal according to some hubbers. Anyway, ride savely this weekend guys. And take photos
  18. So open another thread about Karma taking a photo while driving. The point of THIS thread is the roadies that is in the wrong.
  19. 2:45 marathon. Dangle, luckily you are not running against this guy.
  20. Its been about 4 weeks since my op and I am cycling every second day and walking on the other days. No pain while cycling (no resistance and high cadence) and I am going to attempt a 30k+ ride this weekend. It however is still sore when walking up stares and I tried to run a short distance this morning, but couldn't as it was to sore. I will go on walking for another week or so before giving the run another try. After how long were you able to run?
  21. I am using training programs from these websites: http://www.triradar.com/ and http://triathlonplussa.co.za/category/training-advice/ They specifically have programs for half-and full Ironman distances
  22. Last year was my first and it was an awesome experience. I have entered for next year, but I have not started training yet due to the ITB release operation I had. I can start cycling 3-5 km from tomorrow, increasing as the knee feels better. I need to see how that goes before starting to run. I am starting full swim training next week. So I plan to be training 100% by mid/end October. Its probably not ideal to start that late, but I am still hoping for a sub 6. If the recovery goes slower, then I will just go to finish.
  23. Its been 5 days since the op, so I could take of the bandages today. My knee is still swollen and obviously still stiff, but not that sore. It is still sore to walk and bend the knee, but it seems to be feeling better every day. It kind of feels like the ITB pain I used to get, just not as intense. I cannot wait to start training (very slowly). The dr said I should be able to cycle after about 10 days, but I am not going to rush things. How did your op go?
  24. I have to agree, it is expensive for a one day race and prize money probably not that great, but no one forces anyone to enter. You know the entry fee and if you think you have a chance to get a podium, surely you would find out what the prize money is and base your decision to enter on that. No use crying over it after the fact. I will be there next year after being unable to go this year, regardless of the fee, its always a great adventure with loads of stories afterwards.
  25. Its day 3 and it is still very stiff, but not that sore anymore. After how long were you able to bend your knee?
