  1. I am on my third pair of Zoomflys and average about 650-700km on a pair
  2. I first need to get 70.3 EL out of the way in 2 weeks, then it is full focus on IM
  3. #96
  4. I took a break from it last year, so decided to give a go again. This week is still a hard and long training week, but from next week slowly starting to decrease volumes
  5. Its very quite here given how close we are to EL. How is everyone's training going?
  6. Weird how things work out sometimes. Last year I decided to take a break from triathlon in 2019 and make Comrades 2019 my main goal and I started training hard. Second week in January I stepped into a pot hole while running. Ligament damage. 8 weeks without running, so the end of my Comrades goal. I obviously was very negative about this. I decided I would enter for 70.3 Durban. Did lots of cycling, swimming, strength work while not being able to run. And then got running going when ankle healed. Body felt in great shape by 70.3 Durban time. Did the race and qualified for 70.3 Worlds in Nice in September. So as you said don't let injuries get you down
  7. My Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit's are nearing the end of their lifespan. I cannot seem to find any online. Sportsmans Warehouse has, but not my number. Does anyone know where I can find these guys. I have found them brilliant running shoes and do not want to switch back to the Pegasus at this point.
  8. How long until you are running again? I sprained my ankle last week, stepping into a pot hole. 3-4 weeks without running. So lots of swimming and strength training in my future
  9. I haven't posted here in a while. Last couple of seasons Ironman/70.3 was my main focus. This year I decided its time to tick that Comrades box. But since July I have been struggling with injuries. Before these injuries, I have had no injuries for probably 3 years+. First I injured a tendon in my foot, which took about 2 months to heal. Now my ITB started with issues. So I have lost about 2.5 half months' run training (still keeping swimming and cycling going). The problem is, I have Soweto marathon coming up at the beginning of November and I am seriously undertrained. My fitness is fine, but time on legs not so much. Time goals have gone out the window. I am now considering if its actually worth doing it and risking more injuries by going into a marathon underprepared.
  10. I took of from running, stretched, did functional strength exercises etc over the past 2-3 weeks and my ITB is much better, but I have lost about 2 months training and have decided to call it quits and not do Two Oceans. I am sure I will be able to push through on the day, but am worried that it would just make it worse and derail the rest of my season. All is not lost as I now have a decent base to work from going forward. Time to shift my focus to triathlon training.
  11. Sorry didn't see your post It is a deep dull pain at the side of my leg on the ITB band, about 10 cm up from the knee. The longer I run the more the pain until its gets to a point where is not possible. The pain spreads to the lower part the ITB and quad.
  12. Yip my physio gave me some exercises to do, after dishing out the pain this morning, with a few hundred needles directly into the ITB and glutes.
  13. Yes I think that is good advice. I am going to rest the two weeks and then make a call and maybe get some swim training in.
  14. This will be my first OMTOM. I have done 340km since January and my longest was a marathon and I have done about 4 x 25 km+ long runs
  15. My training has come to a complete stop. My ITB is acting up and I have been instructed to not run for the next 2 weeks. This after taking off last week as well. I am worried I am not going to have enough time to get up to fitness for 2 Oceans. If I can run again in two weeks' time, that leaves me 3 weeks to Oceans, having lost a month of training. Is this still doable or am I better of writing Oceans off and focusing on getting the ITBS healed?
  16. I have hit the wall with my training. For the past 2 weeks I have had no energy on runs and my heart rate is much higher than usual. As an example I usually hit z4 from 4:40/km, but for the last few weeks I reach z4 at about 5:30/km. I can't even do 4:40/km at this stage. I don't think it can be overtraining as I have been limiting my runs to about 3 (interval, tempo, long) runs a week due to a really busy work schedule the last month or so. I did a 21k race on Saturday and imploded with 10km to go and in the end I was about 11 mins of my best. What's up with my body? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Does anybody know if the Germiston 5150 is happening this year? Still nothing on the website.
  19. I need some advice on a goal marathon time. I have entered the Cape Town Marathon, which will be my first stand alone marathon. The ultimate goal is the 2 Oceans and maybe Comrades, depending on how the training progresses. I have been doing triathlon for the past 6 years (sprint, olympic, half and full). I am finding it difficult to decide on a realistic goal time and therefore the pacing for my training program. Current times for 21k: 1:40 and Ironman 42.2k: 4:30. I currently run 4 times a week and also do some bike/swim sessions. Runs include easy, threshold, interval and LSD's. According to the race prediction time calculators on the web my goal time would be +-3:35, which in my mind seems optimistic, which would mean that I would run about an hour faster than my IM marathon time. I have heard a lot of stories of people underestimating their first marathon and ending up with a horrible first experience.
  20. Comrades 2017 was on my bucket list for next year, before this weekend's race. One of my friends ended up in the ICU unconscious having suffered 2 seizers on her way to the hospital. She collapsed +- 200m from the end with her first seizer. She trained well, was in good shape etc etc. Dr says on the day her body could not handle the stress. It makes me think twice if it is worth the risk.
  21. Are there any of you guys doing Ironman and Comrades next year? Ironman is on 10 April. It was my goal to do both, but after considering the advice from some experienced Comrades/IM competitors, I have abandoned that idea and am only now focusing on Ironman. I have not done a Comrades yet, but have done Ironman, so I am a little disappointed that I am not going to do my first Comrades, but I feel it is the better to focus on one of these big events in 2016 and then make 2017 my running focus year.

    Xterra Pezula

Yes, it will give me a huge advantage over everyone else if its wet and muddy

    Xterra Pezula

I have entered a few events in the Knysna Oyster Fesival during July and the full Xterra is one of them. Can anyone share some experience about this event; how difficult, technical etc. Since Ironman in PE I have not done much training wise: a few MTB rides, short runs (longest 8k TT) and a few swims. I am starting to worry that I might be taking the difficulty of the Xterra a little too lightly. I don't even have trail running shoes.
  24. I am glad I listened to some of the experienced guys and did not enter the 56k. As predicted by most I have come down with a flu virus and feel horrible. Flu symptoms and sore body from doing my first Ironman on Sunday makes for the flu from hell.
