  1. I am back from my surgery. In at 8 this morning and out of hospital @11. Dr says everything went well, now I need to rest and can start cycling after about 10 days. Did any of you guys go for physio after the surgery? Dr says it might be a good idea after a week or so.
  2. I can also vouch for Terry from Xterra, great service and good value for money wetsuit as well.
  3. Thanks for the feedback guys. I have also heard only positive comments about the results. Sounds like January 2013 IM 70.3 is then not an unrealistic goal.
  4. After one and a half years of struggling with ITBS and having tried everything, except surgery, I am going under the knife on Friday. It has just gotten to a point where I cannot run more than 3km and bearly cycle for an hour. I am a little worried about surgery, for obvious reasons. Are there any guys out there who has had this surgery and what has the results being. Also how slowly should I start training again given that I need at least four months to be ready for Ironman 70.3 in January.
  5. +1 Seems pretty clear to me as well.
  6. That Prolotherapy looks interesting. Thanks for the link. I may as well give it a go. I am not to keen on the ITB surgery.
  7. Does anybody know someone in the Bloemfontein area that operates on knees and that is any good? I have been struggling with ITBS for about a year now and I need to see someone to help sort this out. I have done the stretching, physio, rest, leg exercises etc route and nothing has helped. There seems to be quite a few respected drs around the country, but the distances will make it difficult to use one of these.
  8. I have to confess. I have been a huge fan of LA and for what he has accomplished in his sporting and personal life. I have secretly hoped (and ignored all the accusations) that he has not been doping and that he was indeed a superhuman sportsman. But I don't know anymore... Why not just come out and defend himself and prove his innocence. And it is a crap excuse that he will not be judged fairly. That is why he pays his lawyers millions of dollars. It will be a very sad day if he is found guilty. Like him or not, he has made a huge contribution to cycling and I thought we would do the same for triathlon.
  9. What??
  10. I guess then Greg Bennet is also doing the "dreaded word" as he also broke the record and is over 40. I am going to assume he is a great athlete and that he is training very hard. Seems to be the case from the interviews I have seen with him.
  11. http://ironman.com/e...9#axzz1wo4gZ02a He seems to be improving with every race. It is going to be interesting to see how he will go in his first Ironman in France later this month.
  12. Has anyone done the update to 4.2? I am currently still on 3.2, because I have just ignored all other updates as I am always worried that with a new update comes new problems. Are there any new enhancements or/and problems with the new update? I am just worried that I am missing out on improvements by still being on a very old version. I have checked the Garmin forum, but could not really find any info.
  13. I am also interested to enter for 2013. What was the entry fee for 2012?
  14. Clint I promise you there are no blatant inacurracies in the limitations that I listed. There wasnt a heart rate monitor available in my area and I had to order a specific one at a hefty price. With regards to the sunlight readibility, that specific phone, an Htc, was not great(my current SUPER AMOLED screen would probably work better) and I think it is a limitation that the OP should be aware of. The OP asked for opinions and I gave mine having used both devices for an extended period. Not just for a weekend ride. From my experience and for my needs a smartphone cannot compare to a device specifically developed for a cycling. I think this gives the OP a good idea what to consider when making his decision, wouldnt you agree?
  15. You probably have two options: Smartphone and garmin I started out using my smartphone and it worked well untill I started cycling more and longer. It has a few limitations: - Battery life was a major issue - Possible damage due to rain, mud, dust or the occassional fall - You have to take it out of your jersey pocket to see the data or - get a specific bike mount and cell casing which was not available - No heart rate monitor - Difficult to read the display in direct sunlight After some research I got the garmin FR310xt because I run and swim as well. It is superior to my smartphone in every way. So if you can live with the limitations of the smartphone it is a viable option. But I would recommend either the garmin edge 500 or 800 if you want a cycling specific device.
  16. Drag Reduction System. On a predefined section of each race circuit (usually on a long straight), if a car is within 1 second behind another, its back wing can be "opened" which reduces drag and effectively increases straight line speed allowing cars to overtake easier.

    Silverback Range

I only have a Silverback road bike, so can not comment on MTB. They are a well known brand, is reliable and real value for money. Compare components on a Silverback with other bikes in the same price range. They compare really well.
  18. Put "uninformed cyclist" in the place of "moron" if that makes it sound better. The fact that he was riding without lights/reflective clothes and putting his life in danger is the actual point being made.

    2012 Ironman

When the organisers deem it to be to dangerous to swim in the sea. It was almost on the cards for the 70.3, but luckily the weather changed in a matter of 2 days and we had perfect weather. Don't worry about the weather. It is one of the things on race day that you can not control.

    2012 Ironman

I don't think there is much chance of them showing it live. Probably only a highlight package after a month or so, as with the 70.3 in January. You can follow updates on the Ironmanlive website: http://ironmanlive.com/updates.php?race=southafrica&year=2012

    2012 Ironman

I so wish I could be there! Good luck to everyone taking part.
  22. +1 for Terry and Xterra
  23. Jungle oats bars and 32GI Chews
  24. I am currently using the two piece and I also found that I wear a L top with a M short. Ok I will stick to the two piece then. The peeing reason is reason enough.
  25. Which is more comfortable for long distance triathlons like half distance IM and full IM events?
