  1. Hi Guys, I think that the idea of a workshop would go down well with those of us that like to know a little more about what and why we are doing certain types of training... One question: How do you interpret the PMC when using a combination of HR & Power or cant you? In this instance should you rather just use the Stress chart in GC?
  2. Anyone know where the results will be posted?
  3. HI Guys Has anyone had experience of the Assos repair service. I have holes in two sets of bibs and before I try and get them stitched locally I was wondering if anyone had tried the serivice. Is so what sort of turn around time did you have? Thanks
  4. Agree fully, then they close the exit to the parking under the road so you have to walk for 45min with tired kids back to the parking, right through the 40km route. How people didn't get ridden into when crossing the road is amazing. Really not thought through. Won't be back.
  5. A few years ago went through the same process of losing weight. Even now when I train hard I do get hunger pangs often. The trick is what you eat. Whilst your main meals seem to be sound in that you are eating low GI Carbs with some protein, you snacks seem to be predominately fruit which have a very high natural sugar level and therefore will usually be metabolised fairly quickly. Nothing wrong with having the snack but try changing them to protein or a low GI Carb. I found biltong or chicken strips worked well. The protein will help you feel fuller for longer. Check the fat content, fat has almost 3 times as many calories/g as carbs or protein and therefore you can eat more of a specific low fat food source that you would if you had food with high fat content, therefore, you essentially you can eat more low fat foods relative to the quantity of high fat for the same nutritional value.
  6. 29er struggles to fit into it. I got a Spez Epic 29er. Need to remove bars. Back derailleur pushes against the rear of the box - you end up removing it to protect it. Not sure if it is related but the 1st time I used it (didnt remove the derailleur) the delailleur broke at the housing (XO) on the second ride down at the coast. Not sure if it was the box but and it could be a coincidence. It definitely doest fit as easily as it says on the packaging and web, unless I am doing something wrong. In saying that though, the baggage handlers at OR Tambo said that they far prefer the bike boxes to the bags....if that makes a difference. Once closed, it is secure and hardy. It is large, and doesn't fit into a normal sedan as easily as it says on the website. I have an A4 and cant get it in the car. I have to put the seats down in my wifes Golf. Besides that, all good.
  7. Got the same issue. Running X0 2X10. Not sure what the problem is. My older chain was worn and have replaced that and it seems to have helped but not stopped completely. Not sure if it is a tensioning issue.
  8. Haven't used the XTR but the R1 are awesome. Only downside its most lbs' don't carry spares but easily resolved through CRC. Bit pricy if you hard on you're brakes. R250 per pad for sintered replacEments. (R500). Stopping power is good. Also use only 1 fingerand never had reason to question the stopping distance. (especially after a steep decent)
  9. HI Guys I currently have a Giro Ionos which needs replacing so am looking for a new helmet. Must be light, which all of these are although Rudy seem slightly heavier than the other two. The Spez seems a little more expensive but I haven't used Spez or Rudy so cant compare on fit, comfort longevity etc to the Giro. so any comments to guide would be appreciated.
  10. Can you ride to Clearwater from Southbroom. Plan would be leave early ride up to Clearwater do a loop or two depending on how long it takes, ride back? Any idea length of ride?
  11. Just gone through the same thing. Used an older Irda for some time, then laptop got stolen. Bought another generic irda and it wont work with windows7. Ended up having to buy the polar one...Expensive for what it is, at least it works now.
  12. Hey Scotty Evanscycles has them for just over R1k. 15% Disc till Tues and no delivery fee. It may be worthwhile.
  13. I am busy looking into bring a Spez in. Have managed to arrange the shipping. How did you manage to get the VAT and the duty issues resolved, or didn't you. Paying on the full amount kills the viability of it.
  14. I am doing the Epic next year and that is the main consideration. Entered for a number of longer events, stage etc so that would be the primary reason. The Scott is a great bike but am considering what I am doing over the next year thought that the 29er may be the way to go.
  15. HI Guys Bought a Scott Spark 20 (2011) 26er in Dec. Full Carbon, Spec as per the website. Was tempting myself down at the LBS and the store owner stated that he would trade the Scott for a new Giant Anthem X 29er with a minimal cash difference. What to do? Scott is Carbon, awesome machine, lockout front and back but I have an opportunity to get into the 29er game at a very limited spend. The Scott when bought would have been much more expensive, but groupset, breaks etc all the same (Full XT, Dynasys) What you guys reckon, keep the carbon Scott 26er or trade for the Alu Giant 29er? (as an aside, I haven't ridden the Giant yet)
  16. Also got one. Whoohoo...now time to get serious with the traiing..I reckon speak with your partners. Once they realise they have a guaranteed spot they would be foolish not to do it if they going to do it the following year. You will just need to be persuasive.
  17. Having my plate out on Thursday. How long before you guys were riding again? Took the 6 weeks off after the fall and dont want to wait that long again?
  18. I bought a Spark 20 in Nov. Its back at Probike with a cracked BB> only rode the bike 4 times so this does seem to be a problem with frame.
  19. Problems with the wet bezel has been resolved in the new 410 https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=83274&ra=true
  20. Thanks Kevin...that does look attractive...
  21. Thanks guys, have been phoning around and that is how I came up with the two. As you are all aware it is very subjective. Mate and I deciding to get off the road. Dont have too much experince with MTB but ride ave 4-5 days a week on the road. Dont want to make mistakes that were made when first purchasing the road bikes some years ago so tying to skill up
  22. Thanks. I did see that and am toying with the idea. You would still need pedals so pricing gap gets a little bigger....decisions decisions.
  23. Hi Guys Looking at getting into the MTB game. Willing to spend approx R25-R27K. Been looking at the Scott Spark 30 or the Giant Anthem X1. Giant slightly more expensive. Looking for a litte impartial advice as to what the better value for money bike is. Alternatively other suggestions welcome. Thanks
  24. Brad is my cousin, he is currently in Milpark. Seriously broken leg, but more concerning are the internal injuries. From what I understand after speaking to his brother they are operating this morning to acertain how serious the liver and kidney damage and spinal damage is. Thereafter they will sort out the leg. I didnt see him but I undertand that they had to spend a serious amount of time stiching up his buttocks (which is the worst) and parts of his face, particulary his chin. I am sure I will find out how things went a little later and will post update I dont know the other guy. davem, let me know if you want Brad's details.
