  1. oh and it was cool of them to give us free entry to Vally of the Waves. Saved my family about 600 bucks. THANKS SUN CITY!
  2. I just laughed at the Strava segment some one made "SUNDOWNS RANCH OF HELL" haha! I agree... I kaked off.
  3. wrong category
  4. I think the ranking system is an outstanding idea and has really fired my mates up. HAHA! Any how, I was looking for my wife and despite doing many events listed she doesn't appear on the list. No big deal but would love to see her rank. Why would that be?
  5. Hi, Anyone used Polar Beat app? It's a heart rate monitor app for iPhone 5 and Android I guess. Is it any good? Do you have to use the Polar H7 heart rate strap or can you use another bluetooth HR strap such as Wahoo or Garmin or Runtastic? Thanks.

  7. This is what the good prof tweeted to me upon asking the same thing after going LCHF and cholesterol numbers climbing (and my wife worried I was killing myself due to societies conditioning that u will die if u have high cholesterol)... Tim Noakes ‏@ProfTimNoakes7 Jun Your real risk factors - blood glucose, insulin, weight, BP, inflammation - will have improved. Check LDL-particle size and number
  8. Took me about 4 weeks of hell to adapt. Did Northerns Quickie 50k during that time and literally thought I was vrekking! One day you'll feel great. Stay the course. Give it 4 weeks, don't worry about weight loss, its a scientific FACT that it will happen but it's the amazing side effects that will amaze you. Keep going
  9. Get a Freestyle Optium. Works nice. Want one that measures ketones AND blood glucose. I was BG = 4.1 and Keto = 0.5 (on the button, yeah baby!)

  11. High cholesterol is not a bad thing per se. I got this tweet from Tim Noakes ‏@ProfTimNoakes In reply to my question. "Your real risk factors - blood glucose, insulin, weight, blood pressure, inflammation. Check LDL-particle size and number."
  12. Risk factors for heart disease: Don't check overall cholesterol, check fasting glucose, triglycerides and HDL http://dietheartnews.com/2013/06/triglycerides-not-cholesterol-is-the-bona-fide-risk-factor-for-coronary-heart-disease/
  13. Side effects of statins for 5 years: 0.6% to 1.5% were harmed by developing diabetes, 10% were harmed by muscle damage. Benefits of statins for 5 years: 98% saw no benefit 0% were saved from death 1.6% were helped by preventing heart attack. S/effects def outweigh benefits.

  15. I've just come up to my 1 year anniversary on LCHF. No carbs for 12 months, yes, unbelievably I'm still alive I've been pretty strict at points taking my keto readings daily really keeps you on track, although it is bl**dy expensive so I don't do it all the time. I take my glucose readings too. I find that if I stay at 3.0 to 4.0mmol I'm pretty much in ketosis. I do long mountain bike rides / races 4+ hours on water only. No more energy bars, gels and energade. Don't feel so sluggish as I used to and not so obsessed about food. At the end of a ride I used to fantasize about what I was going to devour, now I don't even eat immediately after. I can go 18 hours without food, no problem. Lost 10kgs, skin is clear, not bloated anymore. I do recommend it, but the first three or four weeks is VERY difficult. My thanks to Prof Tim Noakes who was my initial inspiration and who has graciously replied to many of my tweets.
  16. Fat doesn't mean all fat. SATURATED fat = good. POLYUNSATURATED fat = bad. Omega 3 = bad.

    2012 94.7

Would just like to thank the organizers, the volunteers and the people of the City of Jhb for putting up with their city being basically locked down for the day. Saw quite a few shopping centers that were completely shut down. First ever road race. Rough, tough mountain bikers who think that its pansy to ride a road bike or slicks... next year we're buying road bikes... 4'08" on our knobbies.

    Babba's Lodge

granted... its hardly alpes d'huez but from 16.0km until 21.1km its a 134m ascent isn't that a hill for a your average Joe?

    Babba's Lodge

I have to have a very good reason to miss Babbas. Usually just do the 35k for fun. Home by 12. And don't let anyone tell u there's no hill. The one hill is a lekker little challenge. And sand? That's not sand... I survived Sondela!
  20. I also wonder about that. I reckon it's for short cutting... unrealistic times etc
  21. I got on the tail of Victor Matfield about 10 Kim's to go and he was pushing his buddy up the hills, then went home watched the rugger and there was Big Vic commentating at Loftus... what a monster 4:06 was a bit slower than expected but I guess it's ok in those conditions.
  22. Compliments: Was well organized. Easy to get to. Left home in Centurion at 6h30 and had plenty of time to register. Plenty of parking and nice amenities. Complaints: Sand. Want a pissed off MTBer? Just add sand. It's an unpleasant challenge for a kay or two but 30kms was a bit much. The last two watering points were packing up when I came through and completely packed up when my Mrs. came through, and those are the guys that need it most! This race reminded me why I dislike lap races. Conclusion: I'll be back, but I'll only do one lap
  23. Does anyone know if I can swap out a 70k entry for a 40k?
  24. I've got an F7 that works with Flowlink pad. Works like a charm, but the CS300 Weblink that works on sound (sounds like a 1998 modem on helium) sucks. First ever Polar I had I never downloaded a thing for that reason. When I bought CS300 I ASSUMED it was Flowlink. Dumb me for not checking. It's a super watch and HR monitor. But Discovery Vitality only allows you to link Polar. Wish they would accept Runkeeper or Endomundo. RCX5 looking good to me.
