  2. I'm hearing some disturbing news about an increase in muggings and attacks along the Spruit. Apparently, near the Virgin active on Rustenburg Rd. These attacks are not limited to individual victims only. I want to know how true this is and what other areas along the Spruit and environs are hotspots? Is there a spreadsheet/database that tracks this info in an easy to read format? (Councillor, Bridgette Steer, has arranged for JMPD to be at Rustenburg Rd from 6:16 to 7:30, from Monday to Friday next week. Not sure what happens beyond this.)
  3. Running Maxxis on 3 of my bikes. This is my bikepacking rig. I like them 'cos of the their durability, in particular, their sidewall strength.   5. Some extremely fit athletes also cramp and some individuals never cramp, no matter how unfit, overwieght etc they are. Dr Jeroen Swart was on television a few years back where he insisted that the causes of cramp are not fully understood. All the suggestions of training harder, getting your eletrolyte balance right, bike fit etc are thought to improve your chances of a crampless ride, but it does not eliminate the possibility. It seems clear from this thread that what works for one, does not work for all. Whatever the cause, how can we get rid of it, when it strikes whilst out on a ride? I have tried numerous other cramp blockers and even malaria tablets as was suggested in a forum somewhere, but to no avail. Again i say, Eno improves my situation and I think ,bicarb is an active ingredient in Eno. So Cadence Blur and I, seem to get some relief from a similar source. Assuming I have no Eno, another trick Jeroen Swart mentioned, was too lightly load the muscle that was cramping and not to rest the muscle completely. If you are lucky, after a while you can "ride out" the cramp. This also seems to work for me, but you have to be careful, because when you start to push it again, too soon, the cramp may return. I am also interested to know, how many riders that suffer from cramps, have also had at least one episode with gout.
  6. I have not read this entire thread, but clearly differenct things seem to work for different folk. Eno works best for me. I carry it with me in those small sachets. Some folk use Rennies. Seems to indicate that there is a relationship between cramp and high levels of acidity. Try it. You may be pleasantly surprized. Drinking lemon juice and luke warm water after a long endurance ride, helps to improve your chances for the following day's ride.

  10. I'm planning on riding down to the Margate/San Lameer area in December. Obviously I would like to stay off tar roads, main roads etc, as much as possible. I've made contact with a few people that can help with GPS tracks for the route, but if anyone can add to this or offer advise, it would be much appreciated. Thanx
  11. Just saw this thread now. If you are staying anywhere between Port Edward and Port Shepstone, I suggest you try Lake Eland. It is near or on the Oribi Gorge, with some great single track and breathtaking views. It is a bit of a drive to get there, but you won't be sorry. We go down to San Lameer often and this year I have marked a .gps route that will hopefully give us a 105km round trip from San Lameer through Lake Eland and back.
