  1. Hi, does anyone have a .kml file for this year's 94.7 route? I want to view it in google earth.
  2. I read people saying padded gloves gives them the problem, wouldn't they design the padding in such a way to distribute the pressure away from the 'danger' zones? It worries me a bit because I never had the problem and I used to have gloves without padding but they tore yesterday and I bought new ones which has padding. I'm probably not going to do another long ride before the 94.7 so I wont be able to test the new ones thoroughly.
  3. I really did enjoy reading that old thread, it was a good excuse to take a break from studying.
  4. Hi, I'm a second year mechanical engineering student. I'm looking for vacation work. We are required to do 6 weeks work after our second year and then write a report on it as a subject. Anything that has something to do with mechanical engineering in the Jhb or Pta areas would be appreciated. Pm if someone can help. Thanks
  5. I agree, JB is your go to guy when it comes to wheels. He is in Fairland Jhb.
  6. Glad you're ok. I am considering riding with a baseball bat in addition to pepper spray, cycling is becoming a very dangerous sport/hobby. Since the end of winter I've done a lot of riding at northern farms and haven't had any problems nor heard of any(touch wood).
  7. Even worse if you don't earn a salary yet... I'll be going to the bike shop today, will keep all the advice in mind and then buy whatever I can afford. Thanks for the help everybody, much appreciated.
  8. This is just my opinion but I'll go for a secondhand bike. This way you can get a better bike that will probably keep you happy for longer. Also I wouldn't buy anything with mechanical discs, I had them once and never again, only gave me problems. The secondhand bike market is a bit slow at the moment so people tend to drop their prices easily. I bought me a secondhand Merida Tfs800 just the other day and managed to get the price down by R1200.
  9. Thanks, will have a look at the SmartSams. If that is the only major difference between the fold-ups and wirebead I'll go for wirebead(the more affordable option).
  10. Race king sounds good but the mountain king looks to be a bit more expensive (after buying the bike I'm kinda short on cash). Also, what is the difference between the wirebead and kevlar foldup, is it mainly weight or are there other performance factors as well?
  11. I recently bought a secondhand merida. It's fitted with maxxis crossmark tyres but they need replacing. I need a tyre that is both affordable and a good all-round tyre. So far I've looked at Kenda karma and continental race king tyres, but I really don't know what I should get, any suggestions?
