  1. Oh we know and will never forget the wonderful people that supported Emily and her cause. Thanks to the generous donations we were able to literally tell the vets that no expense should be spared, she got all the care she needed to pull her through and that, with her own will to live is why she is here today. We at Husky Rescue and Emily herself are forever indebted to all that helped her and once again we say thank you to all. As a matter of interest we took the whole pack to Delta Park yesterday and Emily walked 3.2km pulling all the way like a true husky.
  2. And in case anyone forgot this is the before photo taken just 7 weeks ago.
  3. For those of you that followed Emily's story and supported us, she made her first public appearance on Saturday at the Husky Rescue Open Day where she was the star attraction. Some photos below but many more and some videos on the Husky Rescue SA facebook page.
  4. Shame poor boy but at least he knew what it is like to be loved for his short life. Sorry to hear, condolences and RIP little Charlie.
  5. Sorry missed your question, if you have access to Facebook best place to see her progress is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/huskyrescuesa/ Otherwise she is doing well thanks, her weight is now 14.3kg compared to 8kg when we found her and she is getting stronger by the day, you can actually see muscle tissue forming as opposed to just the skeleton she was.
  6. Like the others say, sad and happy tears at the same time, I still get sad when I go back and look at how Emily was when we found her. Great photos thanks. I am putting together a story for Emily on a similar line and want to include videos. In the meantime we still do daily updates on the Husky Rescue Facebook group page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/huskyrescuesa/ I posted a new video there this morning.
  7. That is a pity, it was about 2 months ago that I picked her up from the SPCA, will get more pics and PM you. To give you an idea of personality I put her in the back of the car when I collected her but before I could get in the front she jumped over the seats into the front and spent the whole trip to Husky Haven with her head on my shoulder. It was very close that I nearly went to my house instead of the Haven. She doesn't seem dominant but she is in a run with two huskies so it is difficult to tell as huskies can be quite pushy. Very obedient, and confident not scared of people or going into kennels etc. Edit: Feedback from Joanne at Husky Rescue, says typical BC, high energy, loves to sit on lap, mostly BC and would make an amazing agility dog.
  8. Talking about Border Collies, this is Scarlet that I recently rescued from the SPCA where she had reached her time limit. She is currently with us at Husky Rescue in Johannesburg and desperate to find a home. Lots of typical border collie energy and very affectionate, only 9 months old.
  9. Just to show what can be achieved with the power of positive energy, our little miracle Emily. This is her in the car after she was picked up just over 2 weeks ago. This is her being first examined by the vets. And this is her licking out our other dogs bowls this morning, she has survived being starved, eaten by maggots, billiary and kidney failure all in just over 2 weeks.
  10. RIP Zoey, run free over the Rainbow Bridge. Those are very powerful eyes. Condolences to you all.
  11. Eish, Tumbleweed is quick on the draw, thanks mate. We update several times a day with lots of pics on the Husky Rescue SA Facebook page, for those that can access Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/huskyrescuesa/
  12. Very cool, we live across the road from a primary school so our's love visiting the school. The kids run up to them and the parents heads for the hills at the approach of the "Wolves".
  13. Brilliant news !!! Emily is being discharged tomorrow, and coming home with me  I will be fostering her and assisting with getting her fully recuperated with a view to adopting if it works out ok. We have a long road ahead with lots of vets and physio visits but she got this far so the rest should be a breeze. Thank you all for the wonderful support over the past 10 days, Ian
  14. Beautiful, I wish I could post a contrasting picture I saw this morning of the aftermath of a dogfight, I just cannot fathom sometimes how the human race can stoop so low to allow such things to happen. The picture is too shocking for general publication.
  15. Nice one Scotty and well done, amazing how they get to you so quickly isn't it. Keep us up to date with his progress and I hope he gets better soon.
  16. Sorry I was out for a bit, yes those are correct thanks. The physio saw her for the first time today and was shocked at how thin she is. She has gone from 8.2kg to 11.6kg in a week but is still as thin as can be. They say it will be a long road to a full recovery but we at Husky Rescue are determined to help her get well.
  17. Hi Swissvan, as far as I know so far it is covered but we now need to start rehab etc with Physiotherapy so further donations will always be welcome to help her out in the longer term. The support has been fantastic from all over, we just can't thank people enough.
  18. Some may call it a miracle, I am not sure what to call it but today Emily surprised us all by walking around, she is making more and more progress every day. This is only 8 days from being found as good as dead next to the road. http://youtu.be/IkdXXtdSNBs
  19. Beautiful girl although she looks a bit apprehensive :-) Well done on having her sterilised, we need all animals to be done unless they belong to registered breeders. Hope the op went ok.
  20. Typical Jackie, ours is the same.
  21. Uni, it is an option but we have had plenty of offers of homes and the bottom line is that she will go to the home that best suits HER needs. She will need a place to quietly recuperate with indoor and outdoor access, someone to be there initially to look after her, ongoing physio etc. It will probably mean a foster home initially until she is strong enough to go to permanent home. Just an update on her condition, x-rays determined yesterday that she does have pneumonia, she is being treated for that and a physio will assess her puffy legs today. I will post more updates later. Thanks for all the support which has been amazing she has become a real celebrity.
  22. There is more about Emily on the Husky Rescue Facebook page including the amazing story about the guy who found her in Lenasia and contacted Husky Rescue to come fetch her. Can you believe he actually found her originally six months ago with a COAT HANGER around her neck which he managed to remove and was feeding her but then she dissapeared again until last week. https://www.facebook...scuesa/?fref=ts
  23. Sorry I should have updated over the weekend, this little girl continues to amaze us, in all honesty she should not be with us but she is a real fighter and since Saturday her condition is starting to improve, she is certainly not out of the woods yet but every day improves her chances of survival. Yesterdays update: TEAM EMILY UPDATE: Joanne Van Niekerk has just been to visit our little celebrity and she is stronger today, eating and drinking like a champion. Her eyes are bright and clear and she is telling everyone in no uncertain terms not to stop stroking her. Her breathing is still a worrying issue but her kidney functions are looking good and she has picked up 3kgs. Lets all stay focused and keep believing in this miracle baby!
  24. Emily is still weak because of the blood transfusions and billary but so far is still eating well. Tonight will be the last hurdle if she makes it through she has an excellent chance. She has also picked up about 1.5kg since Sunday so just over 10kg now.
  25. Nothing definite yet, I know she made it through the night but waiting for Joanne to let me know, hoping to go visit again this afternoon if she is well enough.
