  1. Thanks for the well wishes everybody, sitting in hospital as bored as can be, hope to go home this morning. Leg will be in a splint thing for 2 weeks, both ankles are swollen and my ass has no skin and is bruised which is k@k because I can't turn over becaue of my leg and the drain etc. as Sonic said but should be able to get back on the bike soon. I was coming down Witkoppen road from Cedar towards Kingfisher, I was doing about 50km/h. A young guy on a motorbike coming from the opposite direction didn't see me and turned right and basically t-boned me. I had nowhere to go because there was a bakkie waiting to pull off from the stop street. The impact with the motorbike on my knee did most of the damage and then I apparently flew over the bonnet of the bakkie and landed on the kerb about 5m away. Lay there for a few secs to check if everything worked but was then able to get up. Really nice lady in the bakkie brought me to the hospital and waited until my son (Sonic) got here. Really bad timing training wise, I was just peaking my base training for SA's and this was my last long week. I see Slave also became a casualty this week but seems to have fared worse than me. Hope you recover quickly Slavey.
  2. Cyclesure, service is excellent.
  3. 'Fraid so, it's worth buying a few tools, saves a lot of hassle and they aren't that expensive. Cassette replacement is really easy.
  4. You need 2 tools, first is a chain whip to stop the cassette from turning and the second is a locking ring spanner which looks a bit like a socket but fits into the splines on the cassette locking ring. Do you have these?
  5. I think we should contribute for the muffins as well. You and your family are being generous enough as it is. Can we do like last time and put out a donation tin, any excess can go to FORA.
  6. Her Royal Highness is going to have to invest in a bigger swimming pool at this rate. Should be good fun, looking forward to it.
  7. Ok, IanJ and Sonic are in and I ain't pushing anyone up the hill (note cool wink)
  8. That r.i.p.29er? now i'LL PAY GOOD MONEY TO SEE THAT. GT The S.I.R. 29 The ridget? Buy the way' date=' those shoes I picked up from you are the best thing since cheese...[/quote'] Now I can put a face to the name I am with jmaccelari, if Ianj is doing some pushing I am definitely there. Please don't move this to the 16 th. we have a brunch with great grandma. Ok let me get this straight, one of you rode 26,000 km in 24hr last weekend and the other 2 rode from Sani to the Himalayas and back via the Alps or something and you want me to do the pushing. I think not. Actually, last one to the top is a Woosie . IanJ2009-12-08 15:24:36
  9. Eish, not good news. Please keep us updated and wish him all the best for a speedy recovery from us.
  10. Can I just do the jumping in the pool bit? Can't you read? HRH Nancy Drew said her parents said you have to get muddy first then go in the shower before you can go in the pool. IanJ2009-12-07 14:33:10
  11. You won't enjoy it, we have to stop before it gets dark and it is less than 200km. HRH Nancy Drew - I will confirm attendance as soon as possible.
  12. Just to set the record straight, I was involved in the Marin incident (JB I presume we are talking about the same one). When we stripped the frame for painting we noticed a crack and discussed it with the painter before sending it to him. All he said was that he could try to drill holes to stop the crack spreading and he would fill the crack with putty. He never once mentioned welding or attempting to repair the frame and no welding was done. We got the painted frame back and within a few months the crack reappeared and started spreading. We also noticed cracks starting to appear in other places on the frame. After consulting with JB we have stopped using the frame. I do not believe that we were misled in any way by the painter he made no claims which could be disputed.
  13. BigBen, call that a race report? We need a bit more detail please. How did you guys do? Congratulations to everyone that took part and especially those that got places in their categories.
  14. You gonna slaughter two calves at the 24hr? Cool, good protein for SabieX.
  15. I have been with Cyclesure also for about 3 years and have 2 bikes insured with them for myself and my son. In that time we have had approximately six claims mainly for crash damage. Each claim has been dealt with promptly and usually settled within 2-3 hours. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them.
  16. what! and break my momentum and speed? Go ride on the Cradle Route (but keep it single file).
  17. Ditto me as well Ditto that ditto' date=' me as well . [/quote'] Had to go check....actually my 9th. HA.........eks voor die ou ooms!!! http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/fitz.gif Aha but I did 2 laps one year does that count? Sure it counts!!! Then my second lap will also have to count, giving me 10! OK then I'm on my 9th .... Ok but I have been riding portions of the route every morning this year so I have done 136. Think we'd better stop now, Spidey wins.
  18. I doubt it, more likely vagrants

  20. That picture looks very boring, we have mine dumps and taxi's and all kind of interesting things on our rides. Actually I hate you.
  21. Ditto me as well Ditto that ditto, me as well .
  22. Ag Wolfie don't be silly, it says Cheetahs and Blue Bulls on the poll. Do they have those sexy dancers when someone hits a six?
  23. I am not sure, which side is batting first?
  24. Just some feedback. Chucky and myself met with a representative of the residents from the Cradle area last week. Ken was invited but unfortunately could not make the meeting. I am not going to go into details here just yet but various issues were discussed, some positive and some negative and a list has been drawn up. In this weeks CGC newsletter it was also announced that CGC is coordinating a much bigger meeting with various interested parties in the area which should be held early in November, we will be forwarding our notes to CGC and will also attend this new meeting. One interesting development around which there seems to be some confusion is the widening of the Cradle road. It seems there is a good chance that this will incorporate a properly demarcated cycling lane which will go a long way towards solving many of the traffic issues. We are trying to get clarity on this. In the meantime please let's all just respect the rules of the road and be courteous to all other road users and the local residents.
