  1. So than the question is: If I do get a nice new shiny silver chain how do I prevent it from rusting? Other than proper cleaning, drying and lubing how do pros keep their chains looking so lekker???

  3. Thanks Johan much appreciated!
  4. Thanks Johan. Will a 'silver' chain also rust in this way? Because surely this rust must affect the performance of the chain when it comes to shifting?
  5. Hey guys any idea as to why my chain on my road bike would be rusting? After a ride in the rain, or when it needs a clean I use soapy water, then paraffin, let it dry and than lube it nicely. Its only a couple of months old and is the standard chain that came on the bike (9 speed Tiagra). Is there anyway to remove the rust or should I look at getting a shiny new chain (my chain was never shiny silver, but a darker colour).
  6. I think that if you got a good pair of tyres and the correct position on the bike you don't need heavy dh stuff. I'm sure tyre pressure would also have a lot to do with the grip of the back wheel. Guys have been climbing technical hills for ages and have gone for lighter bikes because of the weight you have to carry. But personal preference at the end of the day- for me cimbing a technical hill on a heavy bike would not be my idea of kiff.
  7. When I was shopping around for my road and mtb bikes I saw these expensive beauts that I could probably afford and than have no money left in the bank, but I asked myself: Boet would you really do that machine justice? Would you ride it to its full capability? And the answer was no. I don't have the fitness or riding knowledge to get the full potential out of a R50 000 Bianchi, so I bought an R7000 road bike and R8500 mtb. And you know what? I love them both!!! So I envy guys with lekker bikes, but I know at least that I am getting the best out of mine.
  8. Check out http://www2.merida-bikes.com/en_ZA/ZA for merida.
  9. This mongoose was my first mtb. It performed no prob- just a bit heavy (about 14kgs). Comfortable riding position as it is very upright, but for technical stuff and singletrack I would get something with different geometry. I upgraded to this: I have felt a massive difference in handling. My raliegh is a lot nippier! http://www.raleigh.co.za/Images/Products/2008/Elite%20Mountain%20Hardtail/RM%205.0/large.jpg
  10. Awesome! Ride it like you stole it!
  11. The question is though if I have to refill my tyres with sealant and I have a schrader (in other words I have to take a portion of the tyre off to get the sealant in), will the 20 inch tube hold its position against the rim so it seals again?
  12. I ride some Easton Vistas- entry level stuff, and I'm really happy with them. So my vote goes to Easton (not that I"ve ridden anything else).
  13. I think for peace of mind maybe- people associate cost and quality together. There are many ways to do things though if you ain't a rich bugger!
  14. Brilliant website Henri! That is the exact method I used, just plain water though, not soapy. And my bike is lighter!
  15. I gave it a lekker shake about. I will keep its pressure up, thanks.
  16. I did a conversion this weekend with 20 inch tubes and sealent. Worked like a charm (easier than I thought) but around the edge of the rims some of the sealent is bubbling out very slowly and I seem to be loosing pressure. Any recommendations? Will it stop?
  17. What is 'flood damaged'? Because damm so of that stuff is cheap!
  18. Any pics guys? I'm keen to do a cheap conversion myself.
  19. So what happened here? Success? I wanna see pics
  20. Thanks Mampara I'll check out Ritchey and Thompson!
  21. I'm not interested in blinging it up, I want to make it lighter. (A bit of a freudian slip your statement though hey!)
  22. Hey guys what would you recommend for my mtb when it comes to flat handlebars, stem and seatpost? Please keep in mind that my raleigh was cheapish, so no comments on R1000 carbon seatposts please I was thinking along the lines of BBB stuff, but lightish hopefully.
  23. This weekend I got my Raleigh RM5! Persistence is the key to success! I would like to thank Shaun and all his guys at Shaun's Power Cycles for hooking me up! They took the components off a RM6 and placed them on a RM5 frame for me! I haven't taken it off road yet but from a spin around the block it is so responsive! I pic shall go up soon! Now just to get some lighter handlebars, stem and seatpost
  24. Veloce it is how you remain light and nimble hey?
