  2. Agree with this view 100% Did my first 70.3 last year in EL and had an absolute jol. Drafting on the ride was an issue but pretty sure they are going to be a lot stricter this year. Just kicked off the training for next year, broken collarbone means no swimming for a few more weeks but that shouldn't be a big issue. Aiming for a sub 6 hour
  3. Ouch, had exactly the same thing happen 5 weeks ago and just went for my first ride this weekend. Get a good physio and do the exercises!
  4. So the other day I ran out of talent and broke my left clavicle, pretty much all the way through, requiring a plate and pins. Now I was wondering how long will it be before I can start riding again and if there is anything that I can do or take to speed up the healing process.
  5. I was a complete mess in T1 of the Ironman due to the pure ecstasy of having made it out of the sea alive. Other then leaving my race number behind (which I had to go back and scratch around for) I also left my beloved Rudy Project Rydon glasses on the floor outside of the male change tent. If anyone has spotted them please drop me a message.

Well organized, just 2 things I think need work. The male change tent was way too small, most guys had to change outside and it was all a bit chaotic. Secondly, having to pay R250 for a ticket for my wife to attend the awards ceremony is crazy. Our supporters put in a lot of sacrifice both during training and the race. It wouldn't be right for them not to attend but to pay R250 for an average dinner and cash bar is nuts. My view is that each athlete should be allowed to bring a better half along at no cost, without their help the athletes wouldn't even be there.

Ended up with Swim 45 Bike 3h13 Run 2h13 Transition 13 Total 6h24 Swim was flat and even for someone with my lack of ability was relatively easy. All the comments on the forum scared me on the bike and when I turned in 1h40 I got nervous and took it too easy on the way back. Conditions for the bike were perfect, cool with very little wind. Run was another story and it was baking! Held back too much again and ended up running 25min last 5km which was too late. All in all brilliantly organized and great fun. Next year sub 6!

  9. Parking was easy, queues were short. Exactly what I was hoping for, goody bag is not exactly a critical part of my race
  10. The accident looked terrible. It was very concerning to see how long it took for medical help to arrive.
  11. Andre, I own a RCX5 and use it while swimming all the time. It works really well and only misses readings if the heart rate strap slips down during turns etc. Under a wetsuit this isn't an issue and the watch works really well.
  12. The "Hybrid" polar strap works well underwater, however it only works with a polar unit set up to use it. The RCX5 is the only one that I am aware of.
  13. Send an email to Reception@universalproperty.co.za and ask them to add you to the mailing list. They send out a weekly email stating when the track will be open for cycling.

  15. I was told it still comes into Heia Safari at night. Hopefully it doesn't hang around when people go for a swim
  16. Just called Heia Safari and had the oddest conversation: Do you have any Hippos? No, and we never had So there are no Hippos in the water? It isn't our hippo!! wtf?
  17. Is it safe to swim at Heia Safari? I have heard various rumors / stories about hippos. Has anyone got any further info? Not many open water swims around JHB, after my 600m swim (run) at the BSG Harties I need all the practise I can get!
