  1. Hi all, some feedback on Breedts....the road condition has worsened considerable since I was last there over a year ago. the climbs are all manageable but you do have to be way more cautious on the descents. There is a lot more bare rock than I remember often with just enough sand on to make it very slippery, plenty deep ruts running across the road. Klein Breedts is no different, I ran out of talent there, my fault going to fast for the road condition, broken arm and hand later and I'm off the bike for 8 weeks, no Sani !! just a shout to the guys who stopped to help, sorry can't remember names or a thing of the accident, but thank you for all you did, you guys were amazing, humanity is alive and well! also lesson learnt of having an emergency app, they do work!! paramedics got to me in 40 minutes which considering the location wasn't bad. oh and helmets, I reckon mine saved my life, its toast but that would have been my head! lastly a big thanks to Fred my mate and Sani partner, whenever possible ride with someone, you just don't know what is around the corner. keep the rubber side
  2. are there any safety/security issues on Breedts? if I recall correctly a few years back there were a reports of drivers been aggressive to the riders and a couple of bikejacking incidents...
  3. My sinuses are f#%€ed. Gees can't get rid of these sinus headaches, every bloody morning and through the day. Wake up wanting to rid but so much pain I don't bother....
  4. So if you are feeling a tad sick, colds and flu. Should you ride or not? I've been trying to do a bit on the indoor trainer but feel broken after 30 minutes....
  5. most be a particular sinus bug going around. Reading your post is like dejavu. Also going to ENT on thursday, i have had 8 weeks of it and going off my head. I'm also asthmatic so can't risk getting on the bike besides some light spinning.
  6. well thanks, i started thinking i was going off my head! I've been sick with cold and flu for 4 weeks. Just when i think its gone and getting ready to ride it hits again. I haven't been on the bike since Sani. Done the anti biotics, no result. Think i will get vitamin posioning with all the gumph i'm taking. So, anyone, what's the magic cure?
  7. I have seen huge improvement after a month at Cadence, twice a week plus 6 hrs riding on the weekend. Also buys you a bit of motivation, not cheap but well worth it!
  8. i find my problem is trying to eat enough on the bike during long MTB days, if i have anything like a small meal, e.g chicken burger, sandwich, my body seems to shut down, and it can take a good hour or more before i feel like i've got any sort of energy back. Day 2 of Sani is a prime example, if i eat at the lunch stop im useless for the next 1 1/2.........so I try and get by on liquid food like Hammer Perpeptuem and bars, nuts & raisins etc. Im fine for say a 5hr ride but beyond that im struggling.
  9. Thanks Gnarly, I'm usually sorted on the weekends.....and going by your reputation not at your level yet. Safe riding,
  10. Who stocks Game now? I have looked around for it but cant find it at the supermarkets........ I favour Hammer Perpeptuem for on the ride food. Find it easy on the stomach........
  11. Thanks guys, i have done the out and back route from B'acres to the new swerage plant with a group on Saturdays a few times but always been a bit wary of doing it or part of it on my own. Manbear, you have successfully scared me away from Gnarly!!
  12. Sorry, ya during the week.....
  13. Hi all, Any group riding MTB from Broadacres in the early morning and don't mind me tagging along? I'm a bit nervous to go into Chartwell and surrounds on my own so I'm riding next to or on the road into the Cradle. Would much prefer to do a proper MTB ride!!
  14. anyone done this race before? How does it compare to Lionman Mabalingwe and basically is it worth the trip from JHB?
  15. plan for 8 weeks off the bike. I tried to do some spinning in my 8 weeks off but you sweat like hell under the half cast, and it does start to smell a bit! I crushed my tendons so had to go the op route but had it not been for the tendons could have had a brace and would have been the same result. After 12 months my knuckles are still swollen. Like everyone else also feel it in winter........
