  1. Hi all, some feedback on Breedts....the road condition has worsened considerable since I was last there over a year ago. the climbs are all manageable but you do have to be way more cautious on the descents. There is a lot more bare rock than I remember often with just enough sand on to make it very slippery, plenty deep ruts running across the road. Klein Breedts is no different, I ran out of talent there, my fault going to fast for the road condition, broken arm and hand later and I'm off the bike for 8 weeks, no Sani !! just a shout to the guys who stopped to help, sorry can't remember names or a thing of the accident, but thank you for all you did, you guys were amazing, humanity is alive and well! also lesson learnt of having an emergency app, they do work!! paramedics got to me in 40 minutes which considering the location wasn't bad. oh and helmets, I reckon mine saved my life, its toast but that would have been my head! lastly a big thanks to Fred my mate and Sani partner, whenever possible ride with someone, you just don't know what is around the corner. keep the rubber side
  2. are there any safety/security issues on Breedts? if I recall correctly a few years back there were a reports of drivers been aggressive to the riders and a couple of bikejacking incidents...
  3. Thanks for the feedback, great help ????????????????
  4. hi all, i'm in the process of purchasing a new bike. I upgraded my current bike to 1X12 GX about 2 years ago, the new bike has 1X12 NX.....should I ask the LBS to swop them around or is it better to keep the new kit?? thanks in advance...
  5. Thanks for the replies guys. Yip, I will suck it up, be patient and read cycling books!
  6. Hi all, I was told by the doctor and Physio not to do any excerise or cycling for 5 weeks after my surgery. ( 3 weeks to go!) I’m now starting to get edgy and wondering if I could get on the stationary bike, can’t see how that would put much strain on the stomach.... Anybody with any experience with this??
  7. I recently converted to 1x12 GX and kept my XT cranks. All working great. Went the "standard" 34 chainring with 10-50 cassette. Haven't missed the granny but I'm spinning out earlier than my previous 2X10. When I'm big and strong I'll get a 36....
  8. Thanks for your input everyone...
  9. Chain ring?? But as u day still cheaper than R 15k. Thanks. ( bang goes new bike motivation)
  10. Thanks for this....but sounds like a job for my LBS. Looking around at the cost, it looks like minimum a R 15k conversion......maybe time for a new bike!!
  11. A while ago i upgraded to ZTR wheels with DT Swiss hubs, if that helps??
  12. Hi all, please can someone advise me if its possible to convert my Giant Anthem 2 X 10 to a 1 X !2? It looks pretty simple but often things aren't as they seem....
  13. My sinuses are f#%€ed. Gees can't get rid of these sinus headaches, every bloody morning and through the day. Wake up wanting to rid but so much pain I don't bother....
  14. In some ways I'm glad to hear I'm not alone, sounds like we need a support group, or closer to the point, a support ride! Anyone in the Jhb northern suburbs, I WILL be riding from Broadacres on Thursday morning at 7am ????
  15. True words Mamil, you so right. I need to concentrate on the positives and push aside the negatives. Got to start with riding for the pure enjoyment then worry about the fitness, times, avg speed, distance, etc....
  16. I have always preferred the morning training, I'm fine during the week getting onto the Watt bike at gym, but come the weekends I'm horrible. The training partner thing is definitely part of my problem, use to ride with a great bunch of guys but I'm no where near fit enough to ride with them now. Truth is I ride for the fitness but also largely for the social side of it. So I suppose the solution is to fine another bunch to ride with who are of similar fitness, easier said than done.
  17. Hi there, I need help, advice, something... 2 years ago I was a regular 8-10hr a week rider, through injury and work commitments I degenerated to currently a 4-5 hr week. I now have the time to ramp it up again but just can't get out there!! I have all the plans laid out, positive thoughts, prep everything the night before, but just can't get the motivation on the morning to get out. ( even tried retail therapy )... alll positive advice will be greatly appreciated ????
  18. So if you are feeling a tad sick, colds and flu. Should you ride or not? I've been trying to do a bit on the indoor trainer but feel broken after 30 minutes....
  19. Hi there, Sorry for piggy backing off this post. Is there room for one more in your riding group?
  20. Hi all, Looking to get back into a routine before winter of riding on weekdays, any groups riding from Broadacres starting 5 to 5:30? Does Mellow Velo have a riding group? Thanks in advance...
  21. most be a particular sinus bug going around. Reading your post is like dejavu. Also going to ENT on thursday, i have had 8 weeks of it and going off my head. I'm also asthmatic so can't risk getting on the bike besides some light spinning.
  22. well thanks, i started thinking i was going off my head! I've been sick with cold and flu for 4 weeks. Just when i think its gone and getting ready to ride it hits again. I haven't been on the bike since Sani. Done the anti biotics, no result. Think i will get vitamin posioning with all the gumph i'm taking. So, anyone, what's the magic cure?
  23. I have seen huge improvement after a month at Cadence, twice a week plus 6 hrs riding on the weekend. Also buys you a bit of motivation, not cheap but well worth it!
  24. i find my problem is trying to eat enough on the bike during long MTB days, if i have anything like a small meal, e.g chicken burger, sandwich, my body seems to shut down, and it can take a good hour or more before i feel like i've got any sort of energy back. Day 2 of Sani is a prime example, if i eat at the lunch stop im useless for the next 1 1/2.........so I try and get by on liquid food like Hammer Perpeptuem and bars, nuts & raisins etc. Im fine for say a 5hr ride but beyond that im struggling.
  25. Thanks Gnarly, I'm usually sorted on the weekends.....and going by your reputation not at your level yet. Safe riding,
