  1. looks like S.A. has a new wold champ in the 1st E bike championship
  2. Something is not right with the organisation of this event. No info on number collection, timing chips and batching. Unless I am missing some communication
  3. Kudus where they are due. FREE download with complements of Nissan Trailseeker Series of pictures taken on the route by Jetline. Appreciate
  4. The abstract says it all. But it is amazing how "facts" can be contorted to reach any conclusion you want to produce for you own interests.

Perhaps the Hub can do a short write up once they have a clip of that record breaking run...and post it with the article. This is normally done by Hubbers (and its usually all over Facebook), but not this time. Wanted to watch it again, and have been searching for the clip but cannot find it.
  6. Cycling SA posted this report today http://www.mygeni.org/photoalbum/Cycling_South_Africa/national-champions-dominate-third-xco-cup.mygeni?aid=4239
  7. Thanks for the pictorial report back on the race. I have seen no reports on the race nor winners etc. I spent an hour or so at the event towards the end of the men's elite and it was quite a treat. You failed to mention that James Reid won by 12 sec, notwithstanding going down somewhere on the course. Made me feel better knowing how challenged I am by Wolwespruit every time I ride there. As a matter of interest, can anyone give a short report back on how Sunday, or the Open day went as sponsored by Tshwane Municipality. I was sorry I could not make it.
  8. The review states "I like to argue that this style of bike is a far better match for many South African cross-country mountain biker's aspirations and abilities than the harsh race inspired bikes that are currently so popular". Can you clarify when you say cross country (XC) are you referring to XC loops, our typical weekend 45-75 km rides/races, long flat rides or stage riding? Is there a thread that helps clarify what type of bike and suspension is best for which type of riding/racing?
  9. Does anyone know how the batches are going to work on the day of the race. I'm race number AL*** leaving at 6:40. Does this mean batches are leaving every 3 minutes?
  10. PM sent with the those details They also have a facebook page where incidents in the area are often reported @ Groenkloof Safety Initiative Email: gsi@groenkloof.co.za
  11. I am a resident of Groenkloof in which area KK falls and which I try, on a good week to ride twice a week and which I and a number of other cyclists were still riding this morning. Last night a special community meeting (Groenkloof Security Initiative) was held, attended by around 200 residence to discuss, amongst other things, the spike in crime in the area over the past two months. In the longer term the idea is to have monitored access in Groenkloof. In the shorter term - immediately, the key proposal is to put patrol vehicles at the major access points in Groenkloof, of which one is at the corner George Sorros and Herbert Baker. They have called for contributions from residents to pay into a fund for this service. Interestingly the meeting was informed about the attempted bike high jacking so there is concern all around. It might be a good idea to link up with the GSI coordinators and the preferred security company that patrols this area i.e High Risk when u do the sweep.
  12. I did not enter the race as in April I camped at Maglies and did this trail..A friend who rode with me got as sick as a dog after that first climb (7km in). I carried on and did a 19km route at an average of 9 km/h. One needs to be fit for that trail.
  13. Spoke to the organizers and the race will be taking place in the Magalies or version 1 above.
  14. Woke up too late for the Cullinam race which is now booked out. Was looking for an alternative and found this race, but there are different version of the same race: Anyone able to provide clarity. The Giamt XTC 0 is in a different league and costs R4,000 more. Otherwise it would b no contest.
  18. I am wanting upgrade to a bike around up to R15,000. So far Merida and Giant have caught my eye within that price range. But I am not knowledgeable enough to differentiate on specs. I have tried to do my homework by comparing and listed the specs below. As I am on a small frame, and considering the debate on the 26" vs 29", its seems considered that the 26" could be the better option for me. However all of Giants 2012 XTC range - (which I really like) are all 29ers.
