  1. And in the meantime you can pass on the gift to other people because you are not a pu55y. Well done on being so brave. Forget about the government (and the some of the stupid covid rules) and the WHO - there is more than enough evidence to suggest it is a good idea for everone to cover their faces in public. You do not have to give a**** at all for other people because the age of civility is gone.
  2. I am totally with you Chris! I was very much against all the panic farming around virus, but exactly two weeks ago a close friend died after battling this thing for a week in ICU and last week a second - much younger friend followed - changes the perspective somewhat and made me resolute to do my best to not pick this thing up now. I think keeping with a few simple rules like the masks/washing hands/cleaning surfaces and screening temps (at work) is the minimum we can do. I am an essential business and we set up most employees at home - but about 18 of them has to come in and I feel very safe with all that because EVERYONE is being as safe as possible. Obviously we will all get the bug over the coming years - but now (or the next few months) is not a good time. The economy HAS to open up - this gov cannot look after people inany case. Sorry about all the typos - my spectacles are hiding somewhere
  3. I did not see a single person pull up their masks - no one that passed me within a meter did so either - most cyclist/runners/walkers had masks around their necks - I saw runners put them on as I approach - but no cyclists did - as in none - at all. Anyone doing the atlantic road from sea point to hout bay will attest to that. There were several bunches of cyclist riding abreast and chatting - all with the masks around their necks - which helps nothing
  4. No - material/surgical masks wil not to protect you if worn casually - thats what you will need a n95 with all the rigmaroll around handling. BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT - it is proven beyound doubt that a material mask does reduce the distribution of droplets & aerosol FROM you to others SIGNIFICANTLY. But carry on - its too much to ask you to keep others in mind - they can mos stay at home as you say. It is actually law to wear one - but I suppose with all the other stupid senseless rules going about - you can also ignore this one?
  5. I am also over the fear mongering and want to be out there cycling - but - NO- you can help curb transmissions by covering you mouth and nose - and everyone around you is not in the safe zone - it is not a big ask or is it? I do not want to get this damn thing now because it will ruin my business and more than 30 people's food on the table - plus I am in the age group that gets hit the most. BUT I have had enough about sitting at home running down my immune system - so would like to cucle - but it seems it is impossible for people to do the safer thing? Like you say everyone gives a toss because they are fit and healthy - good luck then...
  6. yip - it could even be lower - were you out there? I lost count somewhere in the 50's and only 2 (excluding me) had their masks on. 4% is not really relevent - what is - is that almost no one covered their faces...but we can argue the 4% if that makes you feel good
  7. *asking for a friend* Why cycle in packs where not a single person has a masked on? This morning a group of 4 guys passed me near Camps Bay - none with any form of covering their nose/mouth and the leader coughing his lungs out over everyone- me included. Is it too much to ask? I counted mask wearers after this incicdent - less than 4% had their faces covered. It sort of makes it hard for those of us in the "danger" age group (50->) to be out cycling - just because of the majority of cycling community beig utterly selfish. And if you think you cannot get it or that you are so much better than anyone else - good luck - no one knows! I lost 2 friends in as many weeks - the one just older than 40 with no co-morbidities. But even if you are a super human - why would you willingly want to put others at risk?
  8. I Attached jpeg of Windguru when I replied - DONT SEE 55 WITH 7O GUSTS FOR TODAY AT ALL?
  9. Sunday will be worse - by about 25 -30%
  10. I smoked heavily for about 28 years, and then on and off for 10 years, but finally stopped after suffering a stroke. This is probably the longest I have been without a ciggi since I was 12 or 13. I did enjoy a cigar or strong cigarette, and often smoked menthol ones to - but I must admit, after the craving is gone and the "what do I do with my one hand at a party / bar" is resolved, you will thank yourself. I do miss the smokers corners though, they have better jokes and seem to friendlier peeps But seriously - stop! - stopping it is worth more to you and your loved ones than winning the lottery and you are the one calling the numbers:) I keep reminding myself that I started smoking because of childishness and a need to look cool and handsome and don't need that any more:)

  17. That club does a lot of good as well and now sit with their reputation ruined by a few thugs (who did it in front of juniors & children from what I gather) NEVER MIND THE CLUB's INITIAL REACTION! that was probably uninformed and a knee jerk as well - and probably not even from the pres of the club. Instead of trying to kill the club off, I think fellow cyclists should support them in doing the right thing and sorting this terrible mess out - which I believe they are actually trying to do right now. I hate some of the pettyness portrayed - like the one post on the forum lambasting the club as the only club with a photo of riders abreast on their webpage = when that photo was clearly taken at a cycling event/race/funride. If you scream from your tower to have the club closed down - like so many people did in the most vile language on their facebook page before it was closed, (mostly of racist and intollerant towards religion) - think about those kids first- would you rather have them out on the streets doing drugz & ****? The development work that Muhammadeyah has done is well known and respected. Don't throw the baby out with the water as we say in Afrikaans. I trust those thugs will have to explain their actions to the cops as it is purely criminal, but I would love to see the club get back on their feet and carry on. My 2 cents Stef
  18. I have a Giant TCR composite 2 Since October I weigh 117kg I have blown both front and read tires when I went over a cat eye at speed. Had the frame checked out - no problem. Someone explained to me that the wheels will wobble & collapse long before the frame - I hope hat is try! I think carbon is a more comfy ride - but I do not know enough
  19. Now I feel even worse! My first post here and I have to confess - I'm not ne of the above numbers, but... Its been bothering me the whole day Sunday - I had a GU gel (my first one while riding) and managed to squirt it all over my hand (being a newbie at this) I let go of the wrapper, I think it landed on the road, I was so peeved at my sticky hand that for a few seconds I did not care - and then I did but I was a few hundred meters down the road, I should have turned around but I did not. with the other two I had I was much more carful and kept them in a pocket until I could dump them at the last Coke stand. Sorry earth! Stef Albertyn
