  1. I'm still tempted by the 2022 Scott Spark Comp... Is SRAM NX a downgrade from Shimano's XT? I'm picking up by Googling that it is. I have XT on my 2017 Scott Spark 940 so forking out for a new Spark Comp, considering new prices lately, may not be worth it. Any advice?
  2. Hi. Almost a year later from the last post on this topic...what is the verdict on this bike? My history with Scott & the prices that I remember, as bike prices were discussed a lot in this thread: - Had the 2013 Scott Spark 940, +- R23k. - Have the 2017 Scott Spark 940, +- R40k before trading in the 2013 version. - Interested in this RC, +- R72k now. From my background & with my friends in exports/ imports the global supply chain is backlogged which is increasing prices. Some guys are even struggling to arrange containers. You wouldn't think so when you drive around our harbours or even downtown Joburg. Back to bikes, what other makes & models would you suggest in this price range? I'm also nervous about going into the second hand market.
  3. Any one find a pair of Rudy Project sunglasses at Northern Farm on Monday, 22 March, or later? They have a silver & white frame with photochromic lenses. Thanks.
  4. For those worried about others unclipping and wasting your time note that it is impossible not to unclip on the 54km version. There are parts that you need to get off to get over pipes or up stairs etc. I can't comment on the 22km version.... If you are a seasoned cyclist why bother changing to flat pedals, you'll just lose all the benefits of clipping in. Then there is free will so do as you please. My advice, hit the wet spots and water as square as possible and stay away from the green spots. Good luck!
  5. Thanks Cassie. I sent the organiser of the shuttle service an email with your suggestion. If anyone reads this and is driving from Emseni to Windmill farm please DM me.
  6. That is a very good idea but I don't know anyone and I've already paid the R450 (no problem with supporting the charities or potentially writing it off now). We are 2 guys so we would need a lift for 2 with bikes & bags. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who could help and the event is around the corner. Your solution for the future events is actually a good idea as well as already your overnight bag comes on a truck to Em'seni, not in your vehicle, so you don't have to worry about that. I'm going to share that with them if you don't mind. My insurers say as it is a complete stranger driving the vehicle, he only got his drivers license in December '16 and they have no idea of his insurance history, they are therefore refusing to cover.
  7. I've got an insurance risk now.... I signed up for the transfer of my vehicle from the start to the race village. The organisers say it is at my own risk and my insurers won't cover me as well due to various reasons out of my control. Anyone else with the same problem or a solution?
  8. Late reply to this post... For someone that doesn't know much about the specing of a chainring or the cassette part can someone please explain the above. I get the whole 2 x 11 part but admittedly I'm ignorant about the rest. Thanks.
  9. jeffd81 A little bit of everything.....
  10. Morning, Random question but how many people buy Jetline Action Photos? I've just looked at my Trailseeker #3 photos & there is nothing "action" about them. 1 photo at the start & 2 on dirt roads. In the past I've never purchased a photo either, my choice, there were a couple of good ones. These photos aren't cheap, in my opinion, either. Is business good for them? I'm in no way affiliated to them or competition. I'm just curious to what others think. Cheers,
  11. According to this website Cape Town is worse than Joburg, ha ha...That goes against the expected.
  12. I made the trip today & it was worth it. I think it was better than last year & I think the attendance numbers were up too. The venue also offered more Ito testing bikes. Well done!!
  13. I'm keen to go have a look at the show as I also went last year. Google mapping the venue & it is a 70km round trip from Joburg Northern Suburbs where I live. I think the Fair is a great idea but aren't the organisers worried that the distance will discourage the average cyclist of going for a browse? Fair enough if you are looking for something to do after your training ride in the Cradle if you are a roadie. Just a thought....
  14. Thanks @MariusKlokie! Looks like there are Racing Ralph or Rocket Ron are good options but they don't have stock. I need to kit out the girlfriend's bike for B&B 2day race on 18/19 Oct.
  15. Anyone know of any local (Joburg northern suburbs) or online (SA based) stores running any specials on tyres currently? I need to do a tubeless conversion.
  16. Thanks! What I didn't put in the opening post is that we are looking in Joburg.
  17. Any suggestions on cycling stores for buying ladies MTB shoes/cleats? Trying to get a pair for my girlfriend but out of the stores we have been to the ranges are a lot smaller & starting prices higher than men's shoes/cleats. Thanks!
  18. Anyone know what this means?
  19. Thanks! We are in the market for a 650b/27.5inch medium for around the R12k - R14k mark. Any other brand/model suggestions in that price range would be appreciated too.
  20. Hi all, Any opinions/views on these bikes? Thanks!
  21. Howzit! Just an update: We went to Tranquilita's in Waterval Boven this past weekend & it was great. We stayed in the perma tents which were well equipped, neat & tidy. I would definitely recommend this place & go back. Not much happening in the town so take what you need with.
  22. Morning, I'm looking for a spot to go camping for a weekend with MTB trails close by. I'm from Joburg so preferably North of Joburg, as it is getting cold now, & not too far as I don't want to spend most of the time driving. Anyone know of a good spot or a website to look up? Thanks!
  23. Hi, I currently have tubeless Maxxis Crossmarks on my bike & over the weekend a knobbly broke off on my rear tyre causing a puncture which the slime sealed after a while, but I think it is a weakness due to a chunk of rubber coming off & I should therefore replace it. I see on CWC there are good sale prices on the following: Maxxis Ardent Maxxis Monorail Continental King II Protection Kenda K1010 Kenda Slant Six Are there any opinions on the above out there or should I stick with the Crossmarks which are also on sale? Thanks!
  24. Hi all, Any opinions on these 3 bikes for a female rider? Thanks, Jeff
  25. Hi, I'm going on holiday from Jhb to Cape Town (Langebaan) & I was thinking of dividing the long shlep of a trip into 2 days. I was thinking of stopping over in Beaufort West. It will be great if I could go for a ride in the afternoon when I get there or a ride in the morning before I leave. Does anyone know of a farm or something offering accommodation with a MTB trail in that area. Thanks, Jeff
