  1. Those are beech dowels, you heathen I've got a set of plug cutters that I've used before to fill pocket holes, but I liked the contrast these provided.
  2. Did a quick(ish) project for a Hubber - Thank you AndyDude, hope it gives you the platform you needed, and please send pics when you use it! From conception To materials To construction A mate told me "If you've got enough clamps, you don't have enough work" - this is about a tenth of the clamps I have To completion Half-blind dovetails for the carcass and pocket holes for the frame. Andy's going to use it to test insulation material that they manufacture.
  3. Hmm that looks more like Rhodesian Teak than Rosewood though ... no matter, they cost the same from lumber yards. Let's see, 10m long X 360mm wide X 40mm thick, would be .. uhm ... maths ... uhm 0.144 cubic metres, so roughly R2500 (From Silverton Timber Merchants latest list) I'd say a fair offer would be somewhere around R2000, judging by the checks and chips (from planing too much at a time, presumably) I'm out though, I'd rather look at something longer. Will send your pics through to some mates to contact you though.
  4. Never trust a woodworker's wife's pricing ...
  5. I may not be clever by I can to lift heavy fings
  6. Super tempting ... would be enough for a 10 seater tabletop. Do you have a price in mind?
  7. No, no ... he does that because he once fought Chuck Norris. Loser has to wear underpants outside.
  8. Challenge accepted.
  9. Made a quick tea tray for a kitchen tea last week ... Nothing fancy.
  10. That's ex-vat, so 1 inch lumber is around R180K a cubic meter ...
  11. Rarewoods in the Cape has some:
  12. I just adjusted mine It's got a set of bolts that you can use to set the tracking on the belt, you can also use them to tighten the belt a bit. Now if I can only get sandpaper that lasts in it ... mine does about 50 boards or so then shreds on either end. Duct tape gives me another 5 boards or so.
  13. Anybody been to the Woodex show yet? Want to know if it's worth the schlep, someone just told me it's tiny
  14. Try importitall - I've been lucky there sometimes with spares.
  15. The classification has little to do with how 'hard' the wood is ... Basically, if it has flowers, it's hardwood. If it has cones, softwood.
  16. No, we drink after 12 on a Friday at the office ... I just went somewhere else You know it's a joke set of videos, right?
  17. Maple street Timbers, they in Pomona.
  18. It's the wife's treadmill bike .... parked between the dustbin and gas cage, don't think it's seen a pedal in two years.
  19. Boss just gave me permish to leave at 12 ... I'm going pigeon shooting with the boys
  20. I have some free time on my hands, so busy cleaning and organzing the workshop a bit. I'm making a router table stand thingy, this is it's handle. Rhodesian Teak inlay in (gah, sies, spoeg uit) pine. I've been wanting to try this for quite some time now, glad I did it with scraps and not in a project.
  21. Movei from 2007 (yes, this milenium) called Big man Japan
  22. Ok, so for the Gauteng based guys I'm going to drop the mother of all Pallet secrets: Andre 082 257 5667 He works at Norcros, who makes tiles and cement for TAL and a few other companies. They make their own pallets to ship out (unobtainium) but most of the pallets that comes in are sold ... 50c a piece. Enquire with Andre as to availability and pick-up times etc, they are a little finicky sometimes (can only pick up on Tue and Thur, must 'book' a week in advance etc) I normally pre-pay for 100 pallets and drop two of my guys there with a set of crowbars, hammers, pliers and a trailer. They fill it with stripped planks in a day
  23. Then swop them for shorter boards
  24. 3 meters? Table top for sure. There's still a lot of yellowwood available, price is around the R30 000 per cubic meter mark, but most of those are short planks around 1.8m, and under 200mm wide. Unless you pay premium plus a little on the side, then you can get those sizes you speak of. It would be sacrilege to waste that much length (that's what she said)
  25. Which one? Chuck it and get a Random Orbit Sander, the round one. Kill it! Kill it with fire! Try and get a Triton - a bit more expensive than garden variety Bosch (ok) or Ryobi (crap) but just the fine adjustments you can make on it makes it worth it's (considerable) weight in gold
