  2. It depends on what you define as "great" single track. Do you want natural features, manmade features, flow, or beautiful scenery? My choices: Climb all the way to the top and bomb down a feature filled track : Jonkershoek by a country mile!!! ( The flow on these tracks are also great!) Undulating single track with great features most of it under tree canopy: Garden Route trail Park Up, down and up and down again in 40deg with some cool features: Hoogekraal Flowy single track with varied terrain, great rock gardens, and the odd feature: Karkloof / Howick trails. In Johannesburg my favorite is the Spruit. That's just me; I like the features in the Spruit. None of the other trails in Gauteng have jumps that's on the same level. (I'm talking trails here, not jump lines like Wolwe or Huddle.) The other venue that's almost there is Hakahana. I would not categorize it as flowy or feature filled, but it's very good in the Gauteng terms. (The terrain unfortunately kills flow in the sense that it is very rocky.) Venues like Van Gaalens, Groenkloof, Rietvlei etc. have no or very little features and flow, so I would categorize them with the trails above. Features being jumps, berms and drops. The best single track depends from rider to rider. I like trail features and flow.
  3. My (26") 11 speed XX1 shifter, cassette and rear derailleur will be in the classifieds pretty soon.

  6. When I get tired of the "highlighter yellow"....not soon. I love my bike! Especially the color. The color of the my Ali is the only reason I'm not on the carbon already.

  8. Josh what size are you? I have a pair of Teva Clipless for sale....used literally twice. Wrong size. R500.
  9. Well...in my extremely unbiased opinion...Banshee and Transition comes to mind.
  10. You need to get an "alternative" bike, your bike is way too main stream;)
  11. It will go with your Star Wars Super 2R, Star Wars Fox MX Helmet, and your Star Wars Fiat 500...and your "I only buy my coffee at Deluxe" beard!
  12. Shimano AM 7 flats or AM9 clipless. If it's good enough for the Atherton's, it's good enough for you. Cool Heat does not bring them in....better shop on CRC.
  13. I think you should change the criteria. A lot of these companies do not manufacture 26" anymore, or never have. ( DH, Freeride and jumpbikes does not count.) Niner...the name says it all: 29" only.
  14. You might be right. Is there more than one Myles in CT? More than one Myles that owns a mountain bike? (I think I did get confused)
  15. Now that you bring pictures into the equation: It took my 10 days to do that. The first time I stopped on the lip of that drop I was physically sick. I did the run in almost 20 times to get an idea of the speed required. It looks a lot more difficult than it really is. Getting back to the Trail grading post: This is on a Blue line.
  16. Oh, the modesty....But seriously, the first time I rode a DH bike was in December. I still won't make the top 30 at Hakahana, never mind podiums with the likes of Garlicki and Potties. (Like some people I know.)
  17. Clearly you have not seen me on a bike...I'm definitely not in your league.
  18. If you are a size large you can try mine ( including the sticker pack) in December!
  19. And getting back to the topic: Transition were sold out in some countries (2015 model range) before they even delivered the bikes! There is already a waiting list for the Patrol Carbon, and it's a R40k+ frame.
  20. Yeh, companies like Knolly, Evil and Banshee really have a tough time. If you are not doing the numbers, you pay a fortune in manufacturing costs. I read somewhere that Banshee only produce 2000 frames a year. If that's the case, there is just no way that you can compete on price against the big guys. Knolly's new carbon frame is a good 10 to 15% more expensive than a SC Nomad frame....How do they sell anything if that's the case? As we are on the topic of SC...a buddy of mine's 2013 Nomad C was valued at R100K + three years ago...and there wasn't even Enve parts of his bike. A Top end Yeti Am bike today R140k.... Say no more.
  21. But Myles in this case the above wouldn't apply. A Patrol with similar specs as the Reign 1 would be similarly priced. If you compare the bikes like for like it is fairly easy to drop 10k from the Patrol's price.
  22. What I've noticed about Transition Bikes ( while riding in the Alps), is that they are generally ridden by real hooligans. It doesn't matter if it's a TR500 downhill bike, a Patrol or a 140mm / 125mm Scout, these guys ride their bikes like there is no tomorrow. While the rest of us are still thinking about a 10m+ gap , these guys do backflips over it. ( In their frokkies! ) A recent trend is also probably responsible for slightly over-designed AM bikes. Riders who had a trail bike and a downhill bike in the past, now have only 1 bike: An all mountain / downhill trail shredder that can stand the abuse dished out by the riders mentioned above. These guys now ride trails on their AM bikes that were "DH bike only" a couple of seasons ago. I think Transition kept this in mind when they designed the new range. They probably could have done with less welding, but a little bit of extra welding is 10x better than a broken frame. I can go on, but beer is waiting...
