  1. Sorry dude, it doesn't work like that. We respect YOU. Or we don't respect YOU. Based on your actions. Whatever... the belief is separate to you, but it's something that forms a part of your life and affects you deeply. If I said I didn't respect you because you're a christian, then it'd be a different story.
  2. I respect the person, not the belief... Big difference.
  3. This. Entirely this. If someone subjugated someone else based on their religious bent / sexual orientation / ethnicity / whatever, I'd be livid, and would fight that as much as I could. However. That does not mean I will not ridicule a person's BELIEF. Sexual orientation / ethnicity / age etc are not belief structures.
  4. Nice conflation, there. Very well set up straw man. Racism (apartheid, in your example) is the hatred and subjugation of a subset of humankind based on their particular shade of skin. If you (as a christian) were not able to partake in certain things, or were subjugated and prevented from access to areas based on your belief, THEN you'd have a valid argument. Being offended by someone's statement regarding your belief system DOES NOT EQUAL subjugation based on skin colour, or subjugation based on sexual orientation, or racism, sexism, pornography or any of those things. YOU ARE NOT YOUR BELIEF.
  5. No, that's not what I mean, and you're conflating issues and putting words into my mouth. I was referring to the ridicule of a belief system, not the cards you're referring to. Personally, those cards make me cringe, but that's because I recognise that they could be offensive to some people. That doesn't make them hate speech, or racism, or homophobia. It's not making fun of it, either. Humour doesn't always have to be funny to have an effect.
  6. Ja, cos those things are aimed at actual people, instead of belief systems.
  7. Nah, I think it was that dodgy Californian English didn't translate to Hebrew that well...
  8. Nobody ridiculed you. You are not the religion, and the religion is not you. That's a rather large and important distinction. Furthermore, it didn't actually ridicule the religion at all. It didn't call it in to question, it didn't say it was an irrational belief system based on bronze age thoughts of belonging and / or society, and it didn't say YOU were a fool for believing in it (for clarity, I only hold to the italicized text - people are free to believe what they want, as long as it doesn't hurt others... as to whether religion helps more than it harms, well, that's another discussion) We (as a collective) are fully within our rights to ridicule anything that someone believes in. Do not ridicule the person for believing in it, as people are at times gullible and open to manipulation and erroneous thought regardless of their intelligence or lack thereof. EDIT: For example - would you ridicule the belief of those in the flat earth society, or the (hilarious) Flying Spaghetti Monster? Of course you would. But you wouldn't be ridiculing the person unless you said they were an idiot / cretin / backwards hick for believing such claptrap...
  9. yes, agreed. But in some cases it's warranted.
  10. This is important. You can still support someone without supporting their decision. They are not mutually exclusive.
  11. I remember them well... My dad used to have an old Granada, back in the day. As for the Cortina, though.... "Ford Cortina, Spacy and wide"
  12. Slight change, but a very important one IMO. It's perfectly fine to go at something for the express purpose of offending someone. But as soon as your words are aimed at HARMING someone (emotional abuse / verbal abuse / hate speech / racism etc) then it's a different story, and you *should* hold back. You don't have to, as there's free speech, but then the other party has a recourse to call you out for it. But holding back because it may offend someone? Nah, fk that.
  13. Almost, ALMOST bought one of these as my first car. Went for a mini instead.
  14. For bling, I'd go weber. But setting up those 3 webers is gonna be an absolute ballache compared to the single Holley. Agreed re your thoughts on teh 'box
