  3. Crazy, salad dodgers out there with kgs to lose will spend thousands making their bikes lighter when all they have to do is skip that coke, packet of crisps and bar one.

  5. Yip, admission of guilt counts, and the authorities wont try prove him wrong by testing him if he already confessed to it. I guess they could test him to see what he took if they were so inclined.

  9. Everyone punctures eventually, and it doesnt matter what tyres you have, if the rip is big enough you are walking home. I guess if my curiosity gets the better of me I will just have to splurge out and test tubeless for myself.
  10. true Mampara, most mtb's come with tube tires. I have been fortunate with them but as a cyclist am always looking for something shinier, lighter, better, faster etc. Just thought I would put it out there and see what feedback came in.

  13. Hi, I have done quite a bit of reading on the whole mtb tubeless vs tubes subject. For every pro their is a con why I should or should not go tubeless. For example, weight is increased but rolling resistance is decreased. Immunity to punctures only goes as far as the your ability to avoid obstacles combined with the quality of your tires and what you inject into them (stan's, joe's etc). Mates of mine who ride tubeless still carry tubes in case of the inevitable. I have been riding tubes all along and my mtb experiences are not bad ones but I'm still intregued about tubeless tires. Does anyone have anything to add regarding their experiences with both. I can only speak from the tube point so far. My buddies just say tubeless is better, which isn't much to go on.

  16. ye I guess you are right. I love my road riding, dont get me wrong, mtb is great too, I'm a huge fan. Would just be nice to ride a road race without the thought of 'they have taken my number, wonder if they are gonna dq me too' lingering in the back of my mind.
  17. I think the consensus is that there is a mixed bag of what everyone perceives the rules to be. I wish the rules were clear cut, I have only done a few races as a licensed vet and have not had a good experience thus far. Last race I did, I was told my number was too small. The race before that, I was told that my bike number was supposed to be around the top tube, I though it looked better cable tied to my seat stem. I see the requirement to be professional, but when the different cycling bodies dont make the rules freely available, professionality turns to mickey mouse.

  19. I was badgered by uci officials on 2 occassions yesterday at the D2D road race. I was supposed to start in the licensed VA group but decided on riding in VB with my mates. A marshal approached and said I was not allowed to do that. She escorted me to the front of the VB bunch and told me to go. The VA bunch had already left about 3 minutes prior. I crossed the start line but sat up and waited for the VB's (+- a minute). I rode with them for about 30km and broke away with about 15 BV guys. I was always sitting at the back and did nothing to hamper their race. I stayed with the VB front runners but sat at the back for another 10 km's when another official approached in a car and told me to hang back, but couldnt tell me how far back to fall. I told her that I was not interfering in their race, but she insisted. Fearing the worst (dq), I just sat up and fell back. I rode the last 65km or so with another VA rider who I reeled in, but feel my time would have been so much better if I had stayed with the VB bunch. Does anyone know the rules? If I was wrong then fair enough, I will ride in my own bunch from now on regardless. Any light on the subject would be much appreciated. Doug
  20. Hi, Anyone know what the settings are regarding kg/psi for the Fox 32 F100RL shock? I weigh 78kg's and am trying to set the correct air pressure. Any help would be much appreciated. Doug
  21. Good advice, thanks. I recently bought a Knog gator 305 and am quite satisfied with it. I did quite a bit of research before buying the Knog, but was stumped as there was no real comparison chart on the web for lights and every cyclist had a different story / preference. I had to learn the hard way and clocked a pothole in the dark, I hit the thing so hard it felt like I chipped my teeth. Needless to say, a set of rims later I can see where I'm going. Regs Doug
  22. The Easton Ascent II's are excellent climbing wheels if you can get hold of a pair. I have a set as my race wheels and I love em to bits. They weigh around the 1.4kg mark but I think they have been superceded by the slightly heavier EA90's. You can pick a pair of the newer rims up for about R6K depending on where you shop.
