  1. personal preference. shimano or sram (or microshift/token). then depends what you can afford, & if u a weight weenie, what you like the look of etc...
  2. do a search on here cracked carbon frames. there was a topic on it a while ago. or try search for the guy that owned produx - he had repaired someones bike
  3. lots of people are crying about the cost of epic. i certainly can't afford it now (and would like to be able to), but there is obviously nothing wrong with the pricing if all the entries get sold. supply and demand
  4. i think its a question of leverage - the rear derailers move a different amount accross for the same amount of cable pulled by the shifter
  5. hey BeeT, there is nothing wrong with that - it's a race and you have to be cleaver. if you don't like it, then slow down, let him past and stick on his wheel, or up the pace and get away from him
  6. wow, R25 now. last time i paid i think it was about R15.
  7. i woudn't say there are any specific routes - you kinda take which turns you feel like and how far you want to go. i'd def try go with someone who knows the area as the roads aren't all marked and i don't think all the single track is marked/ i don;t think you'll find it all. awsum riding - just go with some1 in the begining
  8. i remember speaking to a guy that was involved in development cycling and also officiating (spelling) in the ironman. he swore it wasn't a good thing for a bike and had said one of his alu bikes had broken near the bb. something to do with the bike not being able to make the sideways movement it does on the road
  9. nope - scott all the way (from 2009 the genius has a dt swiss shock i think but it aint going to fit your bike)
  10. i've got a pair in my spares cupboard. need to order some pads to get them up and running again. they actually really cool and still lighter than disk brakes they also have more stopping power in dry weather than disk brakes - but you probably wont need that unless you weigh 200kg
  11. hahaha. bad idea. when i spoke to the eu riders on epic they said DO NOT ride v's in snow. the rim heats up from the friction of braking then when it gets down into the snow, the heat causes a little bit of water to coat the rim. by the time it reaches up to the brake again it has frozen, an you have no brakes because there's no friction between the ice (on the rim) and the brake pad.
  12. well lets see them then - post them up - sharing is caring
  13. goodness!!! you wont get any decent riding up in joberg rather come to cape town - we a much nicer bunch of people
  14. we'll i'll add to cable stretch is the cables getting dirt in them vs hydraulic where you cant get dirt into. it's not a huge problem - as i said i like some aspects of both and i ride bikes with disks and v's. i hated disks in the begining, but when you get them set up properly they can be very sweet
  15. learn to fiddle with your brakes. it'll take a while to set them up properly (i eventually took a file to my adapters) but when you get them working properly they can be less hassle than v's. there is no cable stretching with the hydraulic brakes and they are less hassle and better braking in wet weather. i find v's better in some circumstances, but mostly prefer my disk brakes.
  16. any1 ridden them - what do you think? only ridden the hardtail, but was wondering how the dual compares to other bikes?
  17. not too sure of this - i dont think it matters if your crank is 10cm long or 1m long - its all connected to the same gears. so at 100rpm you gonna go the same distance - there is no effect on where the chain sits. 100rpm = 100rpm
  18. um, a keyring do i win?
  19. 9000
  20. no, put most of the tyre on but leave a 10cm section of one beading off. put your little bit of sealant in there then put the rest of the tyre on. you can try inflating with a foot pump and works quite often otherwise inflate with a bomb (manufacturer says you shouldn;t cause the sealant doesn't like the CO2, but once i've sealed it this way i let most of the co2 out and footpump the air in - keep the valve at the bottom as the co2 is heavier than air) otherwise inflate with a compressor or at the petrol station - you'll need an adaptor if you using presta? (thin ones) valves but they are cheap at most bike shops
  21. paid R5500 for a 2005 mc30 last year in good nik with full xt and a fox talas - i got a good deal, but still think max R7000 ish for this one
  22. can you put air into it? isn;t it a coil shock?
  23. never ridden the race king's but the xdx is a reeally light and fast tire. imo feel faster than mountain kings but i haven't actually measured, just what it feels like
  24. prologue isn't stage 1. may still be like last year with prologue on table mountain and then stage 1 starting somewhere out of cape town
