  1. a bomb works fine with my tires any haven't had them deflate yet. the airport personel are really anal, but you dont have to totally defate your tire. they just want it low enough so that they can compress the tire and feel the rim. the tire shouldn't loose its seal then.
  2. yes, i've seen some with v brake mounts
  3. did between 75 - 80km (difference in speedo's on 2 bikes) off road down a really steep hill on XC bikes. couldn't get the bikes to go faster. it gets a bit unstable but great feeling at the bottom of the hill. i'm not to sure that i'd want to live if i came off the bike at that speed just wearing normal licra. (spelling??)
  4. what bike do you have? and what size? i'm a medium. (i just want to know if its worth my while to go look for a computer shop with worse service)
  5. i heard it can effect the performance of your shpongle!
  6. maybe just save weight by taking the shock/ fork off? i hear its a nice easy route this year.
  7. the problem with this question is that people will often rate the brand of bike that they own even if another is better. its unconscious bias. bikes are expensive and you'll be living with it for a while. you really need to get on the different bikes if possible. even then it will not help fully as it takes a while to get used to the geometry of a bike, so you'll feel most comfortable on something similar to what you came from, even if its not the best bike. on that note, i ride a scott. best bike you can get. go for it, no question - you dont even need to test ride it
  8. sometimes the sludge gets stuck in the valve. move it to 4 o'clock or 6 o'clock and try pump. also when i fist got a conversion the shop had some funny metal thing in the valve. had to take the tyre off, remove the metal thingy, put more slime in the tyre. not sure if it needs the metal thingy, but i haven't missed it in about 1000km and it pumps fine now.
  9. Johan' date=' I stay in Fish Hoek and I have never heard of Circle Cycles. Where about is this shop? and who owns it? [/quote'] You stay in Fish Hoek??? when did you retire??
  10. circle cycles are really good with good coffee for shoppers and passing cyclists. (they've got a few tables and chairs) at the end of fish hoek rd, on the circle, next to the kayak shop. got my mtb back today after a service and they even cleaned and polished the bike up for me. parking behind the 7 eleven and around the corner. prob 30 seconds walk away. highly recomend it.
  11. when you've testwed it out let us know what it like. i'm looking for one for my xc bike.
  12. just make sure you are wearing gloves or that the bomb canister has a cover on when you use it, otherwise it'll freeze your hand.
  13. got to second Hill 2 hell (hill). what a monster having to carry the bikes throught the mud/clay of that f#@%ing valley. i was totally broke after that, then still had 80km left to do. not sure how hard it is when its dry.
  14. i tested the spare on epic. just a short ride, but it was a seriously sweet bike. the mechanics said it would be called a Volcan but was basically a cervelo. took me months to get that out of my head. best hardtail i've ever been on.
  15. for those of you in the cape, maybe try out weslake cycle lab. i usually use another bike shop but being a student started shopping around for prices on some stuff i needed done. cycle lab wasn't the cheapest, but they were the cheaper than my usual bike shop; replied to my emails quickly and were close by, so i decided to give them a try. they gave great service. so well done to the guys at the westlake branch. maybe the other braches can take a leaf out of your book. they just got a new workshop manager, Phillipe. i had met him on epic and he really knows what he is doing and is a genuinly nice, laid back guy that will listen to what you want done.
  16. there were a few km of mud in the first 25km that took over an hour to carry the bike through. not fun. had problems shifting and getting the cleats in after that. would love to ride it when dry. does anyone know if its standard practise to calculate your overall time from when the first group goes off even if your group only starts 20 min later? not sure how fair this is.
  17. i wonder if you can get an offroad version. (try take it down some singletrack in tokai)
  18. just for the cedarberg challenge in october. same company that runs the cape epic - grandstand management.
  19. how about one along Rhodes drive. that has to be the smallest bicycle lane ever. the yellow line is painted in the edge of the road.
  20. allenkey bolt is more aerodynamic
  21. hey if you just take the time to look around you can find a decent ds. i'm a student so i have to make my money really work for me otherwise i won't have enough for bear six times a week. (detox on the last day of the week). i picked up a scott genius mc30 (3 years old) for R5500. full shimano xt, tubless conversion etc, hardly used, and i'm loving it. and this isn't a one off thing, i see deals like this come through every month or two.
  22. anyone keen to ride in tokai in the mornings or early afternoon this week. not too fit at the moment so just taking it easy.
  23. ridden the giant and it is an awsum bike. rode along with a mechanic on epic and he says that the gt's have been giving problems.
  24. crap organisation at water tables this year and crap food or no food. last years food organiser was fired because she was only concentrating on the food section and neglecting her other duties (but we had brilliant food). this year they tried to cut costs and look at all the unhappy people.
